Super Mario: Nintendo’s flagship franchise and the undisputed king of video game nostalgia. I loved Mario growing up! And when Nintendo re-released 3 of Mario’s biggest games in “Super Mario 3D Allstars” earlier this year, it sent me on a huge nostalgia trip! I just want to randomly point out that I find it funny that Mario is constantly shown to be serious and angry in the Super Smash Bros series yet in his home series, he's a happy go lucky and cheerful man.

It's so strange to hear someone who is very near my age talk about his dad playing a video game for fun.
My mom pretty much grew up outside the influence of video games and thought they were the devil until recently. The only time I've ever bonded with my dad over video games was when he told me about being the best Centipede player at his college. I got him an Atari collection to play, and I only ever saw him blast through Centipede and occasionally Missile Command.
Same, neither of my parents really understand video games but my dad loves Space Invaders because he played a ton of it when it was new. I've tried weaning him onto other games but he just doesn't get it lol. Only success I've had is the archery in Wii Sports Resort and the pong-like game in Wii Play.
My mom only plays bubble bobble and my dad only plays street fighter and Dr mario
Im 23 and some of my earliest memories are of watching my mom play spyro the dragon and my dad and I talked about the new Assassin's creed game yesterday. It really just depends on the parents

25 years ago during the development of sm64 an idea to let the user bully mario and permanently disfigure and scar his face was made. WHAT WAS THE DEVELOPMENT TEAM THINKING.

Amusingly I recently discovered something that might've inspired the idea. A little bit ago Nintendo added a game called Mario's Super Picross to Switch's SNES library. In the very end of the game there were some special/secret levels that you could only access by clicking certain spots in the game's starting screen that featured Mario's and later Wario's faces: one level in one of Mario's eyes, a level in both of Wario's eyes and finally one even in Wario's nose. I'm pretty sure the cursor was even in the same hand shape as later in that SM64's starting screen, so maybe the devs were left thinking how funny it would've been if clicking the faces would've caused some cosmetic changes to them, which then lead to that bizzarre starting screen of SM64.
And our age gap hits just when you said sunshine was the game you played when you were 6 since I played galaxy at that age

I think we can all agree that out of all the Mario games, the Galaxy ones have the best soundtracks. Hands down

I feel like the SNES games had good soundtracks, or maybe that's just me being nostalgic, but Galaxy 1 & 2 had a beautiful OST and is definitely the best in the franchise.

I used to play Sonic Rush all the time as kid, and seeing this just brought back so much nostalgia.
Mario is also a massive part of my childhood. When i was 4 i had a ds and a wii. I remember playing new super mario bros. wii for hours with my dad and twin brother. then i got a wii u. i beat the entire of 3d world with luigi and toad (most the beaten levels with toad being my twin brother). Mario hits diffrerent

As one of the very few people who actually bought a Wii U, 3D World was my favorite Mario game growing up. I loved how Peach and Toad were playable, Each level is a joy to play, The Soundtrack was epic, and The Super Bell has become my Favorite Mario Power Up. And of course, I am more than happy that 3D World is getting a Switch Port and a New Mode. I just hope we get new characters like Yoshi and Daisy.

For Super Mario Sunshine I was too young to even exsist when it came out. But my dad played it when he was younger, and he never beat it. And because my dad played Mario his whole life, I was also grew up with Mario. So, when All Stars came out, me and my dad both competed to fully complete all three games. And my dad warned me Sunshine was hard, so when we finished Mario 64. We agreed that Sunshine was gonna be harder. And I was getting the hang of Sunshine, and I beat my dad. So I helped him beat it. And it was the highlight of my life when he finally beat it. And Galaxy was brilliant, I still had my Wii, so when I beat Galaxy I played the second one. Anyway, in conclusion never give up kids.
I see a lot of value in Super Mario 3D All-Stars. It gives me a chance to play the games I missed out on (I'm only 14). I'm just exciting to play these amazing games.

I'm 14, and before 3d all stars even was announced I had already played most of mario 64 on my older brother's n64, a bit of mario galaxy on the wii and some of mario sunshine on emulators.

I was exposed to mario first, i never really liked it but when i got on my uncles xbox and saw skyrim at the ripe age of 4 i actually really liked it. but i also found sonic 2 on a family computer on some sketchy website and i fell in love with the speed of sonic and flight of tails. i've just been attached to the series since, am i good? no of course not im actually kinda dog crap but i still like mario but also sonic a bit more. the characters also stand out more to me than mario, i rarely forget a character because they have so much personality that does get soiled later but i still don't forget them, compared to mario with very little character personality other than daisy who i'd die for.
I like sonic But Mario is my favorite series. In my opinion sonic compared to Mario is hilarious.
I always liked Mario and Sonic,but I was always a bigger fan of the Donkey Kong games over these(Not the arcade ones)it's a shame Donkey Kong is irrelevant now.

