I actually enjoyed the Shadow GameCube game, despite it's faults.
Though, I hear Shadow & Sonic Heroes were less glitchy on GameCube hardware then PS2 or XB, because they were developed for the Cube originally.

Did you know that for 06 and Secret Rings, the team was split up to make both games around the same time? This is most likely why both games came out the way they did which I agree, Secret Rings is much worse.
Secret Rings is one of the best Sonic games. I did sweat a lot while playing it, but that's not a bad thing.

@@pixeluka5809 I don't know why I put 2 on it(prob cause my other game at the time was new sup mario 2). The one with the 4 vehicles (jet ski, ship, hovercraft, sub) the races for the chaos emeralds, I think the Soul emeralds I think were in the missions, and you played as either sonic or blaze each game, with different mechanics each.

@@gooolixx maybe so, but from what I saw of its adds and the animation style, I just couldn't accept it. I could accept were-hogs, 06, Colors(only played like 20 min at friends house, fun), and general jank. But I have trouble accepting major character changes... Poor knuckles

When I was little (around the time I got the new SNES for Xmas) I actually had a CRUSH on Sonic (literally the only time I was ever attracted in any way to a cartoon). I had a custom air-brushed Sonic tee my artist uncle made, a bunch of little LCD Sonic games, but my pride & joy was my first ever collection, Sonic comic books. Mine were all from the 90s, and I was so obsessed, I had Sonic/Knuckles posters, I drew my own comics starring my fav character, Sally. I think I ended up with like 150 comic books before I had to sell the collection... 😪💔
I never truly recovered after playing Sonic Forces. I still have a reflex when I hear it and instantly enter a blind rage

Ever since Sonic Forces released I stopped being hyped for sonic games because I KNOW that the next game is gonna be shit-
When Sonic Colors Ultimate was announced I was just like: “…it’s gonna be glitchy.. isn’t it?” AND LOW AND BEHOLD IT WAS! Did anybody listen? NOPE! They were just TOO excited for it
Same with the Sonic Symphony, I just was like… eh, it’s okay- ..even tho the music was great, I was just like… it’s just another thing from sega-

Given my username and profile pic, I think where I stand with this maddening franchise is pretty clear lol. I'm turning 31 this year and have loved Sonic since the moment my mom showed me Sonic 1 way back on the original Genesis. I've got such a love-hate relationship with this franchise man. Even after playing Forces, which is my most hated Sonic game for reasons beyond the game play, whenever I see that dumb hedgehog running fast, it gets me right in the childhood and I'm back to loving him again.
I remember back in 2008 where my cousin will be playing sonic advanced on his Game Boy Advance (GBA) and will always call Eggman as 'Egghead'. I kept calling him that for the past two years before getting a Wii and Sonic Unleashed and was very confused when Sonic called him Eggman. I never finished Sonic Unleashed since the disc broke (while I was dumb kid) before I got to finish it but sometimes I'd like to relieve those moments of playing it. So I got Sonic Colours (The Original) and immediately liked it. I still play it today as it was the last sonic game I owned. Loved it then and Love it even more now. So yeah, I guess I'm also a Sonic Fan

Let's be honest. If they had the Chao garden in every 3D game they'd all be bangers
I am curious if it would change reception or not.
As I think that the Chao Garden isn't just a fun mini game, but also gives a more blatant reason for replaying levels. (You can't progress much in the Chao garden without going back through levels)

You know I was never a sonic fan until a few months ago but what got me into it was the Archie Sonic comic and I loved it because I am a sucker for world building and a large cast of characters. And while people may say that it's not accurate to the games, I say it's not supposed to it's an adaptation meaning it should tell a different story.
Since your a beginner. I recommend you check out the Japanese game manuals for the classic sonic games. They really craft out the lore and even showcase more story in the franchise
@@wolfenden9805I don't think the classic games are a good starting point because compared to modern games they're very challenging, I'd suggest Sonic Generations considering how accessable and easy to play it is.

I feel like Sonic Battle deserves more props than a Smash Clone. It has some really unique ideas and mechanics that I haven't seen an many other arena fighters circa 2003. The story mode was just painfully grind heavy. But being able to set adjust your load out per-stock, mechanics that incentivized you to try different combos and a broken special meter. I think it could've been a viable spinoff if it ever got sequels. I appreciate this vid, its nice to hear people not just shit on Sonic for 5 seconds.
The writing in that game was great tho tbh but I guess I could say that about any sonic game released around that time
Im gonna be honest, im a massive fan of 06. Even if its bad, I actually cherish it as my first sonic game. My favorite part is(dont laugh) the mach speed sections. Btw this isnt a joke I genuinly love this game

