  • It’s Round 2 of The Royal Enfield Continental GT Cup, and things are starting to get intense. Rivalries are forming, as the riders get into the thick of the season. Every race, every corner counts now. Strategies change, as amateur and pros alike try to get themselves to the top of the points table. The fight is ON.
The Royal Enfield Continental GT Cup: 8 races, 25 riders - 15 amateurs and 10 professional racers - speed around the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore, riding identical race-prepped versions of the iconic Royal Enfield Continental GT-R650. The Continental GT Cup is a one-make race format that goes back to the roots of motorcycle racing. Inspired by the purist racing culture of the 1960s, the bikes are devoid of any electronic rider aids to ensure that the only thing separating the winners from everyone else is pure riding skill. The Royal Enfield Continental GT Cup prides itself on being one of the most accessible motorcycle races in India. With bike racing culture on the rise, this three part episodic series hopes to help inspire biking enthusiasts to think about racing as a viable future.

I absolutely LOVE this series!! Please keep the videos coming. I can 💯 % feel the passion of these amateur and pro racers! No wonder we have MotoGP in India now. I wish we had even close to as many motorcycles on the streets in America like they do in India. Ride fast my brothers… and take chances!!

Very impressive riding and the video really takes you into the racers world. Great cast of characters both racers and track/event staff. I love the same make production race type events. Reminds me of the early 80’s RD cup races. Makes it all about rider skills.
Well done to all who put this together. Royal Enfield you rock!

Love it! Racing bikes back to the core components. Cheap, simple, exciting. So....where can I buy one as my trackbike? :-)

To put it nicely, these guys may be "fast" compared to the average rider, but MotoGP is a different ball game. 50 odd horsepower on a bike that's basically an engine fitted to 6 steel beams of a chassis, vs 320 HP at 167 Kgs and the pinnacle of prototype racing. Let's just say any rider in the GP paddock including the Moto3 riders will destroy these guys and will lap them multiple times on equal machinery. I honestly felt second hand embarrassment watching this guy at 1:05 talking about visualizing the track, I don't think you sound as cool as you think you do bud. The Grand Prix riders firmly have their feet on their ground and don't talk shit even though they might as well, considering what they do is quite superhuman. Be humble.

Simple - Money. It takes a lot of money to sustain oneself in any motorsport. Riders cannot sponsor themselves. They need sponsorship. Also, who will invest in organising racing events involving any motorcycle? We have one-make events involving these bikes, the KTM RC390, some TVS models and maybe the Yamaha R15. These events have no international renown. Therefore, there is no platform for riders to enable riders to ascend to even Moto3, let alone Moto GP. Fortunately, RE has decided to make an investment and create this excellent motorcycle racing event to at least bring some momentum to this culture.

How many motorcycle tracks are there in India? How many racing series for motorcycles? How much money does it cost to become a motorcycle racer? You will get your answer, nobody considers racing a career over here. Its all about get an education and get a job or go overseas that's it. Go see in Europe, the 50hp bikes these 25-30 yr old guys are racing are raced by teenagers in Europe. That's how you create world class talent, first talented kids in India need to be groomed and compete with each other not like these 25-30 yr olds and then national talent need to compete at international level and so on.

I see a lack of infrastructure to support the learning. There is a gap in skill levels to compete at the MotoGP level. MotoGP guys are on a different level of skill. Even the professional category here would be considered amateur for MotoGP guys. They'd still beat these guys even if all of them were to race Activa.

To put it nicely, these guys may be "fast" compared to the average rider, but MotoGP is a different ball game. ( I own an INT650 and the limited trackable perfomace of the bike is glaringly obvious after you start getting to it's limits) 50 odd horsepower on a bike that's basically an engine fitted to 6 steel beams of a chassis, Vs 320 HP at 167 Kgs and the pinnacle of prototype racing. Let's just say any rider in the GP paddock including the Moto3 riders will destroy these guys and will lap them multiple times on equal machinery.
