The Seiko Cocktail Time SRPB77 & SRPD37 Review - The Best Dial for $400

- The draw to watches for every collector is different, for me, design, particularly the dial, is at the top of the list in terms of the aspect of a watch that draws me in. As to me, the dial helps make or break a watch on whether I am going to buy more than anything else. And as we rise the ladder of complexity in watches, the level of dial making and mastery can reach incredible levels of craftsmanship, yet you usually are always paying for it. Yet today we look at two watches from Seiko, the SRPB77 and SRPD37, falling under the cocktail time family that for around $400 are the best dials that you’ll find for the price.

Teddy, I don't usually comment. I tend to be quite a passive viewer of the content. But these macro shots are really amazing. The key, I think, is your exceptional lighting. It's so good! Thanks for these stunning shots. And good luck to you.
Thanks for taking the time to comment Travis! I appreciate the kind words buddy!

Oh good. Any excuse for a cocktail this morning is a good one for me.
Haha well played 😂
@@TeddyBaldassarre Teddy do you think Grand Seiko are a good investment, do you rate Grand Seiko watches, I hear people saying that they are tomorrow's Rolex and will shoot up in value, here is the watch that I am thinking of buying czcams.com/video/ATQp7VmWMFk/video.html
I've never looked into watches, nor do I regularly wear one, but after stumbling across this video I've been really fascinated at how they actually work and the designs that go with them. I've been bartending for 6 years, and after learning about this watch I figured it would be the perfect gift to myself to reflect my career. I've just purchased the SRPB43J and am in love with it. Cheers Ted!
Ya I felt the same way. Was never into or watches and never really thought about them but once u start looking there is something very special about them.
Hope you piece has been treating u well, they are beautiful watches and tho I haven't owned mine for long, I absolutely love it
The seiko cocktail is what got me into watches! Glad you mostly liked them!
Exactly the same for me, I got interested in watches after my eyes went on the cocktail time! I have now the skydiver with power reserve (ssa343j1), I originally wanted to buy the 341 (the martini) but couldn’t find it anywhere here in the UK but have to say I am very happy with my Seiko and I am never tired to look at this dial!
A proud owner of cocktail time blue-moon here. what amazing dials Seiko put into this line!
I started taking an interest in watches last year after a client of mine bought me a Seiko SKX007 as a gift, I now have 6 watches and I am well and truly sucked into the addiction of horology
That is awesome James, Glad to hear you are enjoying this new hobby !!! Please consider checking out my new youtube channel. I would love to hear your opinions as a new collector.
The dials are lovely, but what I'm really mesmerised by are those gem-like blue hands.
You see them on the Grand Seikos as well, the blue on white is great a look!
I've recently acquired the Green one and the white one, both with leather straps. The Green one now has a Miltat Stainless bracelet, while the Green one has an alligator with the Hadley Roma Butterfly clasp. And for 'me', this is the ultimate combination....
When daddy teddy makes a video of a watch you already own 😩👌🏼
Love the macro shots in this video. Keep up the great work Teddy!
Thanks my friend!
Honestly these are some of the most beautiful watches at any price range! Great value and a good first "proper" watch.
You’re thinking about a watch for a whole day and..... BAMMMM! Teddy’s video for the exact same watch comes up the next day! Perfect video...Perfect Timing 😉
I dig the jacket, man. So befitting of a pairing with the Cocktail Time!
Thank you very much 🙌🏻
Yeah, teddy does have a good fashion sense
0:51 I too have this facial expression when I see these watches 😂
“Four hundred bucks? Quite a nice looking watch” pretty much sums it up. Great macro shots; though the blue second hand appeared translucent. It couldn’t be plastic, could it? Could have just been the lighting. Anyway, great video. Thanks, Teddy.
Thanks for watching buddy! No they are not plastic. They are steel and are painted blue. No heat treatment at this price range. The lights may have been playing some tricks.
I didn't appreciate ⌚ for a long time but couple yrs ago I fell in love with mechanical watches and bought a Seiko 5 and mojito cocktail time. Love both of them
Today I started my watch collection with the green srp37 this watch ⌚️ is stunning. Thanks for the review from Germany.
I have the SRPD46J1 which is beautiful and another example of Seiko punching well above their weight. Presage quality of finish is the nearest thing to Grand Seiko in the affordable price range. I have a 6 3/4 inch wrist and it wears perfectly. Fabulous value.