We can all agree that sonic will live on as one of the greatest characters in gaming history. My favourites are lost world, Colors, forces, and mania
Lost World was actually not bad at all, and extremely polished. It just felt like whiplash after Sonic Team figured out how boost gameplay should work in Generations
"Plays like a slip'n slide" is the absolute best description of Sonic 3D Blast.
I'm with you on Lost World. I find the visuals just so charming, I love the 3D worlds, I love the squash and stretch on his bounce.... it just works for me. I think it would have been better as a new I.P. that didn't have to try to tack on Sonic elements, and I think it would have been better received too. Hopefully, it'll eventually be reevaluated on its own merits.
The fact I was just watching the Sonic the hedgehog 2019 musical from Random Encounters before watching this
I like Sonic 06 for 3 reasons: 1, pure nostalgia. 2, the story is actually really interesting. Not Sonics storyline obviously but Silver and Shadows. 3, I like Silvers gameplay. I said it. (Also the music slaps but that's the case for literally all Sonic games. It's just particularly excellent in this one)

my most early-mid 00's memory is going into our local Blockbuster and being absolutely mesmerized by the trailer for Shadow the Hedgehog
My sonic fandom aligns with this so much, just shifted earlier. Instead if Shadow, I was into all the Genesis ones. Seemed like everyone hated 3D Blast and Spinball, and I loved them, especially 3D Blast. Sonic R was sort of the end of my Sonic obsessive phase and I loved it. The big arc in Archie Comics was Mecha Madness, Issue #25, and a few others.
But by the time Sonic Adventure came out, I had gotten obsessed with both JRPGs and Horror games, so I didn't continue. I finally more recently got Sonic Mania, and I've been thinking about revisiting some of the ones I missed. Especially the dreamcast ones.
EDIT: Also, fun fact, the brilliant minds behind Sonc 3D blast made Sonic R. Look into the GameHut youtube channel. He worked on both.

Personally, I love every Sonic game, however just recently I played Sonic Lost World on Wii U and Sonic Forces. Sonic Forces was just too short and Sonic Lost World on Wii U is my least favorite game of all time. The 3ds version on the other hand I actually like a lot. Even if the underwater controls are the worst controlling thing I've ever experienced.

I dont think that's how it works but I know barely anything about code
Think of it like locks. Everyone can learn how locks work, but you can't open a locked door without its unique key, or lockpicking skills proportional to the strength of the lock.
Similarly, the encryption mechanism is open source, but you can't crack a secure VPN connexion without serious computing power or social engineering.
The source code just tells you how the lock mechanism works and how strong it is. Indeed, it can let people study it to find potential security holes to exploit, but it can also let people propose solutions to fix them.
No, because encryption involves a series of processes to jumble up your info and randomly generated keys that only work for your stuff.

Gosh, I thought I was the only one. I never understood why I loved the bad sonic games even though I understood why people thought they were bad. as a Sonic fan who strangely has a very similar timeline to your experiences i can say that for certain what has kept me interested in and even full on brought me back into Sonic in recent years has been the characters. i dabble in writing fanfic and it is such a joy to take these characters with fairly established backgrounds/ personalities and dissect them or explore different scenarios/conversations with them. in the back of my mind is an ever present idea of if Movie Sonic ended up in any number of other Sonic universes (games, comics, cartoons) and how the corresponding Sonic of that universe would react to him. there are two things that Sonic has caused to be my favorite things, the first being the color blue, and the second being a preference for character/story driven media

1. Where it was Sonic for you, it was Zelda for me so this story is super relatable in that sense (and I'm not a fan of everyone's favourite Breath of the Wild *shrugs*).
2. No mention of Black Knight at all? But but but.. it was just like Secret Rings.. but tons better! And you have a sword! I haven't played that many Sonic titles, but I loved SatBK!

I can definitely relate to this dude. The first console Sonic game I brought and finished was Sonic Forces. I did have the Christian Whitehead ports of Sonic 1, 2 and CD.
Flickie's Island/3D is so fun when you look past the slippy physics.
Also Sonic Riders/Sonic Riders Zero Gravity are my favourite sonic games of all time.

my first sonic games were the secret of the rings and the black knight and i loved them, they made sonic like an rpg u could costumize ur abilities and i love classic stories like sinbad, aladin and the king arthur. I got hyped when they announced a more open world sonic game in the making.
My first sonic game was sonic adventure for the dreamcast and I still have fond memories with it, I’m just hoping that one day Sega releases a third sonic adventure game, hopefully.

10:31 Jon Burton made a ROM hack of this game a few years ago, called Sonic 3D: Director's Cut. I find it's quite good for anybody who likes the original game, such as yourself.

Nice surprise to see someone on CZcams like Sonic Genesis on GBA. Despite its problems, I still like it. It has its problems, but it was a novelty to play Sonic 1 on the go back in 2007, before the DS collection existed. I've always enjoyed the Sonic series, I like this video, it's refreshing to see someone just talking about their enjoyment for Sonic.

I got really into Sonic because of the movie, but hadn't played any games. so when i got a switch for christmas in 2020, one of the games i got was Sonic forces. And it was dope. It took me four days of non-stop playing to beat, and i genuinely had a ton of fun with it. i got Mania next, DUDE. THE HYPE IS REAL

1:30 not gonna knock on them for transparency, but having public code just makes it easier and more enticing for hackers and other malicious entities. Easier to crack a code that's in plain sight than one you have to first decipher.
