Would you like to see a "When Was Pelé in his Prime?" video!?

    • @empessoa3280
      @empessoa3280 Před 10 měsíci +1

Of course, please. Bring the King Pelé in his prime.
Rivelino tried but couldn't find anything to make fun of Pelé. He looked for some weakness in the King to make a joke. However, he had to settle with reality. And according to Rivelino's own words, the reality was: "Pelé did everything in football very well. He headed well, kicked well with his right leg, easily kicked with his left, dribbled well, passed well, was strong, defended, he was complete. There was no negative point I could mention."
So, not having anything to say about the King, Rivelino went up to Pelé himself and said, "Hey, bro, you wanted to be left-handed, didn't you?" Haha.
In this video, Rivelino gets emotional when talking about Pelé.
      czcams.com/video/3Db6ju8mFDo/video.html
The 1970 Brazil team had fantastic stars from midfield to the front in their starting lineup. They were Gerson, Rivelino, Jairzinho, Pelé, and Tostão. In this video, Rivelino reminisces about plays that Pelé made on the field that these stars couldn't see. In other words, Pelé's thinking was different from the other stars. To summarize, Rivelino comments something like this in a part of the video: "I wasn't stupid, Gerson wasn't stupid, Tostão wasn't stupid, yet Pelé was light-years ahead of us."

Rivellino is still an icon in Saudi Arabia. One of the first international stars who made their way into the Saudi League. Many Al Hilal players have anecdotes about his work ethic, wherein they would feel ashamed to be head home after training to see Revillino: A World Champion in the twilight of his career, with nothing left to prove and far more skilled and experienced that anyone in the league, still out practicing free kicks well into the night. His influence (as well as Mario Zagallo's tenure as Saudi Coach from 1981 to 1984) imparted a Brazilian flair to Saudi Arabia's golden age from their 1984 AFC Asian Cup win till their triumphant 1994 World Cup Appearance.

I traveled 13,000 km (8,000 miles) by train in and through 25 US states in 30 days (plus 6 flights and 12 more days before and after the 1994 World Cup in L.A. and NYC) to follow my team, Sweden. I saw our future bronze medal winners beat Saudi Arabia outside Dallas in the 1/8 final at the Cotton Bowl, 3-1 (and I had my first ever chili cheese ball, homemade...you had to buy one to buy a mug of beer at 5 bucks or whatever, and I juz loved those little spicy things that you nowadays can get at any Burger King or that other famous burger chain...).
Afterwards, I changed tshirts with one of a whole group of Saudi college student at a motel. They were all very proud of their team, despite the loss. They probably got even prouder watching us take our first medal (beating Bulgaria, 4-1, in the bronze game) since we lost the 1958 final back home in Stockholm between Sweden and Brazil, who never had won before. But in Stockholm 1958 (before my time) they did for the first time, 5-2 despite a 1-0 lead for us after 5 minutes...

As a kid growing up in the 70s & 80s, the Brazil teams that I started off watching (the 1978 World Cup is the first one I watched) were mesmerising to me. Those players from the late 70s - early 80s were probably my favourite Brazilians ever, and Rivellino is probably top of my list......But others such as Zico, Eder, and Dirceu made that era of Brazil sides the best for me.
Historically, they always my second team in the World Cups whenever England got knocked out, these days I don't enjoy watching them at all 😆

The Samba football died the day Italy knocked Brazil out of the 82 World Cup. Magicians like Eder, Socrates and Zico replaced with cloggers like Dunga. They have been no fun to watch ever since.

@@garethjenkins6273 I totally agree with you mate. I used to love watching them play, but nowadays I refuse to watch them....especially the divers like Neymar. He probably wouldn't make the early 80s team.

@@garethjenkins6273 I certainly agree about Samba dying out after '82...The zeal still remained though, in '86. Problem is: Brazil for some reason was producing less and less geniuses and having more pragmatic European-style coaching didn't help matters much...I was in complete shock when Paolo Rossi scored those hat trick goals, haunting me for years to come. Much later i was convinced the football world had lost much of its magic.

Tqvm for the video. There were so many great Brazilians like the Santos brothers, Pele of course, Didi, Gilmar, 'little bird' Garrincha, Tostao, Jairzinho, Gerson, Carlos Alberto, the Zico, Eder, Marinho,...to Romario, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo. The list is endless. But if I had to pick one as a fan, I would plump on Roberto Rivelino, the most combative and creative midfielder any time, any where. Used to search for bits and scraps of news of him in the early 70s. It would be nice to have some updates of him now.

His name was all over the streets of Algeirs
I was 8, and I found his looks impressive .
Thank your for honoring this great athlete.
His hot trick was later picked up by an Algerian international player called Assad, he used it against German defense in 1982 .
The trick was dubbed in Algeria " Assad's dipper "
and no one has ( dared) to attributed it to Revilino.
    Thank you for revealing it.

Excellent video. Rivellino, Tostão, Gérson, Jairzinho, Dirceu Lopes, Ademir da Guia and him, his majesty, the king Pelé. All hyper-talented midfielders playing at the same time in top Brazilian clubs, during the second half of the 60’s and first half of the 70’s. If they played today, all these players would be total protagonists in top European teams. No wonder that, in a space of 12 years, between 1958 and 1970, Brazil won 3 World Cups. This is proof that, in those days, the best football in the world was played in Brazil, by Brazilian players.

I loved watching that 1970 Brazil team live at that fantastic world cup as a child in Primary school. Rivellino was a reserve to Edu who played alongside Pele at Santos. However, Rivellino was the best Dribbler in a team of world-class dribblers and had to be included in that Awesome team. They had 5 Number 10s in Pele, Tostao, Jairzinho, Gerson, and Rivellino, who all sacrificed to become a complete and dominant team. The one-touch passing in that team was off the chart, and they scored 19 goals in 6 games with 7 players scoring at least one goal.
Rivellino was overnight everyone's favorite player because of his lethal Left Foot shot.
