    These echoes, to me, rienforce the idea that Bode's path very much mirrors Cal's. Survive the purge, trust no one, meet a woman who changes your path (Bode's wife for Bode, Cere Junda for Cal), and find something to fight for. Cal fights for freedom. Bode fights for his daughter.
    In Fallen Order, we saw a "dark future" section where Cal surrenders to the Empire in order to save younglings. While he was able to change his fate, Bode surrendered to the Empire in order to save a "youngling" (his daughter). Both Cal and Bode end up using the dark side, and teaming up with others to achieve their goals. The main difference is that Cal wants to fight, while Bode has no real desire to fight; he only wants Kata to be safe.
    When Cal fights him at the end of Survivor, he's essentially fighting a version of himself. Just a version that made a few different choices along the way.

      How I viewed survivor's plot was like this, both Dagan and Bode represent different conflicts Cal faces. On the one hand Dagan is absolutely swallowed by his "code" that being his drive to go to tanalorr and do whatever. On the other hand Bode is trying to incite Cal to purely hold onto those emotional connections regardless of oath's. I think that in the 3rd game were gonna see Cal learn to balance both his code and his emotions. Not truly giving into one or the other.

    • @alphamineron
      @alphamineron Pƙed rokem +14

      NO the main difference is that Cal is a Jedi and he never ever thought of sacrificing innocents to save his "younglings"... Even the Dark Cal we saw last game was better than Bode.

      Couldn't agree more. This games story was a masterpiece, and I genuinely felt for Bode and Kata both. The echoes show us Bode's intentions and thoughts about just wanting to keep his daughter safe, and then Kata singing Ghost Star was the icing on the cake. I didn't want to go fight this poor girl's misguided father. I had a feeling Bode wasn't going to make it, and I was very happy that Kata leaves with Cal. During my second playthrough, I realize when he was convincing Cal to get with Merrin ("Yeah, I hear Jedi swear off attachment"), he was manipulating Cal, not giving him advice. Easier to beat the man with fear of loss than a stoic with no attachments. Backfired, though, Cal's rage saved him in the end; he was capable of integrating his shadow, unlike the Jedi. Bode's mistake was assuming Cal was a Jedi, not an individuated force-user trained by Jedi.

When that happened, many Jedi were learning how to deal with fears and impulses that they have never experienced. So many Jedi got what was coming to them. Everything he did was for himself and his own pain and kata was just tool for it as much as everyone else.

      In all honesty I don't blame Bode for what he did. And if you really stop and think about it, all it would've took, was one Inquisitor to go undercover as a Jedi pretending to be fleeing from the Empire and being part of the Hidden Path. And that's all it would've took for the Empire to find the planet. He knew this, he knew that's all it would've taken for the Empire to find the planet. In a way it kind of goes back to why Cal decided to destroy that holocron in Fallen Order. He destroyed it because it be better not to gather them all in one place for the Empire to snatch them all, and to ensure they wouldn't be revealed to the Empire. With that logic what Cal was wanting was to unintentionally gathering all the Jedi survivors into one place for the Empire to come marching in. Because again all it takes is one Inquisitor or someone to go undercover for it to all go to hell.
      He was not going to take that chance or risk, not when his daughter's future was at state. He already lost his wife and had to spend years kissing the ass of some Imperial Higher Up just to keep their identities a secrete from Vader. Like hell he was going to let the Jedi fuck that up with the chances of anyone of them could be secretly working for the Empire.

A tragedy, not something evil and sinister. As we see from the databank coupled with the echoes, he shows hesitance, and even thinks of ways to get Cal on his side so he doesn't "have to" betray him. Obviously he's still at fault, but it's clearly showing his thought process. Not an evil cunning and manipulative individual but someone who is feeling like he's backed into the wall. If Cal brought the hidden path there and had an anti imperial movement there then that meant there was a slight chance people Bode didn’t personally know as well as Cal and his crew could slip up or betray them to the Empire and lead them to Tanalorr, meaning Kata is not truly fully safe there, for Bode it was all or nothing, either Kata is completely safe, or she isn’t, and that is why though he had his doubts, Bode went through with betraying Cal, he didn’t want to, I think he truly liked him, but he could not let there be even a small chance that Tanalorr could be found and Kata in danger, I’ll agree they could have made this more abundantly clear, but through all the lore, these echoes, and by trying my best to understand, I am absolutely sure this is what is true, and what the game meant to be portrayed

      that means putting your daughter into absolutely certain mortal danger right the f now instead of maybe, hypothetically in the future. i mean, if youre doing risk management then hes doing it all wrong, to the point where youd have to wonder at how he even ever made it that far. just left him at a weird place in terms of motivation at the very end for the same reason. blatantly risking her life right now out of fear that they might not be able to protect her later? that whole final stand made very little sense at that point. just my opinion, though.

