    I love how Angela is always religiously oblivious. She didn't focus on Michael's very obvious plea for help, she instead chose to focus on him saying Jan was the devil.

I'm in Hell!" which is Michael and Jan (poorly) subtly voicing grievances with each other while upholding a scene of civility to their guests. Michael is clearly trying to tell the others "I'm unhappy, please help me" without saying it, and making it seem like he's just playing along with Jan. If any of that seems inaccurate to you, please tell me how you observed this scene. Because I can't really think of any other way this could be taken.

    0:30 Angela Kinsey is very underrated... You can see in the clip (and in most bloopers) that she couldn't control her laugh 90% of the times... Still, she had to play a cold shrew... I don't know how she pulled that off

      Rainn Wilson talked about it in an interview, he said it was scripted so that they show that Jim and Dwight are not in that friendly relationship yet, and he mentioned that it was one of his favorite moments of the show.

      I think it was more so shock bc he was only supposed to hit the ball while Dwight slowly went down as it “deflated” but instead popped it and Dwight immediately hit the ground. You can even see him jump back as soon as it pops

      Most of them are scripted. Jenna and Angela describe that the script is usually well written and detailed. Even the unexpected ones. Stuff like Jim picking up Pam and her shirt coming up in the karate match even the shirt coming up was scripted.

    I still think that Melora Hardin's performance as Jan was much above excellent. Her screen presence was absolutely magical. The way she carried herself, her expressions, her speech - everything was flawless. They should have let her character stay regular in the later seasons too. Brilliant actress ❤❤

    I love that Steve Carell had no idea that the cast was going to sing to him but I just realize that since Steve also improvised the kiss between him and Oscar in that early season that that line Oscar sings “I forgive you for kissing me” can actually be from actor to actor and not just from Michael to Oscar, that’s so funny!

    Steve is a master of improv - his cues to allow for his partner to understand his setup and where to go. The kiss with Oscar for instance. Steve sets it all up with “I’m gonna take this up a notch” - this allows his partner to expect something unexpected and to not show any reaction or tense up in response. The kiss improv is not only naturally hysterical but masterfully crafted on the fly

      That would have been a logistical nightmare. Having to figure out all the camera set ups on the fly and not knowing when would be the best time to shoot certain scenes and if they could stay on any type of schedule. Not to mention the person in charge of continuity would just die from everything they'd have to keep track of. Sounds like a fun idea but it would never work practically

      improvisation doesn't mean it's been filmed in one shot. they still might have taken a hundred shots and selected the best one. except for maybe the inflated ball since they didn't have spare props if they didn't expect Jim to break it. and in that scene you can hear muffled laugh and smiles.

      @@JacktheRah fun fact, michael only had 2 lines because then he'd have to get credited, the writers didn't want NBC to ruin the surprise so they did everything they could to hide that michaels in the episode (such as make fake scenes to show the producers just to slip the real episode in last minute so no advertising could be done). not even the cast knew michael was coming back until the shooting day. it makes the scene really heart warming knowing how much effort went into hiding it!

    One would not be mistaken to think that the whole series is an improv. That's how everyone was involved in their characters. This is one of those shows which has started a new era in sitcoms. Every character just makes you feel like a human being. You never feel out of touch with any moment in the series.

    The exercise ball was written to be stabbed, and it did on many takes but it deflated slowly. This was the last take and it popped and deflated so quickly that John Krasinski said that that was the hardest he'd ever seen someone hit the ground. You can see (and hear) john exhale and jump out of frame in surprise at how fast Rainn hit the floor.

      yeah I wasn’t buying the exercise ball stab as improv, it was so easy to see coming that there was no way the scene wasn’t deliberately leading up to it. thanks for this comment, I almost stopped watching because I thought this video was bs.

      If you just stab it straight in, it will deflate slowly. If you stab and rip at the same time, it loses all the air instantly with someone on it.

    After Jim pops the orb for a second you can see Stanley looking utterly shocked, I think that's why they zoom in so fast because the actor genuinely didn't know what to do or what was going on.

      Evidently in rehearsal, the orb was supposed to slowly deflate and Dwight gradually sinks out of sight. In this take, the scissors hit a seam and and down he went!
