Stephen made a very obvious but salient point there regarding Paul Ryan's criticism of the ACA - that IS exactly how insurance of any kind works. Your premiums go towards paying for those that get sick and need healthcare and others' premiums will go towards paying for you should you need it. It's also how government funds work. Taxation pays for public buildings, schools, hospitals, roads, bridges etc. No one will use every road, bridge, public building etc that their tax dollar goes towards paying for.

Privatly founded healthcare DOES NOT WORK. Your very country is live example of it. Literally every single fucking nation, be it a middleeastern shithole, a south american communist dictatorship, or a first world country agrees, that healthcare is a social issue best handled by the government, on tax money.
It's interesting though, when you actually look into these things and find that our lack of meaningful government involvement has resulted in us paying around 2x more for the exact same medications as most of the rest of the West. Maybe you enjoy the freedom to get price gouged, but I don't.

Stephen made a very obvious but salient point there regarding Paul Ryan's criticism of the ACA - that IS exactly how insurance of any kind works. Your premiums go towards paying for those that get sick and need healthcare and others' premiums will go towards paying for you should you need it. It's also how government funds work. Taxation pays for public buildings, schools, hospitals, roads, bridges etc. No one will use every road, bridge, public building etc that their tax dollar goes towards paying for.
Us Australians don't mind a few of our tax dollars going towards protecting everyone's health- including our own. Forever greatful for Medicare. Can't imagine living in the U.S where you have to pay for education and health. What kind of sad life
