  • Manon has always wanted to go to Canda; all the moose, maple syrup and poutine - but there's so much more to Canada than that! Gravel riding in Canada is also top quality. Manon met up with Canadian cyclocross legend and general cool person, Maghalie Rochette, who's going to show her the basics of riding gravel in Canada.

    So glad Manon and GCN made it here for some gravel riding! (I say "here" because I'm just a stone's throw away in southern Quebec... only 800 km away!)
    In the West (parts of Alberta and BC) and farther North in Quebec and Ontario, the terrain is much more rugged than in southern Ontario - which would make for a non-zero (albeit still limited) chance of seeing a moose. (Deer, on the other hand, you'll practically encounter just going down the street).
    Also, April is not a pretty month in much of Canada. Autumn leaves in eastern Canada (from late September to early October) are a sight to behold.

      @joshuacurley417 Pƙed rokem +1

      Totally agree. I live in the mountains of Northern BC and I often see moose when I'm out on the forest service roads. I've even seen a grizzly while hiking.

  • @stephensaines7100
    @stephensaines7100 Pƙed 2 lety +8

    Greater Hamilton (of which Dundas is a part) is exceptional in the density of rail trails and associated cycling for Southern Ontario. What's called "the Mountain" is the Niagara Escarpment, and Hamilton's heavy industrial history (Steel Town) has left many abandoned rail rights of way (and a couple of interurban tram lines too) now cycle trails. The countryside to the north of Hamilton offers some excellent secondary and very lightly used county roads that bring one to the TH&B Trail (shown many times in this vid) and then right to the centre of Hamilton to take regional trains east towards the much more populous Toronto area, thus avoiding heavy and dangerous road traffic.

      Whoa, not so fast. [Street hockey is based on ice hockey, bandy, field hockey, or floor hockey and the overall purpose is the same: to score more goals than your opponent by shooting the ball or puck into the opposing team's net using your stick.]

      I recomend going to a reputable local bike shop, (on a slow day) they'll give much better advice than someone who hasn't seen you or your bike and has no idea what i type of riding you want to do. If there isn't one nearby, I'd recomend do a lot of reasearch on your own, becausecit sounds like you'll also be the mechanic in that case. For me, doing my own work is half of the hobby. Good luck and have fun!

      Lot of deer on those trails, large turtles near Meech lake, fox, squirrels, porcupines, the works! But they do avoid the trails, itÂŽs always a matter of surprising them when theyÂŽre crossing the trails. (and I remember stopping to pick berries on big raspberry bushes with, I thought, other people on the other side of the bush. Till I leaned over and the bear stood up on its hind legs, way impressive. You just back away gently, as in "nothing to see here folks", get on your bike and "vamoose" which has nothing to do with meeses or mooses or.... whatever! :) There is a sign at the entrance of the park intended to acquaint you with "Bear etiquette", so not to worry. And by the way, the stretch of the Trans-Canada trail through here is one hell of a .......... ride!
