Thank you, Lisa! This helps to give the big picture of salary vs cost of living. Here in the US we have the opposite problem, with high salaries and high expenses. Average salary is about $5000/month. But then we have taxes, deductions, health care expenses, higher education expenses, pricey groceries, transportation, and if you're lucky can still afford that $2000 average rent or mortgage. By the way, I think you have found a cool speciality in which you excel, and wish you continued success 💞

Totally misleading video!!! What matters is what you can buy with your paycheck. I can't speak for Europe, but as someone who has lived in the U.S. for 25 years (1994-2019), I can say that purchasing power in Russia is at an acceptable level. I say this taking into account the prices of housing, utilities, electricity, internet, television, cellular phone services, gasoline, city transportation, and medicine (free in Russia). They are much, much, much higher in the U.S. than in Russia. Accordingly, the price of food in the U.S. is much higher... Plus the progressive taxation is very disturbing out there...
    P. S.
According to the World Bank's statistics for 2022, Russia's GDP is in 5th place in the world and 1st in Europe in PPP (Purchasing Power Parity).

Yes, but you should realize she is a liberal (thought a moderate, less aggressive one). Liberals always spit on their countries, no matter if they are Russian liberals, Serbian liberals, Hungarian liberals... they are all the same, and they LOVE cherry picking data to prove their point, and comparing apples & oranges. I live in Serbia and I recently travelled to Russia: what surprised me a lot is groceries are 30% cheaper than in Serbia, also meals at Vkusno & Tochka (ex-McDonalds) are 30% cheaper, gasoline is literally 3x cheaper, electricity 2x, gas for home heating 6x... etc. The lowest salary advertised on the streets of St Petersburg is 63k RUB, offered by Vkusno & Tochka. According to Rosstat, average salary in Russia is 76 604 RUB, in June 2023.

Yes. I follow a lot of vloggers from Russia and what amazes me is that even outside of the two big cities people are generally well dressed, lots of folks out at restaurants and cafes, healthy looking, generally things look prosperous. Of course there are places and even whole regions which are struggling as there are in the US or UK or even Germany. Also the average Russian living space, while cozy, is far smaller than in the US. But generally Russia seems prosperous enough, especially for a country that when thru 70 years of really bad economic policies

Lisa, you're doing a little mistake here with the exchange rate.
Ruble to $ or EUR is quite volatile but the salaries and prices in Russia are not.
Also inflation in Russia is quite low, especially to the real inflation and even more so the producer price index in the collective West.
As a trader i calculated roughly 1EUR = 55 RBL for the bottom line resistance, approximately 1 : 75 as a medium support line and peaks were only short lived highs in between 109 to 150 (which doesn't count, except for trading).
So, in the long run i would calculate more closely with around 70 to archive a better result to compare instead of using that peak of 100 at the particular time.
For instance, last year most people were still calculating with 1:50 in all these videos. Since then the rate doubled but is decreasing already since a few months and probably going back to 1:70 or lower soon.
Other part is a actual purchasing power which is higher in Russia compared to Germany for apparent reasons (Russia is about 6th. in the world now).
That's because you don't take an arbitrary exchange rate to calculate this but how much your RBL can buy from your NET-income.
For instance, even for skilled work in Germany you barely earn more than 20,- EUR an hour but from that you have to deduct about 50-7ß% taxes.
Means, you're left with a meagre net-income which just about pays for your rent and groceries.
Therefore, according to each and every statistic, Germany is one of the poorest countries in Europe (including Russia).
Love your videos, watching you since before you were heading back to Russia. Perhaps because i lived in Japan for a few decades and the YT algo made fitting suggestions. :)
Keep on going, every time you're becoming more professional, especially since you moved to Moscow.
    One day i'll come over.
    Greetings from Berlin, Germany.

Nice to have a good understanding of salaries in Russia. I'm from India which is a lower middle income country, but with high prices of goods, transportation, food, services, medical. So, the lesser money Indians earn, the harder it is to live a decent life. The standard of living in India is overall lower compared to Russia. So, even if an average Russian is earning less, he/she might able to live a better life compared to Indians, because of the other costs that may not bite into too much into their savings. Pardon me for this analogy.

I was listening to a mixed nationality economic site (American Indian Franco-Russian) who were focusing on your region in particular following the recent forum in Vladivostok. They were enthusiastic about the intentions voiced and I would say that you are going to be living in one of the next growth hubs. As for wages, what you don't appreciate is that housing costs a fortune and local services and taxes take huge slices of any wage you see advertised in the west. 2 people can afford to have a child but it is a struggle which is why fewer people can marry. As housing costs spiral the ability to export anything diminishes, just basic economics. Nobody in my country could afford a Dacha apart from a tiny minority. The economics are totally different and extremely difficult to compare. My litre is £1.50 and rising. I can't tell you what I paid for natural gas last year as it would not be believed. In Russia Vladivostok it is the price 0,2 dollars, in Mudanjiang, China is the price 0,15 dollars. In Sweden we pay 1,5 dollar for 1 kg potatoes. There is something going wrong in the world while rich people make more money to make us people avoid eachother. or even direspect eachother.. I really like your videos who shows the reality. Thank You very much.

