Lots of good advice; However, most people can't afford or don't have a 300 / 2.8 or 400 / 2.8. Also a lot of people shooting at local hockey rinks can't use your settings as they don't have NHL lighting.

usually they let you take pictures anywhere. i do photography at my rink and they let me go everywhere. as long as they see you have a camera they let you through

Whats the rest of the settings you use? Like White balance, AF points (IE: Zone AF, Large Zone AF, etc), Metering mode (Spot or evaluative etc), and any other settings i might have missed? Whats the slowest shutter you would use for any hockey game? I shoot the mudbugs here in my hometown in louisiana and i shoot with a canon 5d mark iv and a canon 70-200 f2.8 lens.

Depends on the lighting in your rink. White balance doesn't matter if you are shooting raw (which you should be). AF settings will depend on the camera you use. Metering should be evaluative though if the lighting is consistent, use M and find a good exposure yourself. Spot will be fooled by different jerseys (a black jersey will result in an overexposed image usually with a slow shutter). I'd say aim for 1/1000s min shutter if it all possible. 1/800 would probably be OK for some situations.