I have a "Japan" SARB065 w/ 6R15D, "Japan'" meaning japan-made and for japan only, its dial is a killer, any light, any season, it just shine.
The whole Cocktail Time série are killers, including "Made In Japan" 4R watches (4R35 and the exciting 4R57).
PS: my 6R15D was running consistently on COSC limits, wether it's on my wrist, on rest or on of my winders. Incredibly precise.
I have the light blue CT and love it. I want one in every color!
Great choices Teddy.
You really know your watches well.
Thank you for sharing with us my friend. Stay safe !
Appreciate it Keith! Thank you for watching and be well!
Hey Teddy. New fan here just getting into watches. I just got the SRPB77 and I love it. Thanks for all the content.
I have the blue one. It's beautiful. I got it for under $300 with coupons at Macy's. If Macy's is still a going concern after the lockdown, I would definitely check them out if you want the Seiko Cocktail Time.
Same here, got the green dial, great deal
@@diemes5463 what deal made it under $300?
The SRPB77 is the first watch that ever saw and just couldn’t get out of my mind. It’s definitely one of my favorite watches ever
its a cool one ! very cool it has that special meaning to you as the first watch you ever saw
Thanks for taking a look at these models, Teddy. The SRPB41 (blue dial) is my favorite, and I plan on picking one up some day. As for size, it's great for my 7-1/4" wrist, but I can understand people with small wrists wanting something more the size of the SARB033. I too would love a sapphire crystal, but I know that would jack up a price a fair amount with sapphire in that same domed shape. For those really concerned, Long Island Watch sells a sapphire replacement for this line for $99, but you'd probably want a watch maker to install it. Those movements being within 10 seconds a day is nice, and really more than I even expect for the price point.
GS SBGY003, the ultimate cocktail time. Please consider for your next review. It knows no equal...
I have this watch. It's a 3D cocktail. Ultimate indeed.
I also have the sbgm003. You have to see this in person to know why it's called the Grand cocktail.
If these were only a bit smaller I would've got one years ago. Always felt 38mm would be perfect. Thanks for the video.
there's new ones at 38mm now
38 looks kiddy on my normal size wrist.
Great analysis. Seiko Cocktail line, Presage line are some of the most attractive lower priced watches out there. The 4 movement could be updated, but frankly that might necessitate a price increase. I say leave well enough alone. The dial selections are amazing in their beauty for the price. Terrific dress watch for the money.
Agreed 100%. That 300-500 range is such a sweet spot for these watches to land in. Thanks for watching!
Cocktail is a nice addition to any collection. Blue and brown are dope as well.i am not much into 40+mm dials...but just own the cocktail brown dial limited edition.
I love that your video production values is now top notch. Well done teddy
I used to love these before the presage printing.
Yes they should remove it. It would make them more classy.
I dont mind it either way but I can see your point of view
I thought the same but then saw one in person and it’s just mesmerizing. It’s difficult to do these watches justice in video and pictures. Teddy does have a great presentation but it’s still not representative of how it looks imo due to scale and perspective if that makes any sense
I just bought the green one today as a smart casual and dress watch, which is most of the time wear for me. This is my first decent watch. I am concerned about it being "hardlex" mineral crystal, but I personally would like to see for myself if I can keep this in great condition over time - and I can always replace the crystal later if need be buying a sapphire replacement for wear and a hardlex when I want to retire this piece to collection and wear at certain dress times.
I am over the moon with the price point with the sexy texture on it. Dances in the light and the leather strap colour really does compliment the face, even more so by the contrast separation the case provides between the two. This watch is well thought out and brings watches back to basics with style and grace.
I have the SRPB43 and I absolutely love it. At 40mm it's not too big or small. I'm not even a dress watch guy and I love these Pressage models. As for the hardlex crystal on Seikos I'm not sure why so many people complain. Hardlex is Seikos "in house" design material. These crystals are manufactured, designed and installed by seiko for their watches. I appreciate that and value it.
Its just mineral glass. If i make shit inhouse, its still shit
Hello from France! Your great videos launched me into the watch universe, continue like this!
Greetings from
The states! Happy to help and welcome to this fun world of watches!
Great video! Just bought my Speedmaster and now you make me want to buy a cocktail time as well! 😂👍🏻
Haha, I'm in a similar but different situation - love my Cocktail Time to bits but still looking for a Speedmaster in my collection!
Awesome macro shots! I love the Seiko Cocktail Time. I only wear it for special occasions, but it’s truly a gorgeous watch. 😎
0:52 how you make Cleveland a cool place to live is unbelievable. 😮
I'm currently looking for my first dress watch, and you made a compelling case for these fellas. Awesome video, Teddy!
