    Haven't had a chance to test if it holds zero, but mounts just fine and has nice clear glass. Centered vertically true to a plumb line with the crosshairs which is always a plus!It's a great czcams.com/users/postUgkxc4K63Fd5LglDMObu7-Bgapxp_ef0W8hE scope. There's no parallax adjustment or focus ring, so may be limited to 3-7x, have to see how it is on the range. Also be aware that the rings are "look through" so you can still use irons, but they are really tall if you only intend to use the optics. On a 22LR no biggie since I'm not shooting competitions or worried about a hard cheek press. Will boresight and range test, if all goes well, I'll leave it at that!

    Fantastic review, sir. Thanks to your post I recently purchased the VX-6HD in 3-18x50 with the illuminated Boone & Crockett reticle. What did it for me was when you showed how forgiving the eye box was. Using a scope in real world situations (no bags or bipod), and having the glass go "dark" or "tunneling" is a death sentence. You inevitably end up worrying more about preventing the issue than actually using the scope for its intended purpose. In terms of the glass, the glass is identical to the VX-5HD as well as the Mark-5HD (I own these as well). What is different, as you mentioned, are the extra features for leveling, MST, scope lids/shutters. Either way, as others have stated, you can't go wrong with Leupold, and anything from 5HD (Mark of VX) upward is well worth the extra spend.

    I'm 64 yrs old, and yes I grew up hunting and fishing, and through the many decades wether it be what use to be magazines and or subscriptions and now we have the internet and cellphones, the evolution of technology and the quality of materials and skilled trained professionals, yeah sometimes things do get expensive, but depending on your income and lifestyle, you can still research and see what you can find some incredible hunting works of art, I think design and engineering is where it's at, but honestly, how many people can really seriously shoot straight,

    I have that same scope. Even in low light it's still clear and bright. My girls and I have taken 2 bucks, 3 does and an elk with that scope on a Ruger 6.5 creedmore. This year I bought the Leupold VX-6 4-24 X52 for my 7mm and took a big buck at long range, in super low light. I have a bunch of scopes, but these really stand out with their light weight and zero lock features, just to name a few! Thanks for the review!!

    • @hootiesfilms6446
      @hootiesfilms6446 Před rokem +1

      What would you say are the benefits of going to the 4-24, other than just the magnification. I'm torn between these 2 models.

    • @adloutdoors
      @adloutdoors Před rokem

      @@hootiesfilms6446 Thanks for the question. In my part of Idaho, we are hunting in some pretty open terrain with minimal cover, we haven't had too many shots inside of 200 yards. For me, I like the magnification range, even if it's a close shot. I do have a Leupold VX5 3-15X44 that is also a great scope to 300 yds, {for me anyway at 60} but it's noticeable when you increase magnification and the 52mm objective works great for light transmission .... especially when 99% of our animals are late evening. I hope this helps some. -J

  • @KC-7mm
    @KC-7mm Před 3 lety +8

    Yes you get 75 minutes of elevation but you are limited to 38 minutes of evolution once you sight in the rifle but that’s good for 1400 yards ruffly if your shooting a 7 mag at 3000 and a 168gr bullet, just to clarify so someone doesn’t buy one thinking they have 75 minutes of elevation but for a hunting scope,imo you will not find a scope that matches in features and quality I run the 6hd 4-24x52 and love it the glass is so clear that I switched my spotter and Binos to Leupolds new sx and bx series of glass they all share the same lens coatings as the 6hd

    Todd, another great review. In EHJ 182 (Dec/Jan 2020) you stated in the Christmas Picks section that you had been as good a boy as possible. Please tell me Santa Wife delivered on your wish for a new Leupold VX6HD 3-18x44MM for Christmas 2020? I have been fortunate to mount several of these scopes on hunting rifles. The size, function, & optical quality of the VX6HD is optimal for most hunting applications. I hope your Christmas wish was realized.

    Todd, great review bud. Just stumbled on your channel. Can’t wait to mount this on my Sako Finnlight 2, 7 mag. Based on your answer to a previous question below, I’m going 50 mm. Hunting in thick woods gets dark quick. Subscribed

  • @freeandcriticalthinker4431

    Hi Todd, I am looking real hard at that scope and then compared to the 50mm objective VX6 as well. I can’t get my hands on the scope without ordering it so I am out at a disadvantage in my evaluation. Could you give me your personal opinion about the which one you would go with IF the smaller profile wasn’t a big deal for you and an easy eye box being more important and of course a brighter scope is always nice too of course right! Haha. Can you tell a significant difference in the low light performance between the two different objectives? Would appreciate any feedback you might be able to offer. Thanks so much, cheers!

    • @toddhelms5241
      @toddhelms5241 Před 3 lety +2

      I own both. If you want the brightest go with the 50mm. That said, I cannot tell much difference but I don't push last light as hard as some folks do. Squeezing the absolute final seconds from a day would warrant the 50mm.

    Thanks Todd, great reveiw as always. I'm looking at the 2-12x42 with CDS, same concern with a big lense like you (and we can't hunt at night in Denmark) so for me I think 2-12x42 would be ideal. What are your thoughts? the same as the 3-18x44?
    if that's the case, my order will be in at Leupold asap.
    Thanks again

    • @toddhelms5241
      @toddhelms5241 Před rokem

      Jens,
      Thanks for watching! Your choice of scope should be predicated on the magnification level you desire. If close range or moving shots are the norm the 2-12x42 would be the right choice. Longer range? Go with the 3-18x44. Good luck over there.
