This is the best Ridge Racer
It's 2018 and I still feel the most wonderful nostalgia hearing this. Good old times: you only had to turn on the PS1 and play. No DLC, no profiles, no internet. Not that these things are bad, but I think they transformed gaming into something complicated. I just miss the simpleness of that age.
how empty and focused your mind was as a kid, playing this videogame fully immersed without a single distraction, no internet/social media/ societal expectations, just you , a tv screen and joy

I never realised just how much effort Namco pit into the soundtrack for this game until now. I remember the Ridge Racer series having a good soundtrack but not this good. Just goes to show how much a good soundtrack is underappreciated when a kid.

It's still really nice in 2023 :) If you know about electronic music producing a little, you should understand how awesome these artists have done 25 years ago. Analogue synthesizers, drum machines, hand played basslines, hardware samplers and vocal clips etc.
If any EDM artist released these songs today he would get mad ratings still

The PS1 was my first console and this game was one of the first racing games I played. Man, this music... Still listening in 2019. Here's for many more years.
The same for me, PS1 is also my first console. Still playing R4 today via ePSXe emulator on both my Windows PC and Android phone.

Don't think i realised quite the Musicality and Production in these tracks when i was a child. Good thing i remembered this game earlier today and checked this out.
Excellent racer, man i spent hour upon hour playing this game back in the day, beating it with each team and watching their story unfold. honstly ive never been a huge racing game fan, but i still loved this game to death, something about it made it so fun to play. No doubt the music was definitely part of what made it so special.
totally agree, never has a racing game been more enthralling and addictive. The stories of each team really cut deep in my skin as a child.
One of the best video game soundtracks of all time. Suits the overall game design perfectly, and listening to it separately, it not only conjures imagery and memories of RR4, but of many other games from that era. Truly a definitive soundtrack on the PlayStation 1.
I loved this soundtrack back then growing up, and the game. This will always be close to my heart since I was in high school also and I used to invite friends over to play splitscreen. I still play it to this day

hell yes damm awesome game soundtrack, i love ridge racer type 4. magic music, and one fucking awesome ps1 racing game. still have this game today a huge favourite of mine.
The nostalgia flows through my hair, lucid rhythms got this silhouette dance parading in my pearl blue soul, but the quiet curves always move me while this revlimit funk is just part of my motor species; the naked glow in my eyes signifies the objective in my mind and I'm burnin' rubber as I move right thru in the ride of my life. For you this might be garage talk, but for those who can feel my vibe, they understand these are the precious urban fragments of a time I wish to go back to like movin' in circles, but I guess I have to turn the page since I'm ready to roll. There is no epilogue now, there's just one more win!

A game ahead of its time! 1998-1999 were great years...
(I can see some similarity between R4 music and Ace Combat 3 electrosphere soundtrack and found out pretty much the composers were the same)
I remember an option in the game to just listen to the sound track. I did this more than playing the game. Miss my PS1 😢

I remember buying the cd import on eBay in like 03, it was a double disc set. I still own that $hit! Silhovette dance or lucid rhythms are the best songs hand down.

Loved this soundtrack. It fits the game so perfectly and it is also nice to keep in the background if one is doing some activity.
The last track that played during the final stage is still an earworm to this day, I remembered it clearly even before listening to it again here.
2018 and soundtrack still keeps me on my toes.

I really wish they had stuck with whoever did the music in Rage Racer, I still play almost that entire soundtrack in my care, Especially Rage Racer.
Always love in-game OST because it's longer than the Direct Audio album OST.
The Objective is definitely my #1 favourite. That feeling when racing against Terrazi Utopia while playing that tune is priceless. ❤️

I have memories of playing this as a kid and enjoying the music. Of course back then I didn't really care about it, didn't really think about it. But one thing is clear, I always enjoyed playing with these relaxing songs in the background.
