This is an automatic fish food dispenser I made for the new aquaponic system in our geodesic dome greenhouse. It's set up to run on one of our IX series indexing timers. For more information about the timer, please go to www.BigelowBroo...

I spent several days searching CZcams for a true home build fish feeder without luck. Then, a week after I purchased a commercial feeder with mixed reviews, this video shows up on my recommended list. I saved this video to my future project list in case the feeder I bought does not work out. An auger for a pellet stove/grill might work for me as well. Thanks for sharing.

I don't even do aquaponics, but craftsmanship made me subscribe. I might learn something to implement into my insect breeding.

The water is actually fairly clear. I get some algae growth on the tank walls which the fish like to eat. The HDPE sides let light through so it's hard to control it. I may cover the entire tank at some point. When I shot that video, it was starting to get dark out so the water looked cloudy....I was too lazy to shoot new video for it. ;-)

I am in the early planning stages of an aquaponics system and one thing I want is an automatic feeder. I fully intend on having my system fully automated soon after getting it setup (I am an electronics major afterall). This is pretty much what I have in mind, thanks for the great info.!

I loved that you used a recycled computer case. A quality job repurposing a ton of stuff. I'm jealous as hell because I pay people like you to do that kind of stuff for me (because I don't have the talent/vision/etc.).
    Great video!!

ya sorry I felt like a donkey after I posted that but plants love a little H2O2 on the roots if you see them getting yellow or that a little goes a long way and if you need to air rate the water if your pumps break down and that H2O2 about a cup or more will keep the fish alive for 24 hours... The photo-Fenton reaction and it helps keep the system clean with little work like always great videos....

Have you had any formal previous education, as well as any education in aquaponics itself, i may answer my own question soon lots of vids. Presentation is also extremely well done and i love the oh darnit moments it just shows that nothing is always perfect the first time you do something, which i think helps out a lot of newbies from quitting.

I must respectfully disagree with your "always wear gloves" recommendation. It has always been my policy to NEVER wear gloves with any tool that rotates (table saws, angle grinders, lathes, etc) because it is far better to cut or even lose a finger than to get a glove caught and lose your whole hand.
