    Korg recently launched version 4 of its collection of virtual synths and in this video I look at what’s included in the collection. The orignal collection was launched back in 2004 as the Korg Legacy Collection with five synths and has now grown to 12 instruments ranging from classic mono synths from 1971 to virtual analogs of 2002.
    With the Korg Collection 4 Korg have added the miniKorg, Electribe and KAOSS pad.
    In the video I look at each synth in the collection and give you a flavour of what each one can do. The full package costs $299 from Korg and supports VST and AAX as well as standalone versions. They run on Mac and PC.

    That would make sense and would certainly create an accessible set of faves. Thanks

    As a newbie to software synths this was very helpful in developing my understanding of the korg family of synths. Is there any way from a performance perspective of creating a collection of favorite sounds and having them accessible to the musician on screen? Thanks for the video

      One way is to create a new project in your DAW and have each of your favorites on each track.

    Can you tell me if there's a preset called 'Theater Organ'? Thanks!

    stupid question but do you find this better than arturia synths ? I get that they do not emulate the same synths but if you had to choose on which bundle to buy between the two which one would you choose ?

    • @IanDixonTDL
      @IanDixonTDL  Před rokem +1

      Good question. If you want an exact copy of the orginal then the Korg collection is great, if you want something a bit different then the Arturia ones are good.
      I got the Korg collection initially for the Wavestation emulation which wasn't available any other way.

      This guy doesn't kmow how to answer questions. I have both arturia and korg. Get the korg if you can't afford both. Korg collection 4 has the most value for money. Arturia offers less overall. The korg collection is vast in sounds, covers everything in all genres from rock to world music. Just think of the M1, just on its own it offers so much. You can use drumkits, percussion, woodwinds, etc on one keyboard. So if you're a sessionist, you'll never get stuck with the korg. The arturia is quality over quantity but you can find yourself stuck unless you're good at programming patches coz it has the cmi and the emulator 2 (and melotron). So with the arturia you'll need to work the patches here and there where the korg probably won't need any programming.

      Agree with those who say Korg. Arturia only offers a handful of synths. I own the Korg Triton and Korg Triton Extreme VST's and there are so many sounds it's almost sensory overload. Not to mention, a lot of the custom sounds of iconic songs of all genres of the last 30 years. If you're an avid synth enthusiast, you could probably find Arturia's collection useful but if you want straight out the box sounds, layered sounds, rich electric pianos, fat synth leads and emulated instruments like nylon and jazz guitar, strings, brass, etc; the Korg Collection is far superior.

      0:43 Arturia offers a far far better collection. You have to consider you get emu and fairlight reproductions. There's a few rogues in the Korg camp. Odyssey is nothing like the real thing. It's a joke it's so far away. The best are the polysix and monopoly. Polysix is particularly accurate. Obviously Korg M1 is perfect accuracy. Korg mS20 there's better but sounds good but not as close as Arturia or cherry audio.

    Can you import and export patches between the plugins and their original counterparts? I have the microKORG and would like to use the plugin as an editor.

      I think it can send via midi, I will have a look. I don't have any of the real versions of the plugins to try but I do have an MS2000.

    After a long time of hesitate - asking myself if I really need even more softsynths and that for not so low price, I finally bought it some time ago.
    And I don't regret it. Only the too small GIU of the Odyssey is not scalable. Big shame.

    there is no vst 2 support on the microkorg kaoss pad and electribe.....which is dissapointing as my old DAW (Orion Platinum) doesn't support vst 3..

    you have something to do with music and you have such a background noise and you don't record line inputs but speakers? really?

    • @IanDixonTDL
      @IanDixonTDL  Před 6 měsíci

      Not sure what you mean, the audio of the synths was captured directly from the sound card no line or speakers needed.
