    The thing is we can call people "white boy" in America and no one gets offended because being white has never been an insult in America. Its never been a bad thing. In fact for entire generations it was a status symbol. Where as calling someone black or several other ways to describe a black person was used to demean and undermine entire neighborhoods of human beings for decades. Its not about the words, its about the history and general feelings behind them. Also no one really freaks out when you describe someone as "that black guy" . That wouldn't even be a big deal.

      bond james I just think its still prejudice. Making the "white boy" look as if he hates any other people but white when he definitely does not. im white and completely un prejudiced. Honest. I was raised in a wonderful town that actually believed everyone was equal and I love the way I was raised. i even raised my 3 girls basically there is no "color" on a person. it is just that everyone has more or less suntan. This is what I told them as children. So they never ever saw any difference!! And I am so very proud of them because I have 5 grandchildren who actually dont even know there is ANY difference between anyone except maybe what country the persons family came from, but just historically. Because if we meet people from different countries we can just learn so much more than a history book teaches. I know this sounds weird but I honestly learned this when I went to college! There were many students from overseas and it was fantastic to just listen to how each of us grew up. No prejudice!! Just learning. It was fantastic.

    As a person growing up in downtown Los Angeles, being the one of less than 20 white people in my entire school I was constantly attacked and called whit bitch, little white girl. I was punched, I was called horrid names without provocation. I was smacked, abused, I had my things destroyed all while Mexican girls would laugh and throw food at me. I had done zero to them. I understood that they were afraid of something different. It all changed when I was walking home one day and had a group of the Mexican girls that abused me the most and called me "little white bitch" tried to follow me home to beat me. Racism is racism. White people can be put in a direct assult of predjudice as well as any other race, and to be clear I condemn all forms of racism. I just really thought that Stephen devalued an entire people in this segment. Not all white people are racist. Not all different types of cultures want to harm you, it is the fear that makes us ignorant. Stephen, do not perpetuate fear, as with fear you perpetuate ignorance.

      I didn't know there were black schools with so little white people in LA lol The reason why they picked on you is not because of fear, but because of anger and hate because white people aren't the kindest of people to other races historically. However this doesn't justify the bullying. As saying goes, the son should not bear the responsibilities for the sins of the father, unless he a bitch too. kek And really that Bo Bice guy is a whiny little bitch that needs to get over himself. Just as bad as you had it in school, Latinos and Black people will always be looked at in a different way in the US. Let the past remain in the past, forgive and forget, and just a better person, without needing to tell everyone about it of course, then people will think you just want attention

      The point is, is that generally white people aren't systemically oppressed and profiled to the point of fearing any interaction with somebody of authority, so its become a sensitive topic for minority communities. So when a black girl says "that white guy" it's much more likely that she just used it as a harmless term of identification and be seen as that way, but if a white person says "that black guy" in the same situation, it's much more racially charged.
      As for your situation, it's hard to say since kids can be really mean sometimes, and generally they will pick on anybody who stands out in anyway. If you are a minority (even as a white person amongst a black/mexican school), they will most likely use that.

    So, I've been in Bo's shoes, it's rude, it sucks, it ruins your afternoon. You know what I didn't do? Play the victim and throw a tantrum! You know why? Because I have better things to do than try to look like a victim when at worst I had my feelings hurt in a one off incident. Come back once it happens every day, then you'll have a good case.

    The whole Bo Bice thing is fucking hilarious...mostly because he's a grown ass man crying about it on TV. But in his defense I'd probably get berated, fired, and then called a racist if I was at work and called a customer "that black girl" audibly enough for her to hear it. But I think it is mostly just good manners and common sense that you dont go calling people a name based on what ever physical feature catches your eye first like a child would.

    Caucasian is the politically correct term. I don't call grown African american men "that black boy over there" in front of them while describing them to other people and if Bo Bice did that people probably would make it a racial issue on twitter and facebook, though to a lesser extent..
    On the other hand it is our responsibility to reasonably voice our concerns without creating conflict and complaining that the misguided are wrong for words without malice, and Bo should definitely have handled it better.

    • @isaac4580
      @isaac4580 Před 7 lety

      ekelo ekete I can tell you don't live in a diverse area cuz if you did, you'd know a lot of poc refer to each other as "boy," even to say "he's my boy," as in friend. Yes, it could have been derogatory. It could also have just been the way they talk. It depends on the context, here it was two black girls getting the order to its proper place.
      Also, what happened to being against political correctness? I thought you people were above getting upset over one word.

    • @axeltenveils6816
      @axeltenveils6816 Před 7 lety +3

      Lp Alcantara Well... it isn't right to call people like that. For example I am fat, would it be okay for people to refer to me as that fat guy? I am also saying it is bad if they call you Asian boy, since it implies you have no other characteristic that stands out, therefore nothing else matters. Between me and my friends we use the worst curses to call each other by, yet they never call me fat as that would be maybe hurtful. Did any of that make sense?

    • @Borderlines
      @Borderlines Před 7 lety +2

      I see, I think I get it now. I've just gotten so used to the idea of being referred to my race when being distinguished from a crowd since i thought it was easier for someone i don't know to point where I am (like in a party for example). But yea I guess I would feel better if people say "the guy in the blue shirt" or something in cases like that yea.
      Thanks.

    • @EnergyKnife
      @EnergyKnife Před 7 lety +12

      Lp Alcantara Honestly it's not that big of a deal. Only issue I can see someone taking offense at is him being called "boy" because of the connotations of immaturity, and that might have become news if the guy was black because of some racial meanings in the past. "White guy" would have played better with him, but again from what's shown it does seem like a major overreaction.

    • @StraightOuttaJarhois
      @StraightOuttaJarhois Před 7 lety +8

      He was probably just shocked because us white people tend to be considered the norm. When we're described, our race is hardly ever brought up, unlike people of other races. It's not so strange that it would be upsetting to experience it for the first time as an adult. I've never had it happen to me, so who knows how I'd react. Crying about it on TV may be a bit much, though.
