Dale Torborg- 3 bad WCW gimmicks in one video

On Ring Of The Hawk we always listen to the fans. Which is why this week we are doing a Patreon request from N Wright who wanted to see Demon Dale Torborg from WCW. Will he shuv it or will I love it? He was mostly booked badly and he was Eric Bishoffs idea because he loved the band KISS. He didn’t really do much apart from FACE OFF with Norman Smiley and Vampiro. - Komedie
Spending large amounts of money to get a KISS themed wrestler, and turning him into the biggest jobber on the roster. Yep, sounds like WCW logic right there.
KISS wanted to do this with WWF, and McMahon was all about it, but wanted part of KISS' merch sales, so they went to Bischoff. It all comes down to bad management which sums up most of WCW's issues, so I agree with that. The original plans weren't to put this kind of effort into creating a jobber, but it was Bischoff who set it up, then new management shut it all down. Unfortunately Bischoff struck the deal but then was no longer in charge when this debut happened. There was supposed to be 3 more members coming to form a stable. The new management jobbed him out so fans wouldn't get behind it, he was supposed to main event 1 PPV, and they got around that by booking a "special main event", which was the 4th match on the card, that he lost almost instantly. I mean the money was already spent on the deal, the character was already created, they should have just gave it a shot instead of instantly turning it into a jobber, they had nothing to lose at that point. They could have thrown jobbers at the guy and sold some merch, to make something back on the investment, and judge the fans reaction, but they jobbed him out the gate. Nobody is going to give a shit about a wrestler losing every match.
The thing is, when Kiss and WCW finalized the deal he was meant to be pushed but Bischoff who was a fan of KISS got fired and the guy after him hated the gimmick and kiss and buried him this is what happened..
Lol
@@ROFLSoup and WCW is still considered great by many lol
@@EzraDair rip
My takeaway: Dale torborg was the most impressive-looking jobber ever!
Jimmy Rave, Low Ki and Barry Horowitz want a word with you.
@@SpiralPoliFemboy I think he means in terms of his physique.
He wasn’t a jobber lol
@@madant22 Yes he was. Did you even watch the video?
@@SpiralPoliFemboy Wait, Warrior was a jobber?
Wow, TNA really was The Country Where The Large Kids Have Fun.
Norman Smiley rocked.
A very talented man but stuck with goofy gimmicks in WCW
He sure did
Agree. He even works at the wwe performance center as an trainer/ assistant Coach
He certainly was one of the few bright spots about WCW's late days
The Big Wiggle is the most electrifying move in sports entertainment!
I hope The Dog had less than 25 matches in WCW, because he sounds like a perfect candidate for ROH
oh god yes, he’s proper hawk bait
he hadd 8 matches as the dog
He was Master Blaster Blade with Kevin Nash as Steel after the guy who was Iron went AWOL and left after 1 match
well...
Brian Knobbs and "The Dog" vs Norman Smiley and the Kiss Demon are the real highlight here. Seriously the most WCW match-up that could have ever been thought up.
I want a WWF No Mercy mod with these wrestlers.
Agreed
The Dog actually seemed to have some good moves, that clothesline he took outside looked great and his slam from the top was really impressive.
@@samuelwoods164 The Dog was actually Al Green, ex tag partner of Kevin Nash back in his Master Blaster days and Rage of The Wrecking Crew in the early 90s. He had been reduced to perpetual jobber status by the late 90s.
@@bink yeah I was curious after I posted this and looked him up, thanks though.
The facepainted baseball player gimmick actually reminds me of The Baseball Furies gang from "The Warriors".
When Horace Hogan is the better worker in your match, you know you're in trouble
Horace Hogan vs Wes Pisco vs Garrett Bischoff vs Rob Terry vs Obese 8 Year Old Indian Boy vs Cricket Guy in the Elimination Chamber
That match will send Marky D and The Hawk into a rage.
Horace was in Japan before all this. Like his uncle, Horace was more impressive in New Japan, and WAR. Horace couldn't connect with the crowd, so he had to step up his game.
It's pretty funny how WCW immediately buried The Demon, giving him no credibility whatsoever. Losing so many matches in a row and telling everyone the blood is fake.
It's funny because Bischoff and Russo both thought the gimmick was cool.
KISS was huge in the 70s, not so much in the 80s after they took the face paint off but still a big deal. In the late 90s they did a reunion with all four original members and the face paint back on, and the Demon was intended to help promote it. So there you are with the short version
Rumor has it that there was going to be a KISS wrestling stable.
Kiss had a game on the Sega Dreamcast too :)
@@gildedvulture7965 Oh didn't know that. I hate to admit it but the KISS pinball game I had on my PS2 was a blast to play
Their Pinball Machine is legendary but the rest... eh, give or take.
@@gildedvulture7965 they had the psycho circus comic too
I will admit: Torborg has a nice Butterfly Suplex. Not many people pull it off well.
Well to be honest, the graveyard match feels like a bad precursor for other "Cinematic" matches like the boneyard match. So thats an interesting aspect of a fairly bad run.
You could say that for the Monster Truck Sumo Match too, since they did that the day before Halloween Havoc
Remember that 1 time Dale Torborg as the strength and conditioning coach for the then Florida Marlins got into a confrontation with 6 finger pitcher Antonio Alfonseca and it resulted in Alfonseca running away from Torborg and locking himself in the club house in fear of Torborg.
Even Scooby Doo did a better Kiss homage.
lololol
loooooool the cheeky slurring mut did as well .
DUFFYISBACK hahahah 😂
TWICE.
The added audio for "S" rankings is my favorite thing. Don't try to punch me in the gut, jack!!
OH MAN!
*AW MAN!* It is my favorite thing going right now too haha
SHUV IT MAN!! 😂
The Dog. Once was known as Al Green & was in a tag team with Kevin Nash as the Master Blasters another knock off Road Warriors tag team.
Oh yeah, the guy who Tank Abbott once threatened to slice his neck.
@@mesousagaby740 Totally different guy. Just like how Husky Harris and Bray Wyatt are two different men
The biggest heel in WCW history was its writing staff
Jamie Kellner, actually... He will always have real heat with WCW fans. (He was the guy who made the biggest mistake in wrestling history when he decided to cancel Nitro and Thunder on behalf of AOL TimeWarner, leading to WCW's sale to WWE).

