- A rainy fishing session on St. John Island was disappointing to start, but finished with a trio of new species. I had started out targeting some mullet with bread, but once the mullet disappeared and I hadn't caught any I was a bit worried the rest of the day would be similar.
Spot two was just about as bad as spot one with only two fish coming up before I decided to get off of the rocks due to some thunder and lightning in the area.
While on the way to the third spot I stumbled upon some mudskippers in the mangroves and decided to target them. Several minutes later I had two new species on my lifelist, the barred mudskipper (Periophthalmus argentilineatus) and the gold-spotted mudskipper (Periophthalmus chrysospilos).
While the mudskippers were fun, I was onto my next goal. Arriving at the spot I was told had some pink-spotted shrimpgobies (Cryptocentrus melanopus) I made a cast with some shrimp and rather quicky pulled in my target. I wanted to catch this species more than any other in Singapore and I'm glad I was finally able to get one.
Big thank you to sgmultispeciesfishing ( / sgmultispeciesfishing ) for his tips and identification help during not only this session, but during many of my fishing sessions in Singapore.
