But why would Klay be disappointed? I mean, despite his significant injury in 2019, GSW showed faith in him by offering him a five-year, $190 million max contract, even though they knew he couldn't play a whole season the following year and had no assurance he'd be the same again. It turned out he got injured again the following year and missed another whole season, not playing for two seasons, yet the team still respected him and offered their support.To be fair, Klay doesn't necessarily deserve a max contract right now. I mean, he deserves it because he's part of the core, but how he played last season was clearly a sign not to give him the max at this time. He knows it, and the team knows it-they are the most expensive team in the NBA, yet they didn't make it to the playoffs, which is absurd. The team needs more help in scoring, and they need more cap space to do it. The team supported him during his downfall, and now they need him to accept that this is the reality-they're struggling, he's struggling, and he's not the same anymore due to that worst injury of his.If I were the GM, I would also think twice-unless they don't want to win another championship. Klay's options depend on what his priorities are and how he views it at this moment. Would he accept whatever GSW offers him because he wants another championship, another shot at glory, and is willing to take a step backward for the team? Or does he want to earn more, in which case another team would undoubtedly love his services and would likely offer him the max.

The Lakers have $41,083,397 in 1st Apron Space (SOFT CAP), and $51,882,397 in 2nd Apron Space (HARD CAP) and that's WITHOUT LeBron on the roster right now. If they add PG, they'll have to move Rui and Russell as well

Yep, biggest money on the table was with Golden State, and he declined it. It's about principle for him. He doesn't want to be the 4th highest paid guy on this roster where Wiggins and Green are making more. So he says he's done with the Warriors. He's going to make less money and get less term (probably a 2 year, $36 million deal), but he gets to stick it to Mike Dunleavy Jr and Joe Lacob.

For people who dont know, they were trying to do another D'Angelo Russell. They signed Russell back then and used him as a chip to get Wiggins from the TWolves. They were hoping a team would be desperate enough to get CP3 for maybe some picks or better players. No one bought it for their price. Options when they're declined, they don't count against the cap. But Chris Paul is over 35, teams can waive over 35 year olds with no cap penalty.

Don't be surprised when the Warriors sign Chris Paul as an unrestricted free agent at a much lower cap hit for a year or two. Golden State and Paul were both aware that the team would utilize their ability to waive Paul and avoid the cap penalty for doing so, they attempted to trade him in the past week and it didn't work out. But this was the expectation of Paul and the Warriors since the Warriors need cap flexibility. When the Warriors traded for Chris Paul for Jordan Poole, Chris Paul knew this was on the table.
Without Klay now, expect Podz to take that leap for Golden St. Curry is gonna have a 2021 type of season next year. Green stays out of trouble.
