    I often get asked about what equipment I use for busking and how I transport it. Many of you know that I recently bought a bike for getting around with my kit, but it's taken a few evolutions to get my busking set up to where it is now...

    Been busking about 8 years, playing violin and other instruments 69 years and am 75.
    Been through similar changes.
    Funny stories, hah?
    I use a power wheelchair and modified the back of it to hold my Roland Street Cube.
    Then drape a heavy duty bag to hold the Roland Speaker and cords, pedals etc.
    Use a RockPals generator 250 watt because my speaker runs out too quickly.
    Getting ready to snake my pedals together with portable 5-pedal input battery bank.
    QUESTION:
    You said your amp doesn't have reverb?
    I think the reverb on my Cube Street is just fine.
    Whatssup?
    Keep up the great work, you get an A+ from an old teacher.

This lockdown has made me get back into my passion in a big way. You can stick the 9 to 5 I'm going doing my passion. Getting my head down learning some songs now. Informative! I've been busking for 11 years and I've found a Backpack Gig Bag, a Roland Cube Street, and a milk crate on the back of my bicycle gets me to and from most anywhere... I have a looper pedal, and instead of using a Mic Stand, I use a Harmonica Holder to grip my microphone. It's a bit straining on the neck, but it sure beats lugging around a full mic stand.

    Hopefully these comments won't be taken the wrong way. We all love Charlotte the person. If we can help her in any way, we will. When your Streets Of London video was shown on FPL, I had a lump in my throat when I saw the comments from people. So many people love you for who you are as a person. Hopefully the weddings you did this weekend went well, and they will live happily ever after.
    If you go to Portugal for the couple who proposed a few days ago and made me cry, I wish them all the best as well. As I said at the time, you couldn't have scripted that. By getting emotional, you proved that you are a normal human being with feelings. You are more than forgiven for making me cry by uploading that particular video.

    I live in Australia and I have been going busking for almost 20 years. I spent most of that time homeless, riding bicycles with trailers, sleeping in a car, camping and fishing. Today I'm 45 and have finger injuries. I always played an accoustic guitar with no amp strumming as loud as I can, and singing with no mic. My voice has held up but due to playing a cheap guitar, with high action, pressing down hard (because I am strumming hard) I have caused micro injuries to become a real injuries in my fingers. If I wish to continue to play guitar, I have to change how I play. Anyway it's good to see people getting out and enjoying busking. Its a great life.

      @@ccampbellmusic thanks for the reply.. I feel very lucky to have had busking as my career in life. I have played to a lot of people, in a lot of towns over the years. It has taught me so much about people, myself and what music actually is. It has taught me what is important in life and how to stay happy. I feel good when I play and sing, and I enjoy the independence the money brings. I encourage anyone who wants to be a street performer to go for it. I have also been profoundly deaf since I was a teenager, so I have an assistance dog, a whippet that comes busking with me. He is always the topic of conversation. I went busking a couple of days ago, I took my bike, the dog in the bike trailer, and guitar. 🎸🚴🐾 Oh yeah...I forgot to say, I am super proud of you for going busking.

    "Then I gave myself a new problem to solve..." - Love it! :-) It's inspirational to see how resourcefully you've upgraded. Perhaps worth mentioning in this context that Fishman is hitting the market with a new version of its much-loved Loudbox Mini, called the Loudbox Mini Charge, which is identical to the original, but with the addition of a battery (4 hours of operation at top volume) and Bluetooth for playbacks. It still comes in under 10 kg and is rather compact, so might be an option for some. I own the standard model (no battery), and can describe its sound as very loud and full (great bass, very punchy, smooth), and also quite transparent (with a bit of treble added). It has built-in reverb (both channels, only adjustable in terms of the amount, not the type of reverb) and chorus (on the guitar channel, only). It has slightly upward-tilting face to it, which helps, and you can tip it a bit more with a board or towel rolled up underneath. I love it a lot, and plan to sell my Mini for a Mini Charge when it materializes.

    You should look into getting a Ridgid brand tool box on wheels. It's a lot sturdier than trolleys, and since the amp is enclosed inside the box, it will be protected from the elements. When you first open the box up, it will be partitioned inside, but that can come out, and it fits an acoustic amp perfectly. I'm in the US. I don't know whether you have that brand in the UK, but I'm sure you can find something similar.

I use a Fishman mini Charge for my PA. I love it and it must have some nice preamps built into the 2 channels because it really makes my guitar and voice sound better and more refined. • @scottbecker3485
      @scottbecker3485 Před 6 lety

      The Street Cube Ex is great...but didn't make me happy until I replaced the woofers (bass speakers) with Jensen 4-Ohm speakers. They not only give the amp appreciably more bass and warmth, but also a tiny but more volume, despite even being a couple hundred grams lighter! A really worthwhile mod to make, and totally easy. I got the idea from a fellow musician, who got it from PianoManChuck here on CZcams. After watching his video, be sure to check out my comments below it, where I explain a way to change the speakers even without using a soldering gun. The whole project took less than 15 minutes, and the speakers are cheap (I think I paid about EUR 35 for the both of them). Now I totally love the Cube Street Ex!!! :-) So get yourself a used one, mod it, and smile. Oh, and if you don't like the way your particular mic sounds through the amp (many sound a bit too harsh because the amp somewhat overdoes it with the treble, or not full enough in the bass if your mic cuts the bass too much), try others. It's worth it in order to bring out the best the amp can deliver.

