Paul - Your fabrication skills always just totally amaze me. I have never had any experience with welding or metal fabrication, and your fearless sense of adventure in just creating what you envision I find awesome and uplifting. I am always amazed by how totally inadequate commercial off-road vehicles are built by their manufacturers to do the job they are supposed to do. If manufacturers just beefed their frames and running components up by 10%, you'd have half the work you currently have resurrecting "totaled" vehicles like this one. I also like your family's involvement in everything you do, and especially Michelle's support and involvement - she's a gem!
Matt's off road recovery brought me here. I weld with a fire shirt too! Keep the vids coming!
Lots of videos with Paul and Matt in the works. Thanks for watching!
Me too but where is part 2
@@FabRats great work you do .. what size is your shop ??
I’m glad your friend wasn’t hurt AND got to keep his Taco. 👍🏻
i wish that toyota offered a solid axle tacoma from the factory as an option, they would sell like hotcakes in the offroad community
For Sure!
CZcams Junky . Totally agree. I had one from new in England. Great off road and even better when you remembered to lock the front hubs.
❤️💯👊
1:09 That General Lee horn impression was spot on ! 👏😆
Love the idea of taking a totaled truck, rebuilding it to be stronger and better than original.
Matt's brought me to your channel and I love it, really like the family atmosphere that is shown to everyone. Wish I lived closer to help you on projects. Keep up the good work and vids.
Welcome to the channel!!
Paul is a genius, a lot of these car guys don’t get the credit they deserve for the mountain of knowledge they have
Saw the straight axle and the form-follows-function bed on Matts off-road recovery, and I knew that I'd like this vehicle.
Obviously an old build! You’ve come a long way Paul. I like the fact You did a basic Toyota and not an over the top build. Great job.
been watching Paul for about 3 weeks now, huge fan of his make any thing he needs, I think he shood make a Toyota Bigfoot monster truck
Did this get any frame straightening first?
My brief time in a Body Shop taught me that the frame shop can pull the bent pieces back to factory measurements before removing anything? They have the tools and the measurements to relieve the stresses caused by the accident.
Love the sound of the frying bacon in the welds! Frying Bacon equals Good Welds!
All I can say is that, what a awesome friend and what a badass Tacoma build!🔥🔧🤘🏽
Having a sleepless night and I decided to re-watch this build. About half way through I realized this was the newest build happening when I subscribed to the channel. It’s been a lot of fun watching y’all grow.
Nice work! Sometimes when it’s mangled you just got to get in there and start cutting! I’m always surprised just how thin all the frame metal is on these trucks, I was just looking at the frame on my brothers Dodge Diesel 3/4 ton and the frame were the bumper mounts is ridiculously thin.
That really turned out good 👍
Yeah, they definitely don’t make them like they used to. We’ve got a video on our other channel that shows how tough the older trucks really are! czcams.com/video/zwpjRRjOwZg/video.html Check it out! And thanks so much for watching!
Nice to see you get the angles right this time.
It is beautiful... so so so beautiful! I mean I had to have a cry over it. AWESOME and MAD props to you fellers.... I wish there were some fab shops around my area. My old 96' taco needs some serious help. Great Job!
Thanks for the kind words! And thanks a ton for watching!
I love how you work it out and make it come together. Really nice work.
Thanks for watching!
Another sick build 👍🏻
I am newer to you3 channel and love it l, so I went back to beginning to watxh them all and this is not meant to mean to anyone but I am glad you have hunter working the camera now because the shots were missing of mostly of what you were doing...but still love the channel..
Great video can’t wait to see part II
Thanks for watching!!
I would love you to do the same with my 2006 Taco. You know yer stuff buddy !
Matts off-road recovery sent me here! Awesome work! You are very talented sir!!
Thanks for watching!
Great video, Im keen for part two.
Im lining up doing the same to my Ford Ranger here in Australia. We have different laws here regarding doing it so im swapping in chassis form a Nissan GQ Patrol so I can actually register it.
let see this thing jump now Scott! Dukes of hazard style!
Matt brought me here and I'm not disappointed.
Good to hear!! Thanks for watching!!
It's like the Six Million Dollar Man will make him stronger better and faster LOL get er done
Seriously impressive fab skills, love the channel
Nice work! Looks solid but I missed Step 1. -> switching Tacoma for a Hilux 😋
Now I'm going to see part 2.
Awesome fab video!!!! Great content!!!
HI Paul and the cox crew Tony from down Under hear Paul could you please let me know what Ampridge your plasma cutter is I bought a second hand one and it will bearly cut car panel metal ripped off again 😭 cheers Tony who will never believe people that tell you yeah I cut 1/2 inch plate again thank you guy's for a great program showing warts and all its so refreshing to watch true to life workmanship 😊
Not the worst situation really. The 2015 was the last year before the power upgrade in these. Straight axles are the way to go and a big reason I love my ‘97 Land Cruiser (last year for the straight axles) Also like how you guys are good about beveling edges on the welded joints which makes for more weld zone and more strength as a result.
Man I wish I had the $,$$$ to do the SAS on my '97 Tacoma. Great work saving that truck Paul!
Funny that everyone wants a SAS under there IFS truck. I originally bought a 84’ single cab 4x4. Bed was shot of course, so I went with a 94’ bare extended cab and bed and got everything to jive on the 84’ frame. No SAS needed already had it. If I want a newer truck I will just switch the cab and bed since the frame and drive train is how I want it set up. Not all that hard to move the fuel tank to the driver’s side, I may just keep it on the passenger side to really put a spin on people’s head.