11:26 Caddicarus in his armpit-height sweatpants. I can't unsee it.
18:23 Van Hammer was supposed to be "Private Stash" cause pot humor and Vince Russo, but he didn't like the idea of being a "private", so they decided to cater to his ego and call him Major Stash, ruining the joke. Wrestling.
Goddamn Russo was just fucking around.😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Having the time of his life stringing these puppets.
Something tells me I would too.
Russo must be giggling on TV and high fiving ed ferrara.
I cannot BELIEVE I thought this guy was cool when I was a little girl!! Lmiao. Booking sure screwed him up the butt. 💜
Kids love face paint 🤷♂️
Wcw really did have some wack gimmicks lol I didn't realize it when I was a little boy but going back on it I can see why my dad dreaded monday nitro nights lol
I think if the Kiss gimmick happened at Starrcade in the 80s, It would've been moderately successful but still no Mr T and Cyndi Lauper at Mania.
It was.Eric bischof idea and when he left the kiss demon was not liked by most so they made a joke out of him a and turned him into a jobber
@@leejames1839 Im honestly not shocked to hear that was all Bischoff. His wardrobe in the WCW days to me screamed "Midlife crisis dad spending kids's college fund on a Harley Davidson" 😂
Marky I never watched tna and I still don't. But you and your channel was so damn entertaining that I had to sub all those month ago. Thank for being such an entertaining person and keep up the original content
Thanks brother appreciate the kind words on this cold miserable day!
Amen, brother!
Never watched that trash, and no way I’m watching it now! But I love the content!
I loved Vampiro as a kid , WCW should've done more with him
Vince Russo logic, how to get this gimmick over. Have him lose every time.
I knew he lost alot in 2000 with Vampiro and Sting, but i didn't recall him losing two matches out the gate, making him look stupid. Yikes
Aka the Vince McMahon method
@@angstyappledummy7026 up north its Vince, down south its the other Vince
This was on Eric not Russo, delusional hate.
@@micahjohnsonboxing6409 Eric lost his booking power shortly after they struck the K.I.S.S. deal, Markey mention it towards the end of the video
That Goofy Looking Elbow drop is called "The Sheeple's Elbow"
That bicycle kick was HILARIOUS!!😂
How do you botch a bicycle kick like that??
"The Dog" was Al Green (who tagged with Kevin Nash as "The Master Blasters" in 1990).
My God, this guy was booked terribly. Vince Russo is a goddamn menace to professional wrestling.
Man the hate is real, this was Eric's idea.

@@micahjohnsonboxing6409 Even the site that you linked says that Bischoff lost his position.
"The PPV and the match were taken off the table, however, after Eric Bischoff lost his position."
@@dorkymcthuggerson He's incorrect most of this was before Russo came in. Remember it was Eric in charge, then Nash then Russo by the time Russo came in The Demon was already ruined. You're blinded by hate.

