Another top tip is to loosen the filler plug first, before draining the gearbox oil. That way you won't risk having a dry gearbox with no way of refilling it, should the filler plug be impossible to get off.

Flexnes1 cheers for the great tip. I did actually loosen all 3 of the gearbox plug, filler and feed nuts first, doesn’t really say it on the video very well but I said it was to make me look strong 💪🏼😂😂.

Why would the filler plug be impossible to get off? It has to come off by any means such as applying heat, leverage, and impact etc.
@@AndyWJP Not everybody has access to a welder or even a blowtorch in their home garage. If you have to get the car to a workshop for them to loosen the plug for you, it's a whole lot easier if the car is driveable.

Another tip is to put the new transmission oil bottles in a bucket of hot water to warm the oil up...helps with filling. As already said, always remove the fill plug before the drain plug :)

Thank you so much for this series! Really takes the anxiety out of wrenching on a Ferrari yourself. Did we ever get the Part 3 to this series with the filters and other fluids? Specifically would love to see your process for flushing the cooling system completely and the importance of flushing as it relates to preventing heat exchanger failures.

Thanks, I know its a Ferrari but there are a lot of owners that want to own one and I try and show how its possible to save some money on maintenance bills. Also there are specialist tools that are very expensive so where possible I will show an alternative and give a 'budget' option instead.

Great vid by a guy that clearly knows what he's doing. You mention getting the oil warm but you made no mention of being careful near the exhaust. Surely it will get pretty hot. You didn't mention it but did you remove the undertray to get to the sump plugs?
I always recommend loosening the filler cap first, you do not want to have drained the fluids and then not be able to fill them.

I'm following your video precisely. Once I replaced the rubber o-ring on the gearbox filter, the filter became jammed and wouldn't reinsert. Should I apply gentle force to insert or put the old o-ring back on?

Hi Scott, love the channel fella. Quick question/request, I know that there are a few 360 owners who would like to follow a guide to getting the undertray off and getting the 360 on axle stands (where the stands should go). A guide would be really helpful. Hope you have a great Christmas.
I can tell that you regularly service your toys, the bolts are only as tight as you expect them to be! That's my experience also, any why I hate working on other guys's cars. It's always painful, and fire is needed to release bolts...BTW, I'll bet most guys wouldn't bother with undoing that line. Good job!
I am not so sure it was really beneficial removing that line unless there was a constant flow from his canned "air compressor" all night. The extra fluid that he collected by allowing the car to sit overnight would have probably been the same whether he left the line intact, or removed it. The key may have been just being patient and let it drain, although maybe Scott can clarify that. All things being equal, if you are doing an "annual", every year, unless you are seeing debris or moisture in the gear oil that tells you it would be beneficial to get every last drop out, then imo, it's probably not ultra important to remove that line, or even let it drain overnight. Is it a negative to do it? no. But is is really necessary? Probably also, no, but I'd base it solely on the condition of the oil that's being removed and the last time it had previously been changed. I love the videos and I will soon be tackling my timing belts based on the first video of this series! I would be interested to confirm that if the car was raised with jacks, and supported on car ramps at all for corners so that the car is still sitting on the suspension and level, that the need to lower the car for checking levels could be eliminated?

For easy filling get yourself a garden sprayer that you can pressurise with its hand pump.
Pour oil into the spray. Hose in the gearbox pump it up. Easy fill.

Where can I find the small bits like Washers and o-rings?
Regarding the torque spec for the gearbox drain plug. Is the spec for a new plug only. I find that often on my VAG cars (Audi & Lamborghini). The specs for many fasteners are Torque-to-Yield specs even though the fastener can be reused a number of times. But torquing a reused faster to original factory spec will result in damage to at least the fastener as your exhibited if not the housing that it attaches, too. Factory manuals should make mention of this.

Gasoline works quite well for cleaning those and then follow up with some soapy water in the sink. Then rinse with clean water and dry with compressed air (gently).

Really interesting to see that Ferrari seems to use very minimal filtering of fluids. Transmission fluid filter and oil filter seem very basic.
I agree on the transmission oil filter. That said I’ve never changed the gearbox or trans fluid on a car newer than 1980 and they certainly didn’t have any filter on.
As for the engine oil. That had a mesh one underneath and conventional filter up top. Seems more than normal to me.
Great vid Scott....Did you find the level took a good few minutes to settle? I think it must take a while for the oil to flow into the galleries. It would be easy to underfill the transmission if you didn't leave at least 20 mins between filling and checking final level.

I was very surprised at the extra amount that came out overnight when I left it draining

6:45 blowing air through the transaxle is a waste of time.
11:30 I really believe the car makers come up with these high torque specs so stuff will break or strip to make them more money. I’m 48 and I have never torque lug nuts to factory specs. I’ve never had a tire to come off.

Barter Fiend ha ha ha I could really do with many more tools, but a big part of what I’m showing here is my small home garage with no special equipment is capable of doing many of these jobs. If I had expensive kit it would defeat the object and put owners off thinking they need it to.
Ratarossa ..... Can you do a video .... It would be more comical than anything....just do it anyways.... Use a bike pump but rig it up so you could plug in tools you would use with the compressor.... And show all the ways you can use it to fix the ferrari
