  • If the tools put in a box makes it into a tool box perhaps the hinges lid on its top makes it into a tool chest? I don’t know. If English is your mother tongue please comment below and tell me if I got or right or wrong… or where in between.
Thids is a video about how I made the lid for the Mästermyr tool chest. I did it with the tools made in previous videos and even the cavity inside the lid turned out to be possible using those. I wanted the lid to be thick enough to sit on and to get a rounded top for water to pour off but also thin enough not to bend as it dries. Placing the roundness of the grain like this with its belly downwards is the first trick. That way, if it bends, it will bend increasing the radius rather then making it disappear. Rounded grain allways tries to straighten itself out. The second trich is to make the steel hinges long enough to cover more than half the board, preferably two thirds. And the third trick is to ensure the hinges have many nails over its whole length and is tightly fitted to the wood. The last and finest fitting I made by simply heating the metal letting it burn into the wood. I could have carved more carefully but this method is more awesome.
