Nice. My daily ride is a 1982 FXB I got 3 years ago. It's stock original except for tanks, carb and pipes. It had aftermarket tanks which I replaced with original paint tanks from a 1981 Sturgis, and still has the brass "buyback" fender emblem. The original pipes had the crossover tube removed and rewelded. It had the original buckhorns, which Harley went to after they phased out the drag bars. To me, the ultimate Harley was the original FXS Low Rider and the Sturgis was the ultimate Low Rider. What always defined the Low Rider and Sturgis were the drag bars, 3.5 fatbobs, mag wheels, and the 2-1 exhaust which gave the bikes an aggressive chesty stance like a pit bull. Harley lost that distinct look when they dropped the drags and 2-1. With buckhorns and duals, the Low Rider and Sturgis models looked like just another Fat Bob Super Glide. So I wanted to recapture the presence of the original FXB and FXS with my 82 and just scored a nice original 2-1 exhaust off a 1980 Super Glide. I really love the AMF era bikes. That Sturgis you worked on has the later tank decals from the 1991 FXDB Sturgis (which introduced the Dyna frame). Also, a lot of the primary noise comes from the clunk of the original compensating sprocket that used rubber dampers to reduce vibration. NOS dampers are hard to find and I replaced my original compensating sprocket with a solid pulley from Karata. That bike sounds great. Really nice to see another Sturgis going strong.

Glad to hear there are more of these bikes out there, being used! I like the rake of these bikes, its a pretty sporty look for the time, a little edgy, reminiscent of the chopper era. Thanks for sharing.

I have a 81 and a 82 Sturgis. The 82 is brown with the buckhorns and the buy-back emblem. Both are very close to stock (the 82 is stock but with saddlebags). Original ham-cans, carbs, pipes. The 81 has a different tank decal (I guess the AMF didnt go over too well with a previous owner) and an aftermarket ignition, but is stock otherwise. I love the stance of the 81 with the low dragbar, love the handling. The 81 has the original factory belt still in it. Now done 16000 miles, 2000 of which were last years. i have tried more modern Harleys but nothing comes close to the FXB's.

Those Sturgis models definitely have a nice look to them. More aggressive rake to the front forks and skinny rim out front make a big difference! Sort of a factory chooper look. This one came with the ram horn bars, black vented primary, black ceramic exhaust, bread box air cleaner plus cv carb, and also bags! Original owner stil has these parts, since he was the one to change them! Pretty cool piece of history, I always love all things Sturgis.

Not original paint 81 and 80 were black. 82 model were either black and brown with gold pinstripe or even rarer is silver and black with red pinstripe plus the decal is from a 90s sturgis dyna glide. Otherwise its in pretty decent shape and the 82 fender emblem is rare as hensteeth. Still a good survivor.

1982s were also black and orange. Ive had mine since 1984. I bought it 100% stock and through the years Ive modded it. and I love it. I was 23 years old and took a dual disc wide glide and installed a rear 16" rear Sturgis rim on the front, made my own lowereing blocks for the back, installed a 150 mph speedo, installed 5 gallon tanks, a bobbed rear fender. Andrews B grind, Jims lifters and blocks, dual plugged, ported heads. Its fast, it revs and its like the big boy Sturgis. It all looks like it did from the factory but way beefier. I did keep every piece and part from it. Those stickers on the tank are from the Evo Sturgis's from 1991. The 1981 said AFT attached to the HD sticker. 1982 just had the HD sticker. oh and the ornge on the rims are the exact match of Chevy engine orange. I had to repaint the 16" rim inset on front. thats also some trivia. Sturgis's are the only oneswwith a flat bead with the grooves.