In Kenya it's about $0.4 which is shockingly high with an average gdp per capita of $2000. Russia is about 30-50% cheaper! Electricity is 2 times more expensive than in the USA for commercial users and school fees are about $500 a year. I actually don't know how people survive but stories going around is that people are now eating one meal a day.

I see. Many Americans have no idea about salaries and cost of living plus standards they are accustomed in the USA. I loved and worked in the UK and Italy. Salaries are very low in Italy. 25 to 30,000 Euros are both considered good wages. Many things are lower like food etc. Apartments can be cheap in Italy but depending on the place they are not what most Americans are used to or sadly our low income people here in the USA have places that are standard too to the USA that people abroad would say nice. The UK a great salary was 40,000 pounds. London the average person makes after taxes 3600 dollars a month. I don’t know how they live on that. Manhattan after taxes 6000 to 7000 a month. I felt things were expensive. Transportation etc. Living accommodations. It can be cheaper in house shares living with up to 3 to 6 other people. I wanted to get my own place. Not in London. Today it would be 1000 pounds a month. Square footage was 400 square feet. That’s considered normal. People thought how great and go live alone. They have American standard apartments and I looked for one bedroom all over county small towns to London new style with square footage 600 to 800 square feet. 1600 to 1800 2000 pounds a month. They looked nice. They are like apartments I live in now. No dryer. Most apartments I get I look for washer and dryer. Let you know. I like living abroad! You must budget on regular jobs! It can be done but most Americans are used to spending so much on ridiculous things. Sorry you don’t need!!!! Wasting thousands of dollars!! I was grounded from Europe that I don’t need many thing’s many Americans can’t live with out even Americans living in low income housing. They demand more too. Poor in Europe get basics I think many of our poor would not like. Vacation? Outdated information in Europe. I know many Americans getting there first jobs negotiating time off in NY NJ and elsewhere. They are getting 4 weeks or 3 is low after 6 months but they get public and federal holidays. Years ago people full time got 2 weeks not counting public or federal holidays. . But after a few years it turns to 3. Most Americans after 10 years get 4. My dad when he retired from Time Warner got 6 weeks at 58 years old retiring. The only people I know who retire at 55 are teachers public sector jobs. Post office workers cops firemen. In the USA average salaries are 70000 a year. After taxes like 4500 to 5000 a month maybe Rent one bedroom is 2000 a month to 2500 in NY NJ areas and Florida now too. Texas I know is much cheaper. Years ago they said people early mortgage payments and apartments payments should only be 1/4 of your salary per month. Some people used to but the past few years some lower ended salary people it’s half their salary or even 60 percent. Europe I feel bad it’s the way they make people live. US too now. Younger and older people demanding benefits from jobs, sadly some companies now recruit people from overseas because they are not so demanding. Liberalizing people at the work place many corporations the past 20 to 25 years get people overseas now because they don’t demand the benefits. Corporations hate when Americans and European workers demanding perks with the jobs like in the 80s 90s. 2000s they cut back. Because they gave many people perks and other corporations let go of so many American workers because they cost to much to hire now. My friends married with children don’t know how I live making under 100,000 a year. American way now people spend 25000 to 50,000 a year on one kid at least. They made it an industry and so many kids here became accustomed to it. Sports and some private schools vacations tutoring clothes music lessons and so much more. Not a used car when they graduate from high school. Parents go into debt to get them a new car saying it won’t break down. Europeans don’t think like this.

Bear in mind these salaries are per month. She doesn't mention the taxes, there's a lot of misunderstandings about Russian taxes because "it's only 10%!" (although I think it was raised last year, not sure of the current rate). It's a flat tax (actually there is an upper rate of 12% now but hardly anyone earns enough) but it's a flat 10%, there's no personal exemption like you usually get in most income tax systems, certainly in western countries. So if you're earning very little, you're still paying 10%. And payroll taxes in Russia are eye-popping, 30%, but it's all paid by the employer, it's not split with the employee like it is in most countries, but it means you're going to get a lower salary. Russia does have low taxes on self-employed people to encourage compliance, which obviously also encourages people to be self-employed. The actual rate varies based on the region but it's usually only a few percent. Do not buy into this "Russia has low taxes" nonsense. 10% may not sound like much compared to what you are paying in your country, but look at how low the salaries are. If you were earning $10,000, you might not be paying any income tax at all, but a Russian is paying 10%. Also, Russia has 20% VAT which is comparable to most European countries. The one statistic that blew my mind a couple of years ago is that 98% of Russians earn less than 1.5 million rubles per year.

    • @bazarkin-pubg
      @bazarkin-pubg Před 5 měsíci

Russians do not pay tax at all, their employer does it for them. Salaries are indicated taking into account the tax paid, as well as prices in the store. In Russia, no one even knows what tax they pay for him, he receives a salary and spends it on his needs. Medicine and education are free. Expenses in Russia are about 4 times lower than in the USA. $ 1000 in Russia is comparable to $ 4000 in the USA (salary of $ 6000 including taxes). If your salary in Russia is more than 1.5 million rubles a year, then most likely you live in a two-story mansion, you have 3 cars and a personal maid)))
