Same age. This soundtrack takes me back to the first time I've played this game. Just to put into context I had a Mega Drive (Genesis) at the time and my friend called me to say he had bought the Super NES and had Super Mario World and F-Zero and that F-Zero was insane. I immediately went to his house and we started playing F-Zero and those Mode 7 graphics just BLEW ME AWAY! We spent hours playing it. Then I somehow convinced my dad I also needed a Super NES so I was lucky to have both 16-bit consoles which was great because games were very different on each platform (not like today as games are the same on Playstation and Xbox). Anyway, fast forward all these years and F-Zero is still one of my favorite racing games ever made. I regularly play it on Retroarch. Great memories of a time that sadly will never return. No internet. Just magazines with info about new consoles and games. Rental stores and games in cartridges with no 'day one patches'. Amazing.

I blast this shit in my truck driving around town with my son, we jam hard and I love the confused looks I get from other people on the road. @@keineahnungabervieldavon no joke. Im 42 and ever since I was a kid playing this game, I loved the Mute City song so much, I would sing it whilst riding my bike. When I got my driver’s license, I had a taped version I would play on cassette and haul ass to.
I always told myself I would be successful and knew I “made it” if I could travel to Europe to buy a sportscar, drive it to Mute City on the Autobahn, and then have the car shipped back to California. I could technically do his today, but I don’t think the wife would understand the near 6 figure “investment” into a European made vehicle.
So jealous of you! Next time you drive it to Mute City, give ur ole’ buddy here @Adolfo a shout out. I would greatly appreciate it.

This and F Zero X are the greatest soundtracks in video game history.
I love OG F-Zero’s soundtrack enough that it gets revisited often, but Streets of Rage 2 is my all time top!

Over 25 years later and this still gives me chills. How the composers managed so much intensity in their arrangements while maintaining such simplicity is beyond me.

I remember playing this game when I was a kid growing up. I was about 12 years old (I'm almost 39 years old today) now my 9 year old son plays it together with me 🙏🏽☮️❤️
It's incredible to think how absolutely clear some of these memories can be. I too remember the immense joy and enthusiasm I had with this game back then (I'm also 39 years old, btw). It's just that I got to play it maybe a little earlier, just after its release. Mute city immediately made me a fan for life. I just couldn't believe the magic spell this game could cast on us. Phenomenal music and design.

i remember playing this game as a kid and imagining, when iam a grown-up, i would be driving around with such cars. i was almost terrified and hyped at the same time. now 30 years later, we still have cars with wheels. why is the future so lame and not as cool as f-zero?

Man, what a proof of concept this was for this console allowing racing game tracks to be more complex than the previous Outrun/Rad Racer-type stuff. I honestly held off getting into SMK for a bit because the OG F-Zero just as it was in 1-player was so fast and exhilarating.
Red Canyon FTW. Remember right before a match you would take one last drink and have one last Cheezit because shit's about to get real and you need to concentrate. Remember having to concentrate on a game? Telling everyone to be quiet so you can focus on having pinpoint precision and timing? And your spectators would sit behind you or on your bed quietly watching you.
+Vic Vinegar Agree video games today are a lot easier and the mechanics to play them are imo less challenging and fun.
***** I love big AAA cinematic games of today obviously, but there's something special about old games. Back in the day they didn't have much to work with in terms of computing power so they did the best with what they had. Many times difficulty was worked into the game because it gave us a rush when playing. Nowadays we have cutscenes, high tempo first person gameplay, etc. to give us a rush.

Vic Vinegar Yes, they're a lot of fun. I spent months beating all of the time trials on "Donkey Kong Country Returns," and although it was often frustrating, the feeling when I finally got the best medal on a stage was worth the trouble. Doing the same on "Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze" would have taken months, but I was on vacation for part of the time, so it didn't take as long.
As a 37 years old man, I had the privilege and luck to play NES, SNES and N64 back then... I can say for sure nothing beats or even comes close to SNES era... yeah NES is great and all, but due of its limitations and the fact that even having so many great games, it also has a lot of mediocre/forgettable games... N64 was such a culture and technology change, but again, has a very limited number of really good games, those that are good are pure masterpieces though... but SNES man, oh boy! It was the era were game companies and devs really put the effort on creating fun, challenging, memorable games, amazing music, stories, pinnacle of 2D graphics

You should get Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Switch.
comparing mario kart to F zero to me feels like comparing a skill focused streak of lightning and a half retarded snail with a dice glued onto it. The lightning is faster, and cooler.
Maybe if you played Mario Kart 8 Deluxe you'd see there are two tracks dedicated to two race tracks from F-Zero. Even the FX and background music emulate the feeling of playing F-Zero. And if you think driving karts is lame and unskilled, you should try driving 200cc. I'm willing to bet you'd spend over 40 hours a week in your parent's basement just to get a bronze finish.
EHH, I split with my buddy to get a wii U that came with MK8 deluxe I haven't gotten gold medal on the zelda cup on 200cc yet, its the only one I have left to gold. It's just not as good. I like the music in MK8 big blue more than the actual race track. It's an ok party game if you're drunk.
When you play the game and feel you are discovering one of the most incredible OST of all time, then you hear the Fire Field theme for the first time...GOAT! 20:15 eargasm
Funny thing is I only bought this game because it was $40 and I couldn't afford a newer game like Chrono Trigger. Turned out to be wayyyy better than I thought. Every music track on this game is memorable and the racing is so f'in fast.

