      :) I've played enough valve amps in my life to know that there no better than solid state. Solid state just gets a bad rap for no real reason. I prefer Solid State over valve any day.

      ***** I hope you check out my follow up post, but....
      Ever hear of, or try a Quilter amp? Specifically the quilter mini 101 or the toneblock 201?
      Fantastic amps. Lightweight, tons of power (100 and 200 watts respectively) all analog.
      And the unique circuitry actually interacts differently in its preset modes! So you get different, authentic styles of clipping or compression.
      Oh, and did I mention they are only 2 and 4 lbs respectively? check em out if you can. it's all I play now.

      @@thedavesimpson There's nothing objectionably good about the tone of a SS. I mean it's passable, but there's just no warmth to it. I could understand the simplicity of not having to maintain tubes and what not, but that's about it.

    I gigged with this amp last night with friends in a reheashall band (voice, bass, drums, piano) and I was really impressed. I always used tube Marshall amps, but this Fender 212R is great. A little heavy. Volume never over 3. it's loud!! super clean and decent crunch. 🤟

    I love mine! Need to get it out of storage. One of the few amps that makes my older BOSS MT-2 sound decent (on the clean channel of course). Very tubey sounding solid state amp. Great distortion tones. The clean channel even breaks up a bit like a tube amp at higher volumes. I also used to patch my Zoom GFX 5 straight on the power amp in, with the speaker sim turned off. Later versions did include a headphone jack, but I don't need that as the GFX 5 is fine for late night sonic brawling.

    I've had one for six months now (bought after watching this review). Great amp! One complaint I keep seeing about this amp is that it's too loud! The volume controls only have to go a half millimetre past "1" and it starts getting loud. Also, the amp really starts sounding even better at 6 and above on the volume, too loud for a garage jam, let alone bedroom practice. Discovered a great hack for this today, and it's a ridiculously obvious solution.
    I just connected a battery-powered preamp/D. I. Pedal (Behringer ADI) that I had using the FX loop and it works as a volume attenuator. I can now crank the Amp's volume controls as high as I like while using the D.I. as a master volume. Also, to my ear, it's greatly improved the Amp's overdrive sound.

      Tony Colletta * Surprised ? Did you not see the FENDER badge on it? All kidding aside though, those fender frontman amps are very very good for how cheap they are, but my fender frontman 212R blew up the filter caps and some heavy ceramic resistors and I've been meaning to get it fixed (it's all taken apart in my garage ready to be fixed) but can't find the parts plus it's not really in the agenda seeing as how I now own all the fender classics (Vintage Twin REVERB, vintage Bassman silver face,BF Pro Reverb...) so the frontman falls down the list of priorities pretty fast, ESPECIALLY when A pair of tubes cost about as much as it would cost to take the FM212 TO a shop to repair, and the FM212 can be found used for$100.00 usually so I could just buy another if the urge came, but it doesn't really the classics take care it my needs, until they don't then solid state seems appealing for the fact that they just get up an go, no warming up and no stage power voltage issues like with my deluxe reverb not working properly because the Damned electricity in the night club is getting sucked by the deep fryer and the massive freezer along with all the other bar and kitchen appliances going all night in the joint 😉 But yeah I really like Dave Simpson channel and talking gear with fellow music makers 😉

    I bought one with a Squier JV as the seller would not sell them separately. I like the clean channel, the amp is a little fuzzy on the drive channel but my twin bucker guitar loves it. Strats and Teles are great clean but the 'warm melt' that my Fender Super 210 tube amp gives you is missing from this solid state amp. All in all it's a great and very loud amp and thankfully there are no digital multi effects gimmicks.

I have a 2008 model myself, of which I am going to outfit with WGS ET65's (which comes highly recommended for this specific amp), in the hopes of attaining a great sound as you did. The "Special Design" (Eminence) speakers from the factory are just plain awful, except at low volume on the clean channel.
    BTW: Your Strat is absolutely gorgeous. Although it has seen a lot of action, it looks more like a a one-of-a-kind custom model that sounds amazing. I say never part with it...!

I lost it when moving last year and am thinking of getting another one. The guy I bought it from said it had black widows in it... He thought. I paid $400... excuse me, Overpaid for it. Not complaining about the amp... he WAS a friend but always wanted to get over on whoever. Anyways, I was wondering what would be an alternative speaker to use. Whatever I had sounded alright but kinda muddy and dark. I played an ESP LTD ( Nothing fancy but it played great and I went through all of the settings and found a couple of tones I liked. I like a bright, clear sound like Hughie Thomasson when he played with Skynyrd and sort of got close. Any recommendations?? Thanks and greatly appreciated!!

      Dave Simpson if it's a true Fender style parallel input, then it will both be a low input Z the amp will see.

      Thank you. It doesn't look like this any more though. It just a Vintage V6 i ordered from vintage. When it came it was black and i wanted a white one with a maple neck so i sprayed it and over tme the paint chipped to reveal the black underneath. Plus dragging it around a stage helped it look like this. I got tired of it looking this way though so i refinished it again totally white with no black underneath. Thankyou for watching. :)

      @thedavesimpson  Před 8 lety +1

      +elmero mero Howde. You are not able to plug a head into this amp. You can run another amp off the frontman as a salve but its not a speaker cab to plug a head into. :)

    Why do so many guitar channels randomly say "yea" while they're talking? Darrell Braun does it a lot. So does CS Guitars and a few others.

  • @burktheguitar
    @burktheguitar Před 8 lety

    Hi Dave, I really like your demo on this amp. At 7:00 you are saying that you prefer your Fender Stage 100 over this amp. Is it just because of the 1X12 versus 2X12 and the weight, or are there other reasons too? In other words my question is: Do they sound/play different. I am only interested in the clean channel with pedals. Thanks a bunch! Greetings from Germany. Keep rocking!

    • @thedavesimpson
      @thedavesimpson  Před 8 lety

      +burktheguitar Hello. They do sound different yes. The stage was a bit darker sounding where as the frontman is a lot more sparkly and trebly which I'm not such a fan of. For me it just comes down to the tone and the stage (that I unfortunately had to sell and it kills me everyday) was just more appealing to my ear. If your running pedals through it either amp is great. Greetings from the UK. :)

    • @burktheguitar
      @burktheguitar Před 8 lety

      +Dave Simpson Wow that was fast! Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. Since we are talking: What would be your experience with the 2x12 of the Frontman versus the Stage 1x12 ? I am trying to find out if the 2x12 would be of an advantage for me - not for volume - but to fill up the stage with sound. I play blues/rock with a few pedals. Once more - thanks for your time!

    • @thedavesimpson
      @thedavesimpson  Před 8 lety +1

      +burktheguitar In my experience theres no real difference between the frontmans 2X12 to the stage's 1X12. The both sounded great and big at stage volume. It just comes down to what feels better for you when you play. :)
