I’m a psych RN and also an addiction/ detox facility. So I have been around Opiates and Dopamine for years. I was so amazed to find out that it is not the Dopamine but the Craving for it that are addictive. Then Adrenaline arrives on the scene and that gives so much energy and drive and excitement

How does someone teach or learn the skills of self-regulation?

For me, it's being able to get away from the 'noise'; whether that's other people (especially the agitators), city noises, etc so I can calm down & relax my mind to new solutions or ideas.
One of my favorites has been getting out to nature. Go for a walk, ride a bike, just sit and soak up the feel of the sun and nature's sounds. Commune with God! If Jesus made the time for that, why would I be any different?

My mom, and more recently I, have been teaching people about emotional trauma and harnessing that energy from the trauma towards a more productive lifestyle since 2004. Now we don't have the marketing these folks have, but I'm always shocked to see things we've been doing with our work eventually show up in videos.
Needless to say, this all is extremely difficult work and requires utmost amount of discipline to overcome.

@tehguybro wish I had a cool mom like that. Wondering if you could recommend a good book to help guide someone like that?

Thank you for such an interesting video. And I have one question, maybe someone can help me. Andrew said we're the only species that has neuroplasticity. When I hear "we're the only species that..." I always think about learning that we're the only species that uses tools (false) or has self-awareness (false) or that enjoys beauty (false). So I wonder: was Andrew speaking from an evidence base? Or was that just an assumption? Thank you.

Has anyone ever thought of the things that affect more than one or two generations ahead. It's not impossible they are just big picture issue that will occur barring any huge external influence. If we look to the past we don't usually think far ahead, it's why we are in the mess that we are now. There's a very high chance that there won't be any great changes and most of us will blindly go with the flow.

Limbic aspects of ourselves? Please define this. 1:07

This is the actual anatomica, physical structure in the brain called The Limbic System. This structure controls the " fight or flight" instinct. The flight or fight instinct gets triggered in emergencies. This is a part of the brain that has been using fight or flight fear reaction that originated thousands of years ago and we now have many ways to be safe in emergencies but the Fight or Flight response is still functioning.

I like Respire videos with Andrew Huberman, but this one is a dud. Repetitive information and nothing concrete to follow, just blah-blah

Spot on assessment. Not an accurate title at all and it repeats without suggesting anything actionable.

Where is the talk about focus and concentration here? Totally misleading title to attract viewers. Please, do not waste our time. Thumbs down.
