    As someone with OCD, it’s important to mention:
    When we do the “rituals” that seem obscure, weird and not logical, WE KNOW THAT IT’S WEIRD AND NOT LOGICAL. But we still need to do it. That’s what’s so upsetting, knowing it but having trouble avoiding doing it

      I belive for some reason I'll die if everything is not perfect for example I'm scared that a killer will kill me so I dont leave any cracks and i check everywhere so no-one is hiding and if I hear noises aNyWhErE then I'll carry a knife to protect myself!! Also I feel like ppl can read my mind!! I'm so stressed out!!

    I’m writing this here because I have no where else to say this. I’m a 14 year old and I have these rituals, but I don’t want to self diagnose. Whenever I walk down my hallway, I have to step on every other tile. If I want to open an app I have to do it 3 different times before actually using the app. Every night I push my bed against the wall 8 times and if I don’t I feel like my family is in danger. I’m afraid to ask to be properly diagnosed because I don’t want to be a financial burden. I don’t know why I’m typing this, I just needed to get it out.

      I have OCD and a speech disorder, ( My doctor said i'm over worried, but all of my symptons are exactly the same as OCD and speech disorder symptons ) I'm like you but it's worse, i can't arrange words and make it into a sentence, it's just like there's 1000 words in my mind and i can't use all of them at once, so everytime i'm speaking, i stutter alot to choose which word should i use, I started to be bored of living, it's like i'm a living corpse, i keep saying something wrong all the time, when i'm speaking it feels like i already said that word even though in reality i haven't and it's just my imagination, annoying disease, i have to re read words over and over again for 30 times, i have to say words over and over again for 30 times, even when i'm typing, it feels like everything is wrong and i had to delete some wrong words, because there are too many word that pops up in my mind and i keep saying the first words that pops in my mind, which is sad. Also i'm 14 and an Indonesian native speaker, even i don't use english as a native language, my english wasn't this bad.

    I always keep refreshing my Instagram page to check if I didn’t accidentally go on live or post something and sometimes it get so annoying and makes me panic a lot.
    I also have those intrusive thoughts like everyday and it makes me so scared that someone would be able to read my thought.
    Also I have thoughts like “If you don’t do this your family will die.”
    And when I try to open this problem to someone people just find it ridiculous.

    My biggest struggle with OCD is me fearing that someone can hear my thoughts, or is somehow watching my thoughts so I can never feel comfortable to have my own thoughts. That is an OCD struggle according to my doctor

      @@user-ed4fr5nx8d you just have to not care about what's going on in your head make peace with your thoughts let them be there don't try to fight them and argue with them and know that it just a fear that grown because you gave it too much attention
      and the best you can do is read and get educated about psychosis like schizophrenia so u can convince yourself that it not what's happening to you
      since i wrote the comment 5 days ago i can say that i'am 95% over my fear

    I developed OCD (intrusive thoughts, ruminations, compulsions) when I was only 10 or 11. It was debilitating, and I thought I was going crazy. I was diagnosed when I was super young. I’m 26 now and still struggle with it. It can feel very isolating.

      Can totally relate to you. It can make us feel so isolate but may be because 50-60% of those with OCD have MDD as well which is even more difficult to manage

Usually after doing masturbation or eating or any other thing my compulsion is mentally repeating those things like how i done those things and gets temporary relief and joy. But after 3-4 minutes same compulsion comes again with more power. Sometimes feels panick attacks for no reason. I am 27 now male.

    I never knew what OCD truly was and will never underestimate it. It sounds like a living nightmare to go through and I hope anyone that goes through this can see happier days. My girlfriend has OCD and she is doing fine but it still bothers her from time to time. I will always be there for her because I wouldnt want to go through this alone

    Yesterday I was diagnosed with OCD included high anxiety and a little panic. And also depression. It’s sad to know OCD is hard to be cured completely.     my OCD (as of late) attacks things that bring me comfort or make me happy. Intrusive thoughts will form around this person or thing I love and I’ll feel panicked at the idea of this thing I rely on for relief, being ruined. which then causes me to do a series of compulsions to keep this person or thing safe. it’s exhausting, and a dark characteristic of OCD that I’ve never experienced before until recently. anybody dealing with this, I hope you know you’re not alone, no matter how specific your thoughts and obsessions may seem, someone out there CAN sympathize with you.

