- Exploring the local trails around the Peak District, Matt Stephens joined Phoebe Sneddon for a gravel adventure. The pair tackled a range of terrain, from steep climbs and hike-a-bike sections to technical descents and scenic vistas.
Taking on a 68km route, Matt and Phoebe rode Specialized Diverge Gravel Bikes and used Garmin Edge 840 GPS Cycling Computers to navigate.

More of these routes round the Peaks please 🙏🏻
This is a great series. Great character with those two!
I always get excited when I see Matt is on another Sigma video!
Nice one Matt and Phoebe seems like such a lovely person. 👍😊
Thanks Steve. Hope you enjoyed the video!
absolutely love these cafe rides with Matt, what a legend!
Love Phoebe too, she seems super nice and down to earth, great laugh also!
Another enjoyable jaunt with Matt and guest. When's the next Cafe Ride video coming out? It's been too long since the last one.
Watch this space, we will have more news soon on the Cafe Ride series 👌
Watched the video yesterday. Great stuff. Rode the route today. Bloody brilliant. Loved every second of it. Phoebe’s local knowledge and route planning is fantastic. Thanks.
Thanks Stephen and glad you had fun on the route. We will pass this feedback onto Phoebe for sure 👍
Great route from Phoebe, did it this weekend with a few mates. Not one to be underestimated, plan for a good half day.
some of the best cycle roads i have ever ridden go, exactly like here, along the repurposed railway lines. Gentle incline intended for trains and calm cycle lanes. Match made in heaven.
I am new to cycling and stunned by the cycle routes available along canals, rivers and train lines around south and east leeds
Absolutely love these cafe rides. I did some mtb and road riding in the Peak District and i cannot wait to hit this route next time im there
Another great video keep them coming Sigma👍👍
This video sums up why I love gravel riding!
Thanks Neil. It was a blast to film it!
Cracking once again everyone.
Great entertaining video Matts absolute legend.
Thanks Shaun!
cheers matt and phoebe i need to get back up to Derbyshire and enjoy the gravel rides again .
Always have valve caps on all my bikes. They also double as valve core removers
Another brilliant Sigma video! I need a gravel bike now!
Thanks Rich. We're happy to help with that gravel bike search if needed 🙂
Another great Video from you guys 😎
Thanks Dave!
I have just mapped this route out to ride myself when the weather improves a bit
Great video and I will be taking fig rolls!
Good choice of nutrition!
Valve caps, always. I have a Schrader adapter on one valve, just in case.
Hi, great video, just wondering what Phoebe had in the hip flask?
That was fun.
Great to Matt off road ... Always think Matt CX bike + GCN! 😂 ... Any way leaving in Derbyshire not bumped into you on bike or heard of anyone... Chris Brailford yes or are riding else were?
Inspired me to go do the route.
Loved this! Now I want a jammie
And a Snickers, surely!?
@@sigmasports Surely!
Knobbie bits?? Never use them. I used to ride with a Schrader/presta adapter many years ago on the valve stem. However I carry that now on the extra end of the Campy front derailleur which is the same thread. I did cyclo-cross with Barum tires for many years and never had problems. Now I ride a heavy slow fatbike and smell the roses. Have fun, be safe, keep riding.
Any chance you could post a Strava route or .gpx fike?
it is already in the video description
Hi Dominic, we have pinned the route to the comments section. Enjoy!
I agree with Matt, there is no better biscuit than a jammy dodger.
Saw Matt at the stone circle, can not wait for the video
I do exactly that with valve caps , just on the off road bikes . I know people who don’t use them at all and I think you’ll regret that come mid season 😂. Matt what was your gilet and the coffee maker ? 👍
Also keen to know what that crazy coffee maker was!
The gilet in question is from Pas Normal Studios - www.sigmasports.com/item/Pas-Normal-Studios/Escapism-Performance-Fleece-Gilet/XA9H and the coffee maker is the GSI Outdoors Mini-Espresso Set.
Many thanks 😊
G’Day guys Stunning Scenery do you prefer tubeless or inner tubes?
What's your take on suspension seat posts and stems
Oh and Jaffa cakes are the best 😊
Hi, for this kind of rocky terrain, where you are more susceptible to pinch flats we generally prefer running tubeless. As for suspension seatposts, they are a great idea, especially if you are doing long days in the saddle and want to improve comfort. As for suspension around the cockpit, system's such as Specialized's Future Shock are preferable over a suspension based stem.
Has Matt moved house again? Does he have shares in Pickfords? Or is he avoiding his Black Jersey creditors?😂 BTW the 60min Power & Endurance Cadence intervals is still a legendary vid👍
Being a normal person in the real world, I run valve caps on all my bikes -- if at any stage I worry about performance, I remind myself that the extra 20kgs I'm carrying, and the distinct lack of strength and fitness is holding me back much more than the couple of grams in a pair of valve caps...
I feel like someone is using those stupid valve caps for something ingenious and just not telling anyone. They are handy for when you patch and fold up the tube again so the nib doesn't cut into the tube. But that's the only thing I've managed to figure to use them for. Kinda like reflectors on an expensive road bike. Rip em off as soon as you get it
Thought gravel gravy was something totally different! Nice ride, shame I live down south.
Thoughly enjoyed the video until.....gravy on chips! Oh, how northern!
Brilliant video ruined by putting gravy on chips 🤮🤮
We'll tempt Phoebe and Matt towards mayo for the next one.
Thats not hiker biking, thats just walkng with your bike.
Never EVER valve caps. They are J.V. (junior varsity, American term - look it up, if needed) and really don't do anything. No "gunk" should be getting into your valve, anyway. I don't remember seeing anything on my valve stems at any time!
Spot the guy who doesn’t cycle in deep mud or through water.
🥱 Man, these commercials keep getting longer and longer. 😴