3D Land is so underrated. It’s the first 3D Mario I played from start to finish, and encouraged me to check out fantastic games like Odyssey and Galaxy. Yes it’s incredibly linear, but I think that it does what it does perfectly.

It's not exactly a "confession" of mine, but honestly, thanks to Super Mario Galaxy, I've been inspired to study astronomy. It's just that, Super Mario Galaxy holds a very, very special place in my heart, and it'll always be in that special place. It was one of the first videogames I played, and it introduced me to my most favorite videogame character so far (Rosalina); and the fact that it's in SPACE, just makes the whole game concept a lot more interesting and unique. Super Mario 3D World is also very special to me, it's just a super fun multiplayer Mario game, and the cat superpower is just so unique along with the cherry power. That's what makes Mario games so special and memorable, the way how Nintendo is unique with each game.
I feel like this is so long, but I just wanted to share my opinion haha

The Mario game I had as a kid and never finished. Was Mario and Luigi: Bowser's inside story. It was a DS game, my brother and I fought over it, and it was weird. But I remember having a blast with it.

Personally SMG is my 4th favorite game of all time. I remember when i was younger being amazed at all the unique and memorable ideas and jumping around the hub. I remember when i was even younger i couldnt even read English at that point and thought every galaxy only had 1 star so i got stuck and restarted the game over and over to relive the tutorial galaxy.
Mario Galaxy was the Mario game I grew up on.. and it is probably in my top 10 games of all time because of that... However.. as I replayed it on the switch, I realized that similarly to what you said in the video.. I had only remembered the first few areas of the game, as well as nothing from the story book

I also got a Nintendo 3DS as well as Super Mario 3D Land and played it to death, I think I beat the game in almost a month, but I still go back and play it every so often.
When I saw him put up the screenshot of Kingdom Hearts 3, I started to cry because I literally just beat the game. Yay...

Super Mario Bros. Wii is my favorite Mario game I think, it's definitely the one carrying the most nostalgia because I was seven years-old when it released and me and my siblings played it to death. Mario64DS is my favorite 3D Mario game, though when I finish Galaxy that one may take that spot, it's definitely my favorite soundtrack.

Fun Fact: There are non-Mario games that you fill them with Marioness if you want.
3 of them that I know are Minecraft (although unless you have the Wii U/3DS/Switch versions you have to install modpacks to get the Marioness there), Garry's Mod (although you need to install addons to get the Marioness there) and Ai Dungeon (which you can make your very own Mario adventure there).
I also know GTA 5 but other than Installing a mod that lets you play as Mario I don't think you can Mariofy the whole thing.

I would agree if it was just its own game, but in the context of the 3 solid games that came before it, it was a massive letdown, and Nintendo doesn't seem interested in returning to the style of the original paper mario games, which is all fans are asking for.

@OctagonalSM64 it really isn't, it's an half-assed port. fans managed to get mario 64 to run on wide-screen up to 4K at 60fps in a few hours, nintendo didn't even do anything about it. NOT EVEN WIDESCREEN.
Now with sunshine they did the bare minimum and made it wide-screen, something which need I remind you modders did several years back. oh, and nintendo didn't even fix the problem which has been known and fixed FOR YEARS now on free emulators (aka dolphin).
for another point, the 60$ price-tag is really too much, especially with the limited-edition of the game for physical versions... and digital versions too. if they included mario galaxy 2 than fine, but seriously? nintendo only priced it that way because they knew everyone will buy it anyways.
and to add insult to injury, this is their way to "celebrate" 35 years since the creation of their mascot, and the most known video-game character. they should've done something that isn't an incredibly lazy port of their games, I mean, their are using emulation for 64 and sunshine, and half using emulation for galaxy.
@OctagonalSM64 nobody leaked it tho, there were educated guesses and such, but that's about it, also that makes no sense, they wouldn't cancel a better game for no reason, they aren't THAT stupid.
P.S. even if that ever happened, that still doesn't make the "game" good.

Confession: I can't grow super attached to the Galaxy games either. I played 'em for the first time recently. They were just fine. Not great or amazing, just fine. Moreover, I also don't consider their soundtracks to be the best in the series. IMHO, that would be the Mario & Luigi soundtracks. Even for mainline Mario, I prefer other soundtracks, like Super Mario Odyssey.
Great, really fun video. Around 10 years ago I dug up my SNES and copy of Mario All Stars + World. Having played but never beaten World as a kid, I finally set to beat it. But the controller's D-Pad was jammed for going right. So if I wanted to run, I had to smash my thumb into it to use it. I beat the game in about a week, all the star road stuff, Super Player. But then had to go to the doctor because I had indented my thumb so bad. Had to ice it for several days until it healed. All for Mario.

I think the first Mario game I played is Super Mario 64 because this is the first game that I ever emulated on my PC (I used Project 64 and I still use it as my N64 emulator of choice), back in 2016-17-ish.