    This video forgot to mention that most of the times the sufferer undertands that the obsessions and compulsions are irrational. I have severe OCD myself, mostly hygiene related. When I was at my worst i could stay in the shower for over 5 hours. It's not that I actually believe that i'm still dirty and I know that I can't get any more "clean", but as fast as I leave the shower I get a weird compulsion to enter the shower again, Sometimes without any motive at all, It just dosens't "feel right". It's really weird to explain. People are always to judgmental and says things like "just snap out of it" it's like telling an addict to just stop using.

      I get it. It's like having a soul wedgie. Every thing feels wonky and off. I was on food loop for a while. I had to eat a donut every day. If I didn't, it was all I could think about for the rest of the day. I'll admit I like sweets, but it was to the point I was crying while eating them. I just wanted that feeling to go away.

    OCD started in me when I was 6, and the sad fact is now only am realizing it was a disorder, my whole life I thought I was alone, I did tell my family about these (when I was a kid)but all they did was laughing and my brother always teased me cause I repeated things, I think OCD is the worst disorder , but the good part for me is I overcame this without anyone's help(still a glimpse exist) am so glad about that, I don't think anyone would ever know about what else I've gone through other than you guys, btw I recommend you guys to visit a therapist and I hope everything will be alright for y'all , everything's gonna be fine ❤️

      Same is started when I was around 8-9 and I’m 11 nearing 12 now but I only realised that is what it was. Like examples. Stepping on all the titles in a street, if one tiny bit of my toe steps on the tile before it, I have to restart it. Or if my hand touches the wall. My other hand touches it. To equalise touches. I don’t know how it happens but it does. Good luck to you.

    I haven't been diagnosed with OCD, but I've found a lot of comfort in this comment section. It's refreshing to see that I'm not the only one with these disturbing and irrational intrusive thought and compulsions.     I’m at a point where I’m not diagnosed, so I don’t claim to have OCD. But I have these obsessions and compulsions that inhibits my ability to think clearly. I’m often attacked by thoughts that trouble me greatly. It’s like torture, I have these moments where I’m surrounded in irrationality but there’s that looming sense of unsureness. I don’t know at this point.

    It all stems from anxiety. Fear is the root cause. Only if one can learn to accept fear and face it with strength.
    I am dealing with issues too but not giving up until I get better.

      U can watch the channel youhaveocd here at yt the person who owns this channel has recovered from severe ocd u can get constantly support from this channel and remember that u can recover but to recover u have to do the work ot takes some time like 7 or 8 months usually but u will recover eventually if u do the work of corse!!!

      I think about others getting hurt then worry that it will actually happen so I try to tell my thoughts ‘no don’t do it I like that person please’ also I can mentally talk trash about a person and then scenarios pop into my head about something hearing those thoughts, thinking I don’t like that person, and then hurting them so I try and think ‘wait no but I like that person’ and I have this weird thing where I can sort of ‘project’ my thoughts and it feels like I’m launching them somewhere but sometimes I don’t feel the launching of every word so I feel like the demon hasn’t heard all of what I said and so I repeat it over and over again until it does project completely
      It’s horrible I feel like I can’t even express pain that someone I love has caused me in my head without fearing them getting hurt...
      I also have a lot of terrible intrusive thoughts about morally extremely wrong things then I get scared someone’s reading my mind and hearing these thoughts
      There’s a lot more things that just exhaust me and make going out into public with lots of people a huge chore

