I remember lusting after a Sturgis back as a teenager, and boy do I wish I had bought myself one. Great machine, and good luck to the new owner....and I may be English but agree totally..."God bless America".

Love it!!! The bike I lusted over when new at Harley-Davidson Sales on the Berlin Tpke…I was short of coin so I bought a stock used ‘79 FXEF there from Sal. Modded it to dual belt drives and a laundry list of other mods. Docs just finished my ‘76 FXE so I’m running an (updated & completely rebuilt) shovel again with my other 2 - HD’s an ‘07 XL1200R & ‘09 Ultra Classic. I will ride it over this year to see New England MC museum & Kaplan’s shop. Nothing sounds like a Shovel. Glad he loves these old bikes like I do!

My friends dad had one of those sittin in a shed for a couple years. He worked on it for someone and they didnt pay.....to the shed it went. My and my biddy use to sneak in the shed and play on it.
Side note.....my friends dad had a 45 knuckle chopper. One day we werw in the garage and my friend was climbing on and off the bike. As he was getting on it one of the times the oick stand broke !!!!!! I about crapped my pants. His dad was 6'2" 280lbs mean ass as hell biker dude. Luckily he was at work. My friend, 9 years old and maybe 80lbs was doing his best to hold the bike up.....screaming for his mom. I was froze, i knew he was dead. His mom came out and leaned it up against the wall, smacked me in the head, beat the daylights out of him and threw me out of the garage.
    Ahhhh the memories!!!!

When looking for my first Harley in Omaha, it was between the Sturgis and the FXEF Super Glide. I picked the Super Glide because I didn't think the belt was going to last. Boy, was I a dumb ass!

Got a 81 and a 82, both very close to stock... much nicer bikes than the current M8's, as far as I am concerned...

Get that filter of the crank vent hose. When that gets saturated it will fly all over the tire and oil on tire is not good 😩 most guys just rout the hose to drip on the chain every now & then but since it’s got a belt maybe rout it over to the right side of the bike. The hose originally went to the air filter

My 1st bike. Kinda new what i had but i didnt. I was 18. Rode the hell out of it but pushed it home to many times. Got frustrated and sold it. I regret it every time i think about it. Live and learn the hard way sometimes.

  • @thomasmotorcycleman1175

I have an 81 sturgis . my oldest of my 16 bikes, mostly Harley's and buells. I bought it new..19yrs old..I was digging the blacked out look, new for the time...it has approximately 60k milles..90% stock. has been very good to me, especially considering I do almost no matinance ...since I now have 16 bikes.it gets ridden a couple times a month..it is my soulmate of the 16...I also have a 91, 90% stock...probably more rare?..not as praised...after ten or 20 years from now my son should be able to get a pretty penny for the 2 together?!...after I'm done enjoying them for the next decade or so......ride

Beautiful bike but it isn't stock, forward controls were not stock, exhaust was chrome and the leather pouch mounted to the sissy bar is missing.

Was the 1982 HD sturgis made during the AMF years at Harley Davidson? I saw the AMF decal on the tank in video, my 1982 does not have AMF decal. I am the one and only owner of the bike and it has never had an AMF decal. Can't remember when AMF and Harley Davidson parted ways.

This may be a very reputable shop; I have no idea as to this dealer's reputation. However, I do know to steer clear of dealers who oversell their products - "absolutely," "completely" this, "showroom" that. Believe nothing... only trust a direct observation and when a seller talks like this, it's a red flag.