I have the cocktail time Blue moon which is basically the same with the most gorgeous blue dial. And the bracelet truly is one of the most comfortable I’ve worn.
Another terrific video. Your macro shots are incredible. Some of the best I’ve ever seen. I own the SRPB43J Ice Blue “Sky Diving” version. It’s gorgeous at any price point and receives more comments than my Submariner (which everyone assumes is a fake...) or Omegas. Seiko is hard to beat in this category at this price point. Keep up the great work.
My SRPB46J1 (Rose Gold) has been going great for 3 years now, love it!
One awesome video, Teddy! The macro is excellent!
I love my Sarb065.
Hey teddy, nice review. I think it is a good value, but in my country indonesia, you can find both for around 250-300usd. For 400+ usd you can still get the original sarb065 altough it is pretty rare nowadays.
As far as I know seiko price is all under retail here in southeast asia country. You can always find them 30% cheaper than from seiko authorized dealer
When I want to get a really good look at a watch this is the place
I want to start watch collecting since I'm in my final year of uni. You are amazing at helping me get into it!
The precision and finishing look amazing for $400.
Your content is really good and those editing skills!👌🏽 I love that you can wear these for multiple occasions!
Thank you my friend! And agreed on the pieces 👍🏻
A dress watch is the only watch that is truly an all around watch. You can wear a dress watch in a casual dressed down attire, I’m talking jeans and tee shirt, and then u can wear that same dress watch in a suit for a business dinner later on that same day, and it works just fine both times... you can’t wear a robust diver or chronograph in a sleek suit.
Love the shacket you’re wearing Teddy, and the macro shots were phenomenal!
... and I’d take the SRPD37, don’t have any green dial watch in my collection 😉
I quite like these ones but the case size is too big for a watch that has such a large dial/small bezel. If I were to buy one, I would go for the 34mm " ladies' " version. I feel it's a much classier size for a dressy piece like this one. Many people would probably like something in between these two sizes like you said - I would really like to see Seiko offer something in "midsize".
Check some vintage models, I just bought an 66-9990 from 1961 which is a modest 33mm across
Finally, someone said it. Just got the 34mm Espresso Martini and it fits my small wrist perfectly. It has such class! Not the biggest fan of the 'quality' of the bracelet if I were to nit-pick. Eventually I'l be looking for a leather strap and or new metal bracelet.
I used to think the same but I tried one on yesterday and it’s pretty decently sized imo. I will add I have a 7.25 inch wrist
@@mariog7213 I know this comment was super long ago but would you say the watch looked on the bigger side on your wrist? my wrists are even smaller at exactly 6 inches
I own a SSA343J1 and I still love it after years. Great watch!
Stellar video, Cocktail time is a great value but I see the same level in the Orient Star line for less money
I think they are very comparable. I like this offering from a design point of view more. Thanks for watching!
Teddy you really need to make a video about your clothing choices man. The texture on that jacket is to die for.
I have the older brother of these, the sary 081. I don't care about when it's "supposed to be worn, " I wear it every day and it's a joy. You randomly catch yourself looking at the dial. And that I feel is the point.
I’ve got an SRPC97J1 and it’s dial is absolutely stunning.
Fantastic watches! I have the Srpb41. Love it!
my wife loves her champagne version very much! although the bracelet feels comfy on the wrist, overall feel in the hand is rather cheap feeling. then again, we are talking about a 400$ watch. a switch to a quality alligator strap solved the issue for her and she gets tons of compliments on it at work. great value as mentioned!
Both are absolutely beautiful, and elegant. For the price I think I like a couple Bamboos as much as these beauties and in some cases maybe even more. Good vid Teddy. Well done. You are living the dream my friend.
I have a 10 piece modern Seiko collection, alas however, no Presage, but I do have 2 handsome kinetic dress watches on leather straps, and one of them have those same blue hands.. it’s a blue lacquer that pops off the dial in daylight.. such a simple detail with such a huge effect.
The rose gold case with the rich chocolate brown dial is a watch worth looking at. I’ve had non watch guys and gals both stop in the middle of the conversation and ask about the watch. Definitely a conversation starter, fantastic.
What you should mention is that in person the hardlex gives a bit of an undesirable glare. Wish they used just a bit AR coating
Teddy - I am convinced. I am buying one now! I appreciate the honest review.