    The "repeat" mechanism was presented way too simplified. You don't just endlessly repeat stuff and then suddenly stop for no reason. There's always some system or idea behind the repeats. It's either a "good" number, like, for example, you define 5 as a "good" number, because when you were five you got that instrument that you still love and play, or you met your loved one 5 years ago. You choose the number and you define it. There's no logic behind it, it just has to be reasonable for yourself in some way. So, if 5 is a good number, you will repeat 5 times. There are other methods too, though. Sometimes you will have to repeat indefinitely until it feels like you "did it right". Again, the definition is made by you. It can be anything and also more than one thing. For example, you have to repeat until you manage to finish the action exactly after an exhale and before you start to inhale again. If you "don't succeed" on a try, you have to repeat until you "get it right". A mix of methods is also possible. Like, you have to repeat for 5 times, but also make sure to finish number 5 with a "good" action. If you fail, you have to repeat the 5 and try to "get it right" again. That is why and how it gets time consuming. If you fail, then the fear kicks in. And it's agonizing. So much so, that it can keep you at a task for a very long time.
    My OCD was so bad at one point, I almost choked myself on several occasions, because I tried to control my breathing insanely. I had other OCD issues too, but that one was the most exhausting. I managed to get better and I keep track of my personal development and as soon as I recognize a negative development I get back to my ERP and fight it. I don't always succeed at everything. But most of the time I do. I haven't choked myself in 4 years now. I'm still struggling, but I'm fighting every day and the fact that I got better helps me to keep going. It gets tougher around winter. The other day I found that I had started rituals again while watching commercials of meds against flu. I have this weird idea that if I don't I'll miraculously get sick when watching them. So I started to very consciously watch them again, making very sure I don't perform any rituals. I keep doing that for a few days and the urge to perform is basically gone. One important trick is to realize when rituals try to sneak in again. You have to detect and fight them, or they will slowly take over. I have experienced it. Doing one annoying thing isn't all that bad, after all. If it makes you feel better, why not? Then another thing comes up and it's just one thing, so you can do that little thing too. Then one more thing comes up and before you realize it, all you do is try to prevent disaster from happening with the weirdest methods. Just the act of "going to bed" from the living room to the actual bed could take up to about 45 minutes for me - not to mention the terrifying fear that I experienced among the way. (Yes, it can take that long, or even longer, remember you don't just have to do it, but you have to do it "right" - or repeat.) Today I do it very simply, just like everybody else. During times that are stressful the compulsions can sometimes come forth more forcefully and get to me, but it's nowhere near as bad as it used to be. So, if anyone who suffers actually reads this: Don't give up! It's worth the fight. It's worth the fear and the sweats and the tears, because at the other end there's a better life.

      Exactly. OCD means more that double check or repeat something. I have OCD alongside schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety and depression. I reach an illness level that gives me pain, literally. For me, even the most simple and common things that people can think at, are very difficult to do. I have experienced all things you've written about, with breath control and going to bed and even with the good and bad number and what terrible fear i feel if I don't do it "right". My way to control it was telling myself that this is not real, is just in my mind, but from a certain point it stopped working, I think my brain was getting used to it and it started to ignore it. So, it is very hard, I'm pretty fucked up. And more painful is that people around me say that I'm just weak or stupid, they don't realize how it is to have an mental illness.

      so i always had anxiety with fixing things, like arranging, but that isn’t exactly ocd
      then,this summer, i feel this strange urge that if i don’t redo something or tap something in the right place..something bad will happen
      like, today i was flushing the toilet and closing the seat..and i thought to myself..if i don’t tap the toilet again..something will happen..so i keep tapping it unlit it feels right..

      I know your comment is 9 months ago but goodness this explains everything. I have similar "activities" like that and I'm not a hygienic person at all! But the thoughts are really really time consuming bcs it makes me do irrational "ritual". Some days I even dont wanna go to bed bcs just imagining the steps it takes to go to sleep already exhausts me. And it gets bad when I get my pms and even the period itself, the hormonal imbalance might be the cause.

    When I was 11, my first case of OCD made its way into my head. I would get those terrifying images in my head and worry that every little step I make can cause a disaster, I would lock myself in to prevent anything. A year later, I would have this compulsion to tell my mom EVERYTHING that goes on in my head, my whole thoughts, I was afraid I would die before telling my mom something important “ridiculous IK” . Then washing my hands for no reasons became an issue, my hands would turn bloody red in the winter and my skin would fall off because I would wash my hands more than 20 times with freezing water a day. I thought I was insane and that no one could understand me, I didn’t even know OCD was a thing and I thought I was the only one in the world who would feel this way, I committed suicide 2 times because I couldn’t handle the pain and the headache I would get, I would be so tired and exhausted. I learned OCD can be passed in generations, I’m afraid that my kids are going have it. I wouldn’t wish OCD to my worst enemy, it’s a torture to the mind that never ends, I’m on meds now, and I do see a therapist, but the compulsions are still here, not as intense, but they will never go...

