    What a wonderful model of the famous Bird dog...I'm waiting for a FW 190 to arrive, however watching your model flying I'm seriously looking at buying the Bird Dog later...Brings back a few memories of trying to fly a rubber powered model well over sixty years ago...l once lost..(almost)..a 2 metre glider because of a radio malfunction, it flew off into the sunset. l found it sometime later in a ploughed field. It had landed perfectly all by itself with just a few scratches on the fuselage covering...The joys of model flight...

      It's fun to build models that we built as youngsters isn't it? Did you see my build series on the Focke Wulf by the way czcams.com/video/d08SIMwEK8E/video.htmlsi=4bbP7Lo2kArHyruo 👍

    Awesome! Here is a flight tip. 1. If your model is climbing out try not to use down thrust but use right or left thrush to pull it out of the climb and in to a turn, then a little down if needed. Thank you for being apart of this contest.

      Thanks Doyle, you're right, as soon as the maximum thrust has dissipated a little it all settles down, cheers 👍

    We all love our radio gear, but there is something very special about a free flying rubber powerd model. Well done.

    Fantastic! I was waiting for this video! Your worst flight is still longer than my best! Great to see how you go about the trimming and the trial and error. 20 seconds might not sound like much, but for those of us who are trying this, it really means a lot! Thank you for sharing and posting!

    I remember flying small rubber models
    Thinking all the time
    "If only I could get the plane to trim while it was airborne
    I did not have RC back then
    Now that I do have RC
    I find my self drawn somewhat to FF & CL (just every now and then)

    Buenisimo cliff. Ese modelo es medio paresido al cessna hasta su vuelo. A mi gusto yo le cambiaria el perfil alar a uno mas lento con mas planeo

    • @CliffHarveyRCPlanes
      @CliffHarveyRCPlanes  Před 2 lety +1

      Gracias Alfredo, la vela es tan pequeña que no estoy seguro de que cambiar de sección suponga una gran diferencia para ser honesto. Pesa 44 g lista para volar. Volaría mucho más lento si fuera mucho más ligero, pero no estoy decepcionado, la diversión es el nombre del juego. 👍🙂

      It's a very nice build Bryan, mine's pretty heavy at 44g ready to fly but as you see you can still get reasonable results. This includes a few grams in the nose to balance so keep the tail as light as you can.

    Great flying! I’m lucky to get 8 seconds of flight, but single strand motor. How do you make the prop turn with a winding loop on the end?

    • @CliffHarveyRCPlanes
      @CliffHarveyRCPlanes  Před rokem

      Hi Indy, thanks, if your rubber motor runs for 8 seconds that's about all you'll get from a flight. The winding loop still has a 90 degree bend in it to engage with the prop. Did you see my 34 second flight on my Chipmunk earlier this year? czcams.com/video/wRA5fH5xa5Y/video.html, cheers.

  • @MORCOPOLO0817

    Might want to try two loops of 3/32 rubber. A stop watch might help as well.

    • @CliffHarveyRCPlanes
      @CliffHarveyRCPlanes  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks Morco, good idea, I have to order some more rubber now as I've just about used up my stock. The trouble with a stop watch is I can't launch and start it at the same time, it doesn't really matter how fast, or not, I count as it doesn't seem to affect the flight time 😁😁😁

  • @mahirwrobleski2797
    @mahirwrobleski2797 Před 2 lety

    Hi Cliff, in covering the Bird dog you said a wash of Acrylic paint, you mean applying by brush or Spraying, and what water thining ratio? and is it okay to substitute Lacquer (if not available )with Varnish or here weight accounts?

    • @CliffHarveyRCPlanes
      @CliffHarveyRCPlanes  Před 2 lety

      Hi Mahir, I applied the paint with a brush, it was pretty thin, just enough to colour it really. Weight does count, you're right, varnish sounds heavy. My advice is to make up a test square and cover it in tissue and try the different finishes to see how they effect each other 👍

      Hi DougieBob, I use lube from Mike Woodhouse free flight supplies in the uk but others use various lubes, Dow Corning 33 is one, if you Google 'rubber lubricant for model planes' you'll get a flood of information 👍 thanks for your comment 🙂
