Why is this house just called Mario’s house? Doesn’t Luigi also live here? Are you telling me that their last name really is just Mario?
You really want me to believe that the King of the Goombas is called… Goomba? That’s like if the King of England was called Human.
Welcome back to the series where we apply real-life logic into video games. Now, it’s time to look at some of the weird occurrences that occur in all six of Mario’s flat adventures. So here are 30 things that don’t make sense in Paper Mario.

Great video, however:
Number 7 (Falling down the hole produces a game over):
Mario falls down that hole in Prologue, and that's where he meets Olivia and they escape the castle.
Number 10 (Big Mario one-shots the big koopa):
In every Mario game, Mario is one-shotted by goombas, koopas, etc. that are the same size as him. That size "equal ground" doesn't exist.
Number 11 (Toad can't go between the fences) and Number 13 (Mario can't fall in the grate):
The ability to flip from the X plane to the Z plane is referenced in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door as the Paper Mode ability, and in Super Paper Mario as the ability given to you by the pixl Slim.
Number 15 (Goombella not saying what was in the chest):
If you visit Goombella in the post-game, she tells you it's a dried shroom, and that knowing that the ancient civilization consumed mushrooms is good for archaeology. The quote "But I'll tell you next time I see you" wasn't written for fun.
Minor nitpicks:
Number 8 (Kooper admiring Kolorado while being in his egg):
This could easily be a figure of speech from Kooper and not be meant to be taken literally.
Number 3 (Shadow sirens casting their own shadow):
A being composed of non-projected shadow would still block light from the ground, so them having shadows makes sense.
Number 4 (3D with 2D characters):
The entire world is in 3D, so that dimension is clearly not a foreign concept to the paper characters.