    My OCD affects how I play games. If I get an unwanted thought while playing a game, it affects how I make progress. For example, an unwanted thought might make me remember something important to the game, but since It was an unwanted thought, I don't do that "important thing" and pretend like I didn't remember it. A better example next. I like being creative, building and etc. An unwanted thought might trigger something creative for me to build. Guess what? It was an unwanted thought that I didn't like, so once again, I pretend like I didn't remember it.

    i looked up ocd tonight and literally had every symptom. i haven’t even been diagnosed or told my parents but my life is almost hell. don’t worry i would never hurt myself but having ocd sucks and i honestly would never wish it upon anyone else.

    This is my everyday life. From switching of the light to drinking water or even washing hands I have to do it 5,7,10,15 times or until I feel it's right. Same applies with no creases on bedsheets, perfectly straight mattress, cleanliness, checking rigorously multiple times if the stove is on, plugging earphones and unplugging and then plugging it again, and yet many more. It bugs me out everytime while doing it but I can't just stop. I feel like a psychopath and it creeps me out. It consumes my time and I can never enjoy my time peacefully or happily.
    I wish some force could take this away from me and everybody who suffers 😢

      I have similar behavior to yours. Try to imagine yourself as if you don't have the ocd , as if you play a role. I do it sometimes and it has helped me.

      what type of person stops at 7, i dont see any multiplication involving 7 and 10, or 7 + 3 =10 so 7 x 3 is 21 and half of 21 is 10.5 , 10.5 is weird so do it x 10 so its 105 and is 7 divisible by 105? yes, so 105 / 7 = 15 so 15 is just weird so 15 / 3 = 5, and five is a factor of 10, your welcome!!

    Sometimes when I accidently touched something, I automatically have to touch it twice. And everytime I buy groceries, I have to check my wallet dozens of time to make sure my money is still there 😅

You have the control over yourself and your life and no one can take that from you! If you feel anxious just stop for a second, breathe, and you will calm down. YOU are stronger than your thoughts.     For some reason it really pleases me to have a community who talks about the same thing they all have and never knew anyone else had to do the same thing like I get just so invested if the other person has to repeat things(for me it’s 5 times) and I have a rough dad and he’s really strict/ kind of favorites my sister and I had to go through a divorce and I have a HUGE amount of mental stress when I sense my mom is getting stressed because I love her so much and don’t want her to leave me

    OCD just makes me feel insane. Everything is so much harder and confusing. I count things. Over and over. Just to confirm that I was right about what I counted lol. Everything has to be level and even. If I touch something with one hand and not the other, I feel unbalanced. As I’m walking on the sidewalk I count my steps and make sure that I never step on the cracks. Only liking numbers to be by multiples of 5; the tv, my car radio, my phone, even the clock bothers me when it doesn’t end with a 0 or 5. I don’t think people realize how exhausting it is. Or how when I forget to set the radio on the right number before I leave the car I feel like something bad will happen to me or someone I love. It’s so ridiculous. I can even see and understand it’s ridiculous. But to my brain it’s not. And it’s so hard to control the impulses. I feel for anyone that goes through this. Whether you have the same experience or something different. OCD is complex and different with everyone and it’s rough.

      No way. Your compulsions are just like mine, like all of them. They're exhausting. But I have another compulsion which is the most exhausting one, jumping 18×9 times while landing on both of my kegs at the same time because I have to do things in either 18 times or 9 times depending on the number of pairs of that certain object(my compulsions mostly include moving certain objects, or myself) and 5×5 if that thing is my phone.

      They all have to be of lined in a row. And I will count over and over again or even by 3×whatever the number may be ,, to confirm that I've counted them correctly. if that makes any sense,.

