Man,watching Jimmy from 80 to 85 is really difficult...He was at his worst around this time...Severe heroin addiction, losing his dear friend Bonzo and disbanding of Zeppelin...Difficult times! In all of his ARMS concert footage he seems like he's trying to get lost in music...in an interview he said he didn't pick up a guitar for 18 months after Bonzo because he was too scared, and when he did he couldn't even change chords properly. So yeah,he's definitely struggling here, but it is part of his ups and downs as a musician, and we all know he is a damn extraordinary one!I'm really happy he got better after that time and found himself again. That's one of the reasons I love him so much! You Rock Jimmy, always and forever!😍

I knew who Jeff Beck was in the late 1960s, but didn't notice him much until about two weeks ago. He's a beast, but the most striking thing to me is that he looks like he's aged about 15 years since he played with the Yardbirds and most of the musicians from that era (who are still alive) look old enough to to be at least his father. He must have a self-portrait in his attic that looks like ABSOLUTE DEATH!

Strangely, he didn't; in a 2010 interview he did for Mojo magazine to publicize his 18th studio album, Clapton, he said to the interviewers that he always disliked his singing voice since it was like that of a 16-year-old boy in Surbiton, while in actuality he was trying his best to imitate Ray Charles, saying that "Papa Ray" does it the way it needs to be done. Clapton prefers to be remembered for his guitar playing, which can never be denied.

They all grew up in the same place (Hell, Page and Beck were friends from their teenage years), they played similar styles of music, and all started in the same band. Yet they all act completely different on stage. Eric is focused on singing, as well as playing, and is relaxed, Jeff is rigid and almost unmoving aside from his hands and swaying, and Jimmy is an animal, getting his whole body into it. And they'll all amazing.

A really brilliant concert with more well-known talented musicians than I can list off the top of my head, but I still have the program, if you need to know, than I suppose I could look it up. I was seated on the left hand side, quite close to the players, but a bit behind the stage, unusually & the acoustics were excellent. For me the trio of lead guitarists Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton & Jeff Beck were the most delightful thing, because I owned then (still do) a rare cassette of the three of them playing without any vocals etc., that I'd been listening to & that made it super to see them, live! It was a charity event, actually for Ronnie Lane & MS, as I recall.

Truly loving someone so much it's never ending, but you two never can get permanently together, so it just keeps twisting your heart out. Month's, to year's, to decades, but it never goes away. It just keeps twisting. Crazy thing called love.

Eric Clapton was 100% totally clean of drugs and booze during the entire ARMS tour. The ARMS tour was Clapton's first major return to the stage after his treatment for alcoholism at Hazelton in 1980 during the "Another Ticket" tour. However, during the sessions for his next studio album that followed the ARMS tour, "Behind The Sun" (which he recorded with Phil Collins), he relapsed and ended up fathering a child with the studio manager out of wedlock. But during this tour, he was clean as can be folks. Read his autobiography. He is not one to B.S. people. Jimmy on the other hand.....see my previous post.

Since this was likely an "All-Star" event, with a final onstage Jam for all, I suppose that it's possible that the drummer (who I didn't recognize) was not incredibly familiar with the song (at least not the last part). Although I am a musician and can (if I "scrape" all of the dust off!) remember the particular terms, this one I can't. What I CAN say is the drum part at the end needed the snare to be "double-timed" as opposed to the part he played - snare lick twice as often as he played it. I felt that it made that part drag a bit instead of pushing it, and did not lend itself to some of the dynamic aspects that needed to be there. Also, not knowing why the mix was the way it was, both Beck's and Page's leads were mostly inaudible.
