    I might be bias but all the Nordic version bit Frozen songs n another level! Probably because it’s a bit more personal to us. Despite it being placed in Norwegian, all Nordic countries are so connected, Frozen could be a representation for all of us! And even though we might not have the same magic that occurs in the movie, I recognise a lot of elements from old folklore and social constructs of old Nordic traditions. It’s amazing! I don’t think foreigners can feel this overwhelming feeling of recognition!

    Lots of Swedes in the comments here don't like the lyrics, that's valid. I'm Swedish and I'm very impressed with them. There are one or two awkward bits/some things that with tweaking would sound even more natural but overall, great. It helps that it's lovingly sung. I like the desperate push and pull in her voice. I thought that in the English version, the high notes were drowned out by the instrumentals, so I like that all the vocals are clear in this version. The Swedish lyrics for Show Yourself are my faves, though.

      It's always a problem translating something from another language that has been made for a certain rhythm. Like you, I agree there's only one or two things that are kinda awkward, lyrics-wise. I'm not entirely sure why they went with "in i EN NY värld" instead of "in i okänt land"
      Would've flowed better, and fit the original lyric better.

      Nej, nej. Speciellt svenska.

    Why is it "For a new world" at 1:14 but at 2:10 it's "Into a new world"? The right translation is "into a new world" because "For a new world" is translated to "För en ny värld." Which she never sings.
    And for everyone who says it's a bad translation of the song: The words must be in the same tone and pace as the song, also the mouth must seem like it actually sings those words and not the english words it was animated for.
    Into the unknown is translated to: In i det okända. Which does not fit for the melody nor would be good to sing because okända doesn't flow like unknown.

    • @emeliec1945
      @emeliec1945 Před 4 lety +1

      The answer to your question is in the preceding line: "Jag är rädd för det som händer om mitt hjärta styr / in i en ny värld" has been translated to "I'm afraid of what could happen if my heart headed / for a new world"
      so it's not "for a new world" but "HEADED FOR a new world"!

    • @HTTYDandMore
      @HTTYDandMore Před 4 lety +4

      @@emeliec1945 Okay, it's just that "Jag är rädd för vad som händer om mitt hjärta styr" can also be translated to "I'm afraid of what happen if my heart guides me" which I think is more fitting for the next line. Anyway, styr means different things for different scenarios so it can be translated however it fits. And here it can be translated in two different ways.

    • @TheOnlyToblin
      @TheOnlyToblin Před 2 lety

      I think it would've been more "accurate" the original lyric, and still flowed, if they went with "in i okänt land". Sure, "land" is technically not "world", but we would still use it that way, especially in song and poetry.

Even extra syllables situation occurred just once or twice, not a big deal.

    • @um8650
      @um8650 Před 4 lety +1

      @@anoren Okay so some of these might be a bit nitpicky, but I did my best to figure out everything that bothered me specifically about the sentence structures and word choices.
      "Det finns all anledning till att ignorera dig tills din sång försvinner."
      Here the "till" after anledning is very out of place. As far as I know, it's grammatically incorrect, but I can't be entirely sure. In any case, when saying something like "Det finns anledning" followed by the verb in its base form (att ignorera) you don't use "till" before the word. It's like saying "There is reason for to ignore you". And imo the "till" becomes even more out of place when it's followed by "tills"... I'm guessing they wrote it this way because there weren't enough syllables otherwise, but it just sounds so wrong.
      I think this part is also a bit weird because of how this sentence is split up and then followed by "sluta upp att plåga mig. It sounds pretty off with the music, as if "tills din sång försvinner sluta upp att plåga mig" is supposed to be a sentence...
      "Jag är upptagen, hursomhelst, med en helt annan mission."
      I think this is weird to me because "mission" is pretty rarely used in this way. Usually the english word "mission" would be translated into uppdrag. I have never heard mission in Swedish used as anything other than spreading religion, which I don't think is what Elsa is busy doing...
      "Här finns allt jag älskar, alla som min själ berört. "
      The second part of this sentence really throws me off. She's saying "everybody who my soul has touched", so it really just sounds like her soul has touched these people and not the other way around, which is weird. They probably mean for it to be understood as everybody who has touched her soul, but it takes some thinking to understand that when you first hear the song. Technically??? I guess they could write it like that. I'm not even entirely sure though.
      Also berört and störd barely rhyme :P
      Anyway, these aren't a lot of things, but I hope they made sense. When it comes to weird word choices I think let it go actually had more ("förkastar direktivt" is just wtf). Something I think they both have in common though, is that a lot of the time it doesn't sound like something an actual person would say, even if the sentences are correct.

      Wow, thank you so much for such a long explaining. I didn’t even notice most of the things you mentioned, especially the “till” case. Swedish is a difficult language to translate songs to. More or less strict word order but long words needed to be conjugated or declined plus the first syllable stress make it really tiresome.