    If they make a third installment I think it would be a pretty cool idea if the main villain was The Inquisitor that killed Kata's mother, let's see who it could be
    Definitely not the grand inquisitor
    Don't think it's the second sister
    Neither the third sister
    Not the fifth brother
    Or the sixth brother
    Nor the seventh sister
    Like hell it would be the eighth brother
    Ninth sister, nope
    Tenth brother, definitely not
    And the three unnamed inquisitors, two that were killed by Darth Vader and one that was insta-killed by ahsoka
    I think it might be the fourth sister
    What do you guys think?

      i think i would like for it to be the 4th sister too since we barely have any info on her
      or the two unknown inquisitors that vader killed are getting their own book soon and it would be neat if they fit that into the story somehow.... actually now that i think about it, the red chick already had a moment in the comics where she deliberately betrayed a mother trying to protect her force sensitive child and jedi husband, it would make sense to see her do it again lol imma say it was her (unfortunately then it couldnt be a villain in the next game tho lol)

    The Bode Character in Jedi survivor is nothing but a Snitch that needed to be put down no matter what after the decisions he made towards the mantis Crew. đŸ€·đŸŸâ€â™€
    The guy could have joined the team & figured out a way to get his daughter from the Empire then all escape to Tanalor together but instead he wanted to all turn into a "Fake Darksider" & betray everything in that manner.
    He is no Anakin Skywalker , nothing that he did against the Mantis Crew was just , acceptable or understanding in my eyes.
    I’m not even a Jedi fan but even I empathised with Cal Kestis plight here in this game because he didn’t deserve to get did dirty like that đŸ€ŠđŸŸâ€â™‚ïžâ›”ïž.

      Tbh I liked the twist because I totally expected it to be Dagan originally, and then that was that for the story after his death. What would be good now is if Cal / Kata find out who the Inquisitor that killed Bogan's wife is in the next game.

      Theyre both Ă ssholes, both deserving to get slapped silly with little regard for their whys and wheres.
      Selfish assholes who went on to betray and murder or cause murder for their own distorted ends, just like anakin. Handing them a free pass is an insult to others who lose everything and still keep picking themselves up and going on to serve others and not just themselves, at the cost of losing again. Like cal and any other decent people. Didn’t like this second entry, both technically and story wise, felt it was rushed and not so engaging like the first one. High republic is just not interesting the real problem was the empire and it was so marginal for most of the time. They have a lot to improve if they want to make a third one.

    The first game was better, with a more compelling storyline. Stills a good game, but an inferior sequel. I am not sure why people are surprised about the death of certain vital characters in this one. Everything is going with the flow of the storyline of episode 4, a new hope. As much as I like Cal Kestis's character, he will die in the next one. Perhaps at the hands of Vader
    The game started strong, and discovering the one-arm-corrupted Jedi was intriguing and a wow moment. Jetpat Boy had a villain vibe from the start. I didn't think he was the main villain.

      Do you even remember Dagan's motivation? I loved him but he wasn't as deep as I thought he would, he's basically Anakin from THR(something I hope they use further)

    • @granalmirantethrawn2972
      @granalmirantethrawn2972 Pƙed rokem +14

      @Julian “Jules” R I feel the opposite, Cal and Bode are more similar, have lived similar things, and they deal with the same questions about the future, definitely more potential to see different sides of a same type of character. Dagan is awesome but he's more of a "badass boss", he kinda feels out of place in the current time, and he's at the end of the day just a Taron Malicos 2.0(not saying that he's a bad antagonist, just saying that he works more as a secondary obstacle than an enemy for character development as Bode)

    • @granalmirantethrawn2972
      @granalmirantethrawn2972 Pƙed rokem +5

      @Julian “Jules” R Valid opinion, though I don't feel that either, once they defeat the "fake final boss" you think it's over, but surprise, Bode is a traitor (the fact that you don't see it coming is what makes it better, he's that good of a spy, and the game's trailer supported the fake image) then he does all the damage he can get to Cal and company, after that we see his real background/motivation to feel something more than hate towards him(if it works it will depend on the player) and then, final battle. I think that's enough, introduction, development, conclusion.
      And then you have the force echoes after the game to complete the missing parts like "where was he during x event?" "How did he know x thing?" "When did he decide to make his x move?" Extra info

      @Julian “Jules” R the lore in the books is amazing as well. Especially the main books of phase 1(can't judge phase 2 cause I haven't read them, and I'm not that interested in it at the moment ) but yeah, they did a good job adapting it.
      As for Bode, what else could have they done with him? He reached the point of no return at the end, his motivations were logical but he lost his way. His fear beat him, a battle not many Jedi truly won