Glad to see you pulled the trigger on saving your rig brother.
Nice! 👍🏻
This was so cool to watch going to part 2 now ! 👌
That is amazing work, all pretty much by eye and tape measure.
I watched part one and two over and over for the last year. It’s great to revisit the first video that brought me to your channel from mats off and recovery.
One quick question. What length ORI struts are you using on the front of your Tacoma builds?
That's a cool trick with the spray paint!
I wish you could straight axle my Tundra. Thanks for the video. God bless.
It's going to be really cool when it's done
I really want to do this to my F150 now...
First mod should be rear disc brakes, like every other truck
Love watching your channel. I live in the area and was wondering what you charge to do a sas on a tacoma?
Email us at thefabrats@gmail.com
Great to see this content thanks!
Somehow I found part two first...now I know the rest of the story. Nice work!
I watched this build when it came on the first time. Very impressive Paul! My dream is to be able to afford a Super Charger for my ‘97 Tacoma 3RZ. But unfortunately it’s just not within my reach. Would love to know what fuel mileage I could attain driving cross country with the SC. Its 4 cyl 4x4 gets 26 mpg on trips bone stock.
Straight axle toys are available almost everywhere in the world except America.
Nice build!
we need to see scott again!
Ooooh, I do like that mod!!
Great skills mate, really enjoyable to watch. 👍👍👍
Thanks a bunch for watching!
Paul, what are your thoughts on using a pre built Diamond front axel for this solid axel swap? I am thinking of finding a 2010 or so so Tacoma to do this.
great mod! .... y'know, up to a certain point, you guys coulda just decided to turn that truck into a trailer! lol
Add a few light bars and it’s fine.
i wanna get my 88 runner in there for the same treatment
Not a Toyota fan at all, but I wanted to see the front differential build. Topic for another time.
Its not a fabrication episode unless someone burns himself on a freshly welded part. Job well done.
Nice job
Little skid plate? You could lift the truck with it!!
I like the earlier Tacomas.
Nice build guys. Did you need to use hysteer with the 3 link set up?
Didn’t realize I should of watched this first 🤪
What is the approximate cost to SAS one of these? Better yet, a first gen tundra that I would want to do.
A little while ago you said you were going to build a crawler, any idea when you will be starting it?
Awesome Tacoma!
Are the frame plates you welded in also used to fix tacos with frame rot?
I haven't been watching your CZcams for long I noticed when I saw you on Matt's CZcams that your truck had a front axle as well is this the first or second modification to a Toyota Tacoma you have done I have a 2011 I wonder if a front axle is more stable then independent axle
It is and way tougher. 👍🏻
Cool
Better-n-original!
Snap, i missed part 1.. Guess its Everclear shots now! Lol..
Amazing!
I have a question? Paul. On your carbide tipped miter saw how many teeth do you prefer to use in general ???¿
Most of your cutting is heavy gauge so I'm going to assume you you'll use less teeth ??
There's many a brand out there, do you have a preference of 1 ??
I have a 1st gen Taco and I'm a pretty handy guy, but regardless of a "mod every Tacoma owner should do"...I won't be doin that.
Toyota mod 5% of owners should have* guaranteed 90% of people viewing this won’t be taking their Toyota off road and of the 10% that does no more than 5% would do anything extreme enough to need a solid axle. IFS still does the job.
If I had a shop like that, my wife would never see me.
At 9:24 what am I hearing “ I don’t care about them I want their” ??
it's beautiful
Bad ass video what axle did you use??
how do i receive those cool gadget lights and stuff for the mailman?
Melissa will you please force your awesome Husband to put safety glasses on when he is cutting grinding and welding???I am a welder of 30years and i have seen some really bad eye injuries from grinding cutting and welding...please it is important
Names Michelle.😉 I already got him some. 👍🏻
Did I just see a coke in Paul's hand? Is he sick? Lmao
NICE!
So what do I need to do to get Paul to get my 04 Durango with a 5.7 hemi that is messed up on the top end, far as I can tell without disassembling it, driver side back on the road and setup for having some wheeling fun? I can offer a lot of different types of work in exchange along with some cash or whatever it takes! :P
Looking good.
She’s a beaut when she’s done!
Love it
wanna do my 2000 tundra jkjk but good work
Papa dar taking a hot shower with the plasma
Beef... Its whats for dinner.
i came from Matts!!! just sayin
Is this something you guys would do if someone brought a truck to you? I've got an 08 i want to swap.
Do y'all still have the front diff and any stock front drive parts you would be willing to sell?
Hey where's that steering box from? I want to do this to my 08
What blade are you using in the chop saw?
This is a Taco dream of mine! What would a job like this cost, parts and labor?
This project took 110 hours, and parts alone were $10,000 so it’s kind of an investment.
@@FabRats that's still a lot cheaper than dude buying a new truck! I watched pt 2, after my first comment. Damn good job!
What wire are you using in you MIg Welder? Awesome Fab work.....
O35 👍🏻
OK Thanks
How long did it take you to build your shop?
what bumper is that?
It's always fun to tease someone else's project.. .WHAT...
Why are those crossmember bolts head down? Or am i not seeing that right?
Because they weren’t grade 8 bolts and he switched them out later. 👍🏻