    I might just confirmed that i have OCD after i learned about those mental rituals. Everyday i wake up and perform those mental rituals in my head and it causes me distress and making me unfocused.

    My OCD gets so bad and i get trapped in my own mind everyday. Sometimes i have to force myself put of my own head, and i use "aggression" to get out of that negative mindset. I always just push it to the back of my mind and tell myself im "Okay".

    When I was a child, I used to avoid stepping on the cracks on the sidewalks. And I also count the steps before crossing a particular crack. The count has to end in even numbers, and my step should always end on my right foot before crossing the crack. If not, I would get anxious and scared. Is that OCD?

      Yeah that's how mine started when I was younger. I used to have to step right inside the squares and swing my arms through the lines.
      Go get help. It progresses and changes over time and it can ruin your life.

    No one believes me when I say I have OCD when I touch something with my right hand I have to touch it with my left, my brain makes me touch things I would never think of doing, every time I close the shower handle or door I do it again multiple times until I’m satisfied. Another, for example, is when it's like 3:59 I can't stop staring until its 4:00 and I hate it!

      this is really weird to describe but i’ll try here we go
      if i slap my hands down on a table, but Slap A is harder, louder, and hit first, and Slap B softer, quieter, and hit last, i will do it again, but having the hand that did Slap B do Slap A and vise versa. If I mess up, I do the same thing with those slaps and then carry on. IT DRIVES ME INSANE SOMETIMES

    i have not been diagnosed with OCD, but have questioned having it a few times. For example, i’ll get these thoughts like if i don’t clean my room, someone will get hurt, or if i’m walking through a public place, i’ll self consciously hold on to my purse super tight, or wash my hands several times after cleaning a bathroom, or obsess over which direction an object should face and end up getting a headache over simple things like that. i am not in anyway saying i have this disorder, but the thought has crossed my mind a few times.

    This happens everyday. I feel as if I get germs on my hands, I seem to HAVE to wash them. Now, my hands are extremely dry and it hurts whenever I wash it with soap. (And yes, this isn’t my ONLY ocd problem.)

    For people who have ocd:
    If you are too afraid to talk to someone, write in a journal. Remember, counselors are there to help you, not to yell at their top of their lungs to everyone that you have ocd. If you dont completely feel comfortable with meeting them in person, you can email/text them or call them! And you can first talk to someone you trust that you think will give you good advice! If you have a school counselor, you can try talking to them too! And accepting that you have OCD and not trying to run from it is a step of getting rid of it. When you have disturbing thoughts, tell yourself that that did NOT happen and that here you are, existing along with other people, breathing and moving and with your loved ones. I'm not some amazing counselor who has 5.0 stars on their ratings or stuff but I understand how other people feel, and I'm writing the things that helped me! So dont be afraid to talk to someone, your mental health matters ❤

    I think I've had OCD for a long time but I'm finally learning what it is and recognizing it. I don't have a diagnosis but I strongly believe I have it. It's been getting a lot worse this past year and it's becoming uncontrollable. I was in tears from it the other day. I'm far too scared to ask my parents to take me to the doctor for it, does anyone know how I can fix it by myself?

    I was recently diagnosed with OCD. For a while, it seemed like nobody understood what I was going through until I discovered this disorder. I’m thankful to know how many people are out there that I can relate to, and I’m glad to know that there is treatment. I feel like this is one of those disorders that people severely underestimate.     *Warning: this is rather gross*
    I literally stand in front of a mirror for at least a few hours a day just picking my face, I'm trying to get rid of bumps or blemishes. No, it's not normal, I make myself bleed and I can't stop until the flaw is gone, then another, and another.
    I've been late for parties, and I sometimes can't even take notes in class because I am trying to pick again.
    It is so embarrassing when people comment on the bleeding or scabs.
    I stopped when I was younger (in about 4th grade), but then my sister got psoriasis and she began to get blotches of skin to dry and flake. I began picking at myself again and occasionally try to get the dandruff out of her hair. It's full-blown and I've been trying to use fidget rings and other things to keep my hands busy but the only thing that is slightly improving it is medication.
    And now I've started pulling the hair from my arms and legs to the point where somebody has to stop me. I just start with hair that is a little darker than the rest, then I see that this hair looks weird too, and sometimes I have to dig into my skin to be able to get the hair out and finally feel temporary relief.

