      Happy to have you around! I should mention this Green dial variant is sharper than it's blue and red dialed brethren, I think it has to do with the gold indices. I've never been a big fan of the previous cocktail time- they were lacking some fun colors, this changes things for me. Gorgeous is the right word!
      All in all I am 100% with you. Seiko is really packing all they can at this price

    This watch is so gorgeous that I went way beyond my personal budget limit and got it. I couldn't say no. I must say the dial is incredible.
    A video does not do it justice. I agree that the strap is awful both in colour and comfort. The clasp digs in to my wrist and that was a deal breaker. I've replaced it with a matte brown traditional strap and it is now perfect
    in my eyes.

    To everybody complaining about hardlex vs sapphire: hardlex has a rating of 8 on Mohs scale and Sapphire has a rating of 9 so sapphire is not leaps and bounds ahead but is more likely to shatter from impacts. Hardlex is still much better than standard mineral glass.

    • @CrookedNose2131
      @CrookedNose2131 Před 2 lety +11

      Exactly, however people like to criticise in order to show they are a true watch connoisseur who knows what they are talking about. If your watch is hitting things so hard it is shattering the crystal, you have bigger things to worry about than whether it's hardlex or sapphire.

      You’re right. I would’ve loved to see a nice sapphire crystal. Maybe seiko thought owners of this watch would be busy drinking cocktails and taking their leisurely time. Rather than rebuild engines with it on their wrist? 😂

    • @theguardian3431
      @theguardian3431 Před 3 lety +6

      @@perpetuality unfortunately, rebuilding engines isn't the only way to scratch a crystal. And I get your point but indulge me.
      I write for a living and I tend to baby my watches, especially the dressier pieces. So, imagine my surprise to find my cocktail fuyugeshiki with a huge scratch on the crystal. It put me off the cocktail time after that experience.
      I think that if a crystal protrudes from the case as much as this does, it should be sapphire. I'd be willing to pay extra to protect those gorgeous dials.

    • @perpetuality
      @perpetuality  Před 3 lety +1

      100% agree with you, I cannot imagine the cost differential for a sapphire crystal to be that great, considering micro brands can do so much for so little. The crystal also protects the bezel in a way- and having it sapphire just has more benefits with little to no downsides.
      The only downside I can think of is gray banding around the edge of the sapphire crystal because of the distortion. Like the Speedmaster sapphire. There are some other arguments for hardlex having better optical clarity and less prone to being shattered, but i would still have sapphire for its scratch resistance
      Let’s hope maybe crystal times or a third party can release a sapphire crystal down the road?

    That dial is amazing, it reminds me of the blue dial Grand Seiko, which, in my opinion, has the best dial I've ever seen. At that price point I wish it had a sapphire crystal and 100m water resistance tho since those are quite easy to pull off these days especially for someone as big as SEIKO, but for a dress watch I guess you can wave the water resistance, but you'll definitely need to swap the hardlex for sapphire over time. • @patrickmacleod2415
      @patrickmacleod2415 Před 3 lety

      Sapphire is actually difficult to achieve for this much of a domed crystal. You won't see that much of a dome in sapphire on any watch at that price point, and even higher priced watches much reduce the amount of 'dome' on versions with sapphire- a good example is look at the Omega Speedmaster moon water acrylic version vs sapphire- not only is the sapphire version more expensive than the acrylic version (both cost in the thousands) but the sapphire version is not nearly as domed. I did have a Vulcain with sapphire and a really high dome, and B&R makes models with such a high domed sapphire, but both cost in the thousands. I love vintage domed watches, so I would much prefer this highly domed version of this watch than a flatter/less domed sapphire watch. However, I would much prefer Seiko simply use acrylic here, which can easily be polished, vs. their mineral glass which cannot be polished.

    "11.8mm in depth meaning this is quite a thin watch", for a diver or chronograph watch but thick for a dress watch. Good luck getting a shirt cuff over it. .

    Harlex over sapphier does NOT "make sense at this price point". It's unacceptable frankly, and consumers shpuld demand better. Chinese Aliexpress watches have sapphire on $60 watches. It's inexcusable not to have it on over $300 watches.

    I dislike the size of the watch, ideal size would be 39.5 or 40mm. The bracelet does look very plastic and not made of leather. Awesome face on the watch, with beautiful gold numbers paired well with the deep forest green.

      What's so special about these sapphire crystal glasses? Newby here

    • @AvicSubfusca
      @AvicSubfusca Před 3 lety +1

      @@Fjerid basically they don't scratch. A hardlex crystal is fine on a £150 watch, but on a £300/£400 dress watch you should be getting sapphire. I learned about hardlex Vs sapphire the hard way. Years ago, the very first time I wore my SKX009, I accidentally brushed my arm against a garden wall. It was fairly light contact I would say. My brand new watch now had a scratched crystal and bezel insert. The first time I ever wore it. I could have cried. I was so gutted. I never wore the watch again and sold it a while later.. I've bought watches with hardlex since but only if the price is right, as in cheap, or I know I can easily buy a replacement sapphire (samurai etc) and I'm just generally more cautious with them.
