Yeah because no matter how good the photo you submit and no matter how good the bike is, if it's not pinarello, sworks, etc people on the app still would click on the nice button.
I am a working person. I'm the guy who works 2 jobs, and who works on bikes for fun on the side. But I do all that because I love bikes. My least expensive bike is a $5,000 bike. I have 6 bikes. They go up from there. When I say I love my bikes it's because I mean it. You just don't love bikes as much as I do and that is ok. But personally, I don't look at a bike under 1k and think it looks nice at all. Ever. Not even brand new out of the box. Performance irrelevant. Some bikes at that price are definitely better than others. But as far as looks, none of them look nice. Not to me. But it doesn't have to be a 5K bike to be super nice. I had a Cannondale Super X that had cheap aluminum wheels and Sram Apex and I built it myself. Bought the whole thing for under 2k. Carbon seatpost and carbon frame and carbon cranks that I got good deals on. About 100 for each component, 900 for the frame. About 18ish pounds, good for a pit bike too.
Having worked in the bike industry for over a decade, selling many brands including all of the big four, I'm not a fan of the regular high end bikes like S-works, Project One etc. They are too cookie cutter and, with the constant evolution of road bike, rapidly age visually. Probably, seeing them at work all day for months on end takes the edge off them. That said I really appreciate it when people customize/adapt their bikes based on performance improvements and their personal needs rather than what perceived as cool in the moment. So I guess it makes sense that my Top Three are from the only three brands I've never seen. Third place is the Bianchi Sprint, Second place is the Colnage C64, with that stunning ice paint job but First Place and MOST SUPERNICE is the Reilly, at the start of the show, despite the OSPW. Kudos to Mark working well in harmony with Aled. Happy New Year, guys.
Guys, you can lean a bike against a wall without scratching the shifter. I do it nearly every day when I get to my office and open the door. You lean the bike against the drops and not the shifters which are angled on my bike. It really annoys me that you guys say that every time somebody scratching their bike because they are leaning it against something. You can do it very carefully very easily.
Great episode! Thank you GCN for a wonderful year in cycling. Looking forward to more great GCN content in 2024. Hope you all had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! 🎉
How did Ari7474's BMC Timemachine Road (22:01) make it past your bogus photo editing screening? Take a closer look. It's impossible to line up a shot such that the left side drop, hood, and lever are all completely hidden behind the right side drop, hood, and lever - so where did they go, and what else got faked?
Not completely hidden and you actually also can see the left side of the fork. The photo was taken from farther away than generally other people are doing so instead of a wide angle lens with an optical pillow deformation showing both sides of the dropbar and other components, the photo was taken with a more regular lens with much less optical deformation which make a much better representation of the bike. Wide angle lens should be used properly and should be avoided to take pictures of bikes. The photo of the BMC is the correct way of doing it. Totally not fake.
My PICK as Favorite "Super Nice" of these presented is the Cinelli - that ice blue with the logo accent colored livery. Everything about it says BadA$$ All good picks and presentation guys.
Before seeing the bikes, I predict the list will be absolutely dominated by carbon bikes with disc brakes and hidden cables that all look pretty much alike.
Spot on! Not a single metal frame. 😂 …and of course everything limited to racing bikes. Should have said that in the title: „….vote for super nice carbon racing bikes“. Something like that.
The Orbea OCRA Aero might have been a new bike since there are no cages, nor pedals. Either way, I think it's super nice. Mine came with those same Vision one-piece bars.
If you look at the Canyon with Campy, the hoods are simple small additions to the handle bar. All the ones going forward are like plastic tower blocks sticking out the front of the bike. I think the Shimano GRX groupset is going back to the small ergo principle, the newer roads hoods are generally hideous carbuncles.
Two bad people hadn’t submitted in more bikes like the titanium Reilly. The rest of the bikes were all carbon with most having the cookie cutter dropped seat stays that have become Meh. Other than sizing out different stems and seats they are just off the shelf bikes found in any top end bike shop. I think a lot of roadies could learn from mountain biking where you would order in your frame and every part from individual components such as shifters, front and rear mech, cranks, hubs, brakes etc. you picked out yourself. Your bike was unique and individual. The one thing missing on the carbon bikes whether drop bar or flat bar are the intergraded headsets. Pick your favourite colour and brand because the headset is the lipstick 💄 on the bike.
I wonder how they got rid of the perspective any other way. Ultra long tele? Or a stitched panorama? As long as it's not a digital render, I would let it slide, though...
@@danielHL824 I think that it's probably possible to do with some cheeky camera tricks, but the low resolution image and unnatural, even lighting suggests otherwise.