      It is only "triggered" (ugh I don't like that word) when I touch my skin and feel something off or if I stare at the mirror for too long, at which point I am sent back into a frenzy of tearing myself apart.

      Snickercole I suffer from compulsive skin picking too! I recently started medication so I hope it works. My picking is also triggered when I touch something that needs "fixing" or something, then I will be obsessed about it, like I won't be able to sleep until I picked at it. I do it everyday but sometimes I do it less and it's more manageable. It definitely gets worse when I'm very stressed though

      That sounds more like bfrbs then ocd. Bfrbs (Body Functioning Repetitive Behaviours) are compulsive disorders after all! Trichotilliomania is a compulsive hair pulling disorder and dermatillomania is a skin picking disorder.

    Such a disorder just seems endlessly tough to go through. It takes a lot for a person to handle such misery. I understand what it's like to go through it. Feeling total isolation, being 'organized (seriously speaking, being organized is not an issue. It's just cleanliness that may be a part of character). Bad thoughts just bring in a lot of anxiety from a certain event, and it just ruins a positive field of life that must be taken care of properly.

    From what I’ve experienced and noticed, OCD differs A LOT between person to person. But it’s really nice to see people connecting over their struggles in the comments. I went a long time without a diagnosis for my OCD and other disorders and I genuinely thought I was crazy. But a diagnoses makes connecting with others and understanding how your own brain works a fair amount easier. Anxiety disorders are scary, if anyone reading this has one, I know the struggle.     My OCD got so bad I had to move back in with my parents, but they hate me for how disruptive my symptoms are.
    They treat me with contempt because they believe I'm attempting to control their lifestyle, but I'm really not. I'm just attempting to make myself feel safe and to keep them safe too.
    I can't begin to tell you how it feels to have the guilt of ruining people's lives because of it. And how demoralizing it is to be yelled at saying I'm not normal
    I don't wanna live like this either. Life is hell. Every split second is a panic and living around people who you can't trust to respect boundaries or with unpredictable people sends the anxiety and OCD into overdrive.
    If anyone is reading this and knows someone with OCD please be kind and supportive because every moment is a battle with ourselves and we need people on our side.

      @@xdrazormon454 I don't perhaps think that's the case necessarily.... You're not wrong for feeling how you feel but there are a lot of disorders (that nobody truly understands yet) that involve the overlap between attention (ie things that grab your attention) and emotional dysregulation (ie. ability to self regulate feelings). It could maybe be ASD related hyperfocus (again, all of OCD, ADHD, ASD issues _might_ be a issue?).
      OCD is such a crippling and paralyzing disorder that I'm scared of touching objects... Plastic bags, doing laundry... It's a thing where people aren't even involved and I'm sacrificing human relationships to deal with cleaning.
      I hope the best, don't know your circumstances but hopefully given you other options too coz I've def been where you are before and underlying causes overlap and can even occur side by side

    this video brought me so much joy. i was smiling all through it because something i've felt with for such a long time, is being described in a way ive always wanted to but could never let it leave my mouth. one of my obsessions is that nothing i say makes sense, and so as a result of that to help reduce my anxiety from that i repeat myself over and over, trying to make the right words come out until i feel satisfied. i'll be sure to link this vid when someone asks me about my ocd.

    I'm really not sure if I have OCD but when I was younger, I used to tell myself repeatedly that everything was going to be fine and nothing bad would happen whenever something bad almost happens to me. Like for example when a knife almost falls on me or when using a treadmill, I think that I might be sucked and flattened 💀 (worse if it happens to a close person). I would think about this a LOT and be just spaced out in my room for a few minutes. It doesn't happen to me anymore but I do keep touching the same places in my phone sometimes but I can control it most of the time.