Torborg’s face-paint as MVP looks like Kane’s mask
More like fake Sting or a bad replication of Sting's Wolfpack face paint
It looks like Abyss Red Mask
Speaking of masks. Am I the only one wondering why Michael Myers is in the front row. I'm not kidding look at 2:21 front row Michael Myers in an NWO shirt
Am I the only one who didn't know about Dale's other gimmicks?
Thanks to Markyd123, now we know.
I know I thought there was only one MVP in wrestling
Hay we got this new gimmick that we promised to have a main event on a PPV. Have him lose to Funk in the fist match.
The Wall match was billed as being a "special main event", and it was the 3rd match on the card. I suppose having it as the actual main event would have made sense for the benefit of people who needed to leave the arena before the event ended. :P
As a lifelong Kiss fan, I think the gimmick worked if it was put on a better wrestler and done maybe 10-15 years earlier
It was originally Bryan (crush) Adams, who did the Demon gimmick! I believe had he kept it,it would have gotten over!
Well at least Norman Smiley rules lol, also it’s so weird seeing Great Muta in WCW in the year 2000 when he was already almost 20 years into his career at this point and he just won a major title the GHC Heavyweight title in NOAH in the year of 2021
loved norman back in the day
@@alejbr4 I was only 4 years old when WCW went out of business in 2001 so I have over the years went back and watched a lot of old wrestling and Norman is awesome
Kenji Mutoh!
I swear.. Muta and Terry Funk will still be wrestling in 20 years and Norman Smiley will still look like he did when he was in WCW 😂🤣
As if NOAH have no faith in Shiozaki and put over a 58 years old man, sure Muto have name value but in 2021?
I’m gonna say you’re very entertaining, I don’t know what is but you just have something that can’t make me say shuv it when there’s a new video. Keep up the great content
That maestro line was hilarious 🤣
I swear, if we don't get Wes Pisco vs Garret vs The Demon at SHOVITMANIA; I'M GONNA SMACK YA ONE!
"The Demon Dale Torborg" has a nice ring too it
So spend millions of dollars to have a wanna be Gene Simmons jobber... this genius idea is many that killed WCW
Yeah that was the trade off for having KISS on nitro
Could've been worse; originally, they wanted to do a PPV in Tempe, Arizona on December 31st, 1999, that would've cycled into a KISS concert right at midnight.
@@bigjohnsbreakfastlog5819 That actually sounds better because it sounds like it wouldn't take up any actual wrestling time and people at the show could also enjoy a concert. Contrary to this uploaders opinion, Kiss is pretty legendary and people in the 90s still loved them.
@@TheTenCentStory they were not popular by the end of 90s
@@wingedhussar1453 They did a world tour in 1997...
Jesus...I never knew about "The Dog" and I watched Nitro and Thunder regularly.
If you can find more of his matches, please do a video on him :D
You feel the same way about Samoan Drops that I do about splashes off the top rope.
Also, I wonder what Booker hated more, feuding over shampoo commercial residuals or the letter T. With the way he was booked sometimes, it's amazing he was able to have the Hall of Fame career he had.
This channel makes wrestling cool, intresting, fun a bunch of good things it hasn't been in a long time.
This was WCW in it's dying days To say The Demon was booked bad to make Bishoff look bad is absurd They couldn't make their top guys look good
He screwed his knee doing a bycicle kick jesus ! 🤦🏾♂

Thank you for having me on your channel.
As someone who was greatly entertained by your work it was great to be a contributor to your channel.
I’m only sorry my mics, and my inability to work them, brought down the standard. I have fixed the sound now and I wish I had done so when I was still making videos for your channel.

I had seen a match of The Dog's before. And it was against 'The Cat' Earnest Miller.
I hadn't seen, or knew about, any of the lake and coffin business though. I guess WCW had some ideas ahead of their time.
Cat vs Dog has to be Russo's doing 100% lmao. That man was so obsessed with on-the-nose nicknames and acronyms even in WWF
I was a huge WCW mark until the end , and I've never heard of " The Dog "
I have no memory of Brian Knobbs looking like a discount store Bubba Ray Dudley either.

He's actually the conditioning coordinator for the Chicago White Sox now. His dad was a manager for MLB teams. He's been a strength coach for a few MLB teams and played minor league ball until taking a fastball to the face ending his career. Also who thought WCW pit crew was a good idea for a tag team?