Although I had a SNES growing up, I never played F-zero because it seemed to "fast" and "hard to control".
A couple of decades later, and oh man! F-zero 99, although not a spiritual remake of F-zero, introduced me to this great OST!
That lead drop in Fire Field goes so hard at 20:14... that composer went buckwild! So sick...

SNES F-ZERO OST, SNES StreetFighter2 OST…… it was pure music from geniuses…
I’m 41 yo, composing electronic music with a lot of different synthesizers etc. and trust me, these OST are truly mind blowing… Each track are bangers you can remember it your whole life while console’s synthesizers were pretty limited!!!!
For people who don’t know, each console has a true synthesizer inside, who generate sounds FROM SCRATCH, exactly like keyboard synths.
More precisely, they are creating sounds from an electric signal who has very basic form : square, triangle, sine wave, shark teeth etc (you know these curves we see on an oscilloscope)
First the synth generates this basic sound and then you program how it will transform this signal into all BackGroundMusics and SoundEffects we all love ❤️

Hello to anyone who is discovering this music for the first time through F-Zero 99.
Gah... I was in a video game competition at a rental store (that was a thing lol) that had the Super Famicom and this plus SMW set up. Was so fucking cool. SNES still my favorite after all these decades.

Born 1998, Grandparents had a SNES in the basement with Super Mario World, FZero and some basketball games. My childhood.
Always loved how classy this OST was. The others are great and all, but it's all about the jazz results screen, the smooth records list, synth keys with woodwind melodies. It isn't just a big techno fest, or metal thrashing. It isn't afraid to throw a lead guitar solo alongside a church organ. Its bass and percussion first presentation is also something Nintendo rarely ever did again and I miss it dearly.
I remember when my parents gave me this game back in 97 being just 7 years old . I was the happiest kid ever. Love F-Zero.

22:13 One thing I really love about the SNES game soundtracks, there are many tracks with such a smooth, groovy walking bass.
Decades later, I think that was one reason why I developed an interest for Japanese fusion jazz, which then lead me to jazz.

Always enjoyed the music to this game growing up, but it wasn't until I got older and became a musician that I appreciated them even more. The basslines in some of the songs, especially Big Blue and Silence are beyond phenomenal. They remind me a lot of Billy Sheehan bass lines from Mr. Big/David Lee Roth/The Winery Dogs.I could listen to these songs for days and never get tired of them.
Don't forget the bass lines on Sand Ocean too! That track always chilled me out in my beginner years(now I'm a standard witness of adulthood lol)
The first racing game I became obsessed with. F-Zero still holds a special place in my heart to this day.
"Silence" is my personal favorite on this soundtrack. Overall, this is insanely enjoyable and brings back so many awesome memories.

This gives me so much memories of playing john tanaka on all the famous tracks just zooming past my opponents, those days will never be forgotten, the f-zero franchise is truly gold, my personal favorite track was fire field on king cup, truly the best days of my life.
The intro to Mute City still gives me chills!!

Try F-zero 99 is surprising good and fun game.
The real reason this is impressive is that this was pretty much before the era of music editing software. You had to be as much a computer scientist as a composer to make this sort of thing back then.
This game is remarkable. A real good reason to own a SNES at that time.

Some very complex compositions here. Right up there with DKC 2, FF6 and Super Castlevania 4. Love this ost, its pure genius.
Such as Turtles in Time, Actraiser series, Mario RPG, Seiken series (a lot of the big JRPG TBH), Zelda, Metroid 3, Rockman X series...so many of them, even if I think Chrono Trigger OST comes itself from another planet :)
Played this game for the first time in 1992 on my SNES!! Amazing game and amazing soundtrack! One of the best racing games of all time. Arcade quality super fast scrolling amazed us kids & teens in 1992, yay! :)

Te entiendo hermano, cuando era niña yo quedé como Wow tremendo soundtrack, y más la pista en si diré field fue una sorpresa para mí, ya que solo veía pistas enumeradas, es decir Mute city 1, 2, 3 pero veo Diré field y me daban más ganas de pelear el primer puesto, aparte que la pista era la más difícil del juego... Imagínate.

Loved my childhood. I’m so thankful to have grown up in the 1980s and 1990s.
Port Town Aero Drive is an underrated song in my opinion. While later games opted to integrate it into the "everything is a crazy fast and complex rock song", in this game it was a more chill song, with a soothing trumpet and bass melody and a quick yet not overpowering drumline. Really made a nice "feeling" of high paced driving on a nice coast-side racetrack.
Still have my SNES!!! This was the first racing game I really fell in love with… music was a part of it!

I still play this on the Wii U! My kids watch me but they would rather play Mario Kart. My favorite car is the green one, I blow up too easily with the other ones. And yes, I have fond memories of getting a SNES for Christmas and playing this game on a big screen CRT.
Phenomenal OST. As a child, my cousin and I would try our best to beat this game, but couldn't handle the intensifying race of the 26th century!
I give Fire Field credits for being the first racing track in my life that made me worry about surviving the round instead of being first. But still far more enjoyable than Silence - who thought it would be a cool idea to have orthogonal curves in a racing game?

One of my favorite games back in the SNES days. The OST was amazing. Hard to pick a favorite but might be Port Town, Silence, Inferno, and Sand Ocean. And the rest of them. How bout just the whole thing. BTW it was awesome that they rearranged the theme from White Land for White Land II instead of just using the song again. A cool "remix."
I suppose this message may never receive my friendly youtuber, but your work is extremely gratifying. Vgm , especially snes hAs totally redefined what is possible and acceptable, I will never go without the perfection of my youth again. My most powerful gratitude.