    I haven't been diagnosed but I'm pretty sure I have OCD. At the beginning (5 years ago) it was really difficult to live with. I was only 13 and I thought I was mentally ill. I didn't want to tell my parents about it, fearing they would find me crazy. I thus suffered in silence and it got worse and worse. I had many compulsions and I made ritual patterns to soothe myself. It was really exhausting. In fact, I couldn't be happy anymore. But, 2 years ago or so, I figured that I could just accept and ignore those intrusive thoughts. I saw that as a challenge and I gradually got rid of some of them. These last two years, I've finally opened up and tried to tell what I had to some people but, except for my older sister, no-one really understood my pain. Now that I'm of age and able to make decisions for myself, I think about talking to a psychiatrist. I reckon it might help me. I ain't a professional and I don't know a lot about the subject but I'd be glad to help you. Feel free to share you own experience with me.     As a person having OCD, i can say that this video is very informal and helpful, and is a great way to inform others of what OCD is and how it works. Although OCD for some can be seen to be much darker and horrid than portrayed in this video, you have seemed to take a lighter approach to it, but have still maintained to include many important factors about OCD. anyways, I'm rambling on at this point, great video!!

      One illness grows and then you can easily have 2 then 3 illnesses of the mind.....the result of incorrect ...wrong thinking patterns...you can learn a lot from it and reverse back into healthier behaviours from correcting the mistake programming....it’s a process to get well like it was to get sick

    I was only diagnosed with OCD last year, even though I have struggled with it my whole life. I think this video is great although it should have spoken about mental compulsions more, this is a key reason OCD sufferers can go undiagnosed for so long, because they might have more mental compulsions as opposed to physical. This was the case with me, I had 'obsessions' of intrusive thoughts (harm, sexual, existential, paranormal) that I couldn't get out of my head, it felt like they were stuck in my brain, so I would spend hours upon hours every day ruminating on these thoughts and constantly trying to work out answers (to questions that seemingly did not have answers e.g. "what is the point in life?"), reviewing memories to see if I had ever done anything bad in the past, checking how I felt in my mind and body if I actually did what my obsessions were saying I could possibly do... and this obviously causes immense anxiety, my mind is taken up the whole day carrying out these mental compulsions but on the outside I just seem quiet/anxious. My only physical compulsion was avoidance (avoiding the news, avoiding tv/film that had the topics in that my obsessions were about, avoiding knives, etc). So this is why it took so long for me to get diagnosed. I was diagnosed with anxiety & depression for a long time and it was only when I met someone who spoke about their own intrusive thoughts so candidly and said they have OCD that I opened up to them about my thoughts, and they said they think I have OCD.
    To end on a cheerier note, I have been on antidepressants for 6 years now (tried to come off once which went very badly), and I started seeing a psychologist last year who I have done ERP and EMDR therapy with, and as well as practicing mindfulness and meditation, I am now in the best mental state of my life! There is hope x

    I’m pretty sure I have ocd, and it explains a lot of my life, but I’m not totally sure. Is there any way to diagnose without actually going to a physiatrist? I’m not interested in treating it because none of my compulsions are actually serious, I just want some validation. Also, the way this video was organized was very pleasing to me, and exactly how I like to learn.

    This disorder absolutely destroyed my whole teenege life in many different ways even tho I’m heathy now I have so much trauma from all the years it have destroyed for me.

    I do many of the things the video showed. Checking, repeating, arranging etc but one symptom I have that I hate the most in this world is intrusive thoughts. I can't stand it. Sometimes I have to physically hurt myself from thinking unwanted thoughts. And these thoughts are totally out of my control..they come out of nowhere and i can't help myself get rid of it. I had it since i was a kid and i don't think they will ever go away.

    I have severe OCD and I know I’m not alone. It really is mental torture. I suffer greatly from it and I know that a lot of people as well. You’re not alone and you will beat this ocd sickness. Stay strong and don’t give up. Seek professional ocd help and take the ocd meds like Luvox. Good luck every1!

      My sisters really struggles with severe ocd and I had problems with ocd too I used to tap every door frame I walked by with both of my hands and I had to do it and I had to check other things like 30 times but as I grew up I stopped doing this things cause it was way to exhausting doing this things I didn’t have time for these things and I thought I was a psycho or something and I suddenly stopped. My sister is really suffering from it and I don’t get it why people can’t stop doing these things like I did.