    • @scottbecker3485
      @scottbecker3485 Před 4 lety

      Mick Dwyer I‘ll fire up the Street Cube Ex later on today and see (I think my old SM58 is lying around somewhere...). But based on my experience with all other mics on this amp (about 8 in total), I‘d say that if your voice is anywhere similar to mine (somewhat baritone = lowish), then you would only be happy with the Street Cube Ex when singing through an SM58 (which, when held close, pushes the lower regions in a nice way) if you swapped the woofers as I detailed above. Otherwise, the amp will sound a bit weak, lacking „chest“ energy. As for cutting through, it has oodles of treble on the knob, so no problem getting any mic to cut through. More of a problem to keep certain mics from sounding too sharp. Before testing the SM58 for you on my modified amp, I will say that - for busking - I have come to love and exclusively use my Bose S1 pro. It has a much easier-to-carry size, packs a solid punch without breaking up when you scream into it, a very pleasing sound and doesn‘t need to be modded to sound great. My Street Cube Ex is sitting around at home, unused, because I still love it enough to not sell it, but it‘s just not getting out with me any more.

    • @scottbecker3485
      @scottbecker3485 Před 4 lety

      Mick Dwyer A few minutes later.... :-) Found the old SM58 and plugged it in. Very easy to cut through with that sound. Had the bass at about 1:30, the mids about 11:00, and the treble about 1:30. Reverb straight up, and channel volume about 1-2:00. Loud and clear! Still, I prefer the „meatier“ sound of the Bose S1 Pro. And repeat that the bass on the standard Street Cube Ex is not at all enough for me. The standard amp sounds a bit tinny.

    I also have the Bose S1 speaker comes WITH reverb and battery lasts 11 hours also bluetooth. My wireless mics are all battery powered. I just need something for the reverb pedal.
    Thanks

    I have a fender acoustasonic amp that I will either do the battery and inverter, it’s a 90watt one so wonder if your battery and inverter will work to power it?... or get the Acus one street battery powered amp. Charlotte Campbell just an update... I acquired an “Acus one for street” battery powered amp. Honestly this thing is amazing ... I’ve never experienced clarity and true instrument tone from any other two channel amp I’ve heard or used. Only downside is it is 15.5 kilograms. Thanks for the reply. Will probably still get a inverter and battery for the Fender to play dodgy areas 😂

    Hi Charlotte
    Great video and great solutions.
    I’m about to start busking (at the age of 69) and found your video very helpful, but can I ask you for more information regarding your battery and inverter?
    What size is the battery - amp hours?
    What make is your inverter?
    Can I also ask how long the power lasts when you’re on a gig?
    I intend to use a Yamaha 400i pa, or Maui5 pa, a couple of microphones and a saxophone plus backing tracks. I haven’t mastered the art of both singing and playing, in fact, I haven’t mastered the art of either.

    So would they let you on the tube with a bike trailer or do you just travel by bike now? I'm grappling with just how much is practical to take on the train. I calculated that a guitar, amp battery and inverter will weigh up to about 50kg - not exactly light! Then there is the issue of what to do with it all when you are out and need to heed the call of nature! That has to be difficult!

    • @ccampbellmusic
      @ccampbellmusic  Před 5 lety +1

      Haha no I don’t take the bike on the tube! Choosing how to transport yourself is such a tough part of busking because it is all so heavy and in London taking the tube with a lot of stuff makes you public enemy number one! Hope you figure out a convenient way! The bike works for me but sometimes it causes more problems than it solves...

    There are some portable power supplies you could check out one of them i found was by flash fish which is about 4 1/2 lbs it has 2 outlets one is a 2 prong hole and the other a 3 prong hole. Has 3 usb ports and has dc outputs. I stumbled upon this on a youtube review because i needed a power supply that was able to give me what i needed for the reason that i just gotten a zoom g3n peddle but later discovered it wasnt battery operated😠. So i found one by energizer which hands down i would go for but its specs showed me otherwise. It said on a full battery that it would only give about 90% of life before recharging im like nope. Now this one by flash fish it can power cell phones laptops bipap machines, multiple items at once as long as it does hit pass the amount of watts it allows. Using it for my peddle it gives me about a week with out charging depending how long i play usually 2 hrs play time. The size of it is about as big as a adults lunch box so yeah its perfectly sized to were its not bulky and wont be in the way.

      @rudy-dx3vx Před 3 lety

      Yeah it is. When i told my dad about it he got me this for christmas. Then he tried it out and liked it. He was talking about getting one for himself. Only one small flaw about it but still worth it is on the usb when charging your phone or anything, the first 2 usb ports charge phones faster than the 3rd so it will take up at least 2 life bars of the flash fish if you use one of those 2 ports i dont remember the amount of power it puts out the 3 port gives normal power so it will charge slowly. Second thing is when the battery runs down it does take a while to charge i think like 4 maybe 5 hours or so.

    • @ccampbellmusic
      @ccampbellmusic  Před 3 lety

      @@rudy-dx3vx That's ok though I tend to charge my battery over night so 4/5 hours charging would work for me :) I know what you mean about the USB, my lithium battery has a USB option but I find that if I'm using the T bar it makes the USB port inactive and sometimes even makes my phone battery go down quicker!! So weird! Thanks for the heads up on this, always good to know the options out there for batteries!

    • @rudy-dx3vx
      @rudy-dx3vx Před 3 lety

      Yeah it has 3 usb ports. The 1st 2 ports are Q.C. ports meaning quick charge whuch charges your phone quicker the kast port is a 2.4A, not sure what the A stands for but it charges slower. When the generator runs out of battery you have 3 ways of charging it 1. plug into a wall. 2. Charge it in your car or 3. by solar panel. Which is pretty cool.