Great video Teddy, Thanks! Great shots. Regards from Portugal
The white face with silver hands, date window delete and sapphire crystal would be an instant buy for me, even 2x the price.
Personally, I prefer the SSA341J1,
No date window, the date is displayed in a sub-dial at the 6 o'clock position & power indicator (I don't have a watch with that particular complication).
The dial may look a bit busy for some, but I dislike date windows especially on such an interesting dial.
Great to see you still making content, I appreciate it. Thank you.
The best camera work to date Teddy
Strapcode makes a nice aftermarket bracelet for the Cocktail times, the Angus Jubilee, which is an upgrade over the stock bracelet.
will have to look into that
My favourite is the one with the dark blue dial. SRPB41 to be exact.
The mockingbird green one, fuyugeshiki or sakura fubuki ones... There's so many to choose from. The newly released honey comb pattern is killer cool
I just bought one with the light blue dial and the glossy black leather strap that I’m immediately switching out
the cocktails are really beautiful
but, if there 1 flaw i can point out is, the size, i wish it was at max 38, 36 would be perfect
I have the new Zen Garden srpd97j1. It's 38mm and 11mm tk. Comes in sapphire glass too. The minutes hand is proportionate. The 4r can only carry a minute hand of that length . And, it's only $350. I also have the Grand cocktail sbgm003. This one has the 6r, so it can carry longer hands.
in Indonesia you could buy the SRPD37 from the official store for less than 300$
Thanks, Teddy. I own the SRPB43J1. I love it. I really wish more watch brands framed their date windows. It's a minor detail but now I've had watches with it, it ruins watches without it.
I was able to get my blue dial SRPB41 for about $250 new. Best bang for the buck ever.
These were released when I got sucked into watches and I kept looking at them ever since. Just today I purchased my own one (Blue Dial) before they get discontinued. Missed my chances to get a SARB017 and SARB033 new at list price back then and that won't happen again with sub $500 watches I keep looking at for months.
the problem with the presage line is that until you see them live, you cannot really understand how beautiful that dial is. The way it plays with light just doesn't translate to video.
Well said. Some thing look better in print some in person. This really is a watch you must see in person
Great shots of the dial, Teddy!
I have the mockingbird. Beautiful watch ($250 at Macy’s)
I just bought my first proper watch a day or two before my country imposed its quarantine guidelines / lockdown. I was choosing between this Mockingbird Presage and the green Alpinist. Prior to checking thedr two out, I couldn't care less about watches. I was rocking a smart watch. But then the Alpinist's green dial caughy my attention while walking around the mall. I'm a sucker for green accessories / objects. I picked it up and have since been obsessed with watches.
Hope you get to try out a Seiko SARY147. Fantastic dial and size at 38mm.
Great to see some more love to the Presage line. I have the Fuyugeshiki and always thought the Presage dials are ridiculous for their price. My Fuyugeshiki has some semblance to the Iwate dials of the Grand Seikos.
I have the champagne dial version of this watch. It looks more expensive than its price. The only thing I don't like about this watch is the leather strap. I swapped that out for an after-market option.
I love the blue dial
I have a Cocktail-time SRPB43J1 (which looks like the original), and it was my first Automatic watch. Very satisfied with the buy, looks like it's worth a LOT more than $400!
I'm not a Seiko fan... But Presage is beautiful... I really like it
I picked up a Seiko Presage “Skydiving” model at Seiko’s flagship store I’m Ginza 2 years ago. In retrospect, the green dial with brown strap “Mockingbird” is slight more my taste now, but just the same, the coloring that I bought I feel is very representative of many Japanese men in the look of watches that many of them wear. Which is to say, more simple and classic looks. I’ve found the build quality to be excellent for the price, as well as the look. The dial on mine appears almost white much of the time, but at different angles or in different light, has a much more light blue look. The one low point to the watch, although I do like its look, is the band. It isn’t the most flexible or comfortable to wear. It also clasps backward from most other watches that I’ve owned, but I think this is the style in Japan, so it makes it unique to me. Overall I’ve been very pleased with this watch through. I bought it primarily as a nice example of Japanese culture combined with my love of watches, and having bought it at the location that I did has made it even more special to me.
Amazing macro shots. Looks aside do you think the srpb71j1 is a better purchase than the srpb77 ?
i stuggled with getting one of the current cocktail time models or paying extra for the original one, the SARB065, and i'm glad i did get the SARB065. just don't like the presage font as opposed to the cursive font on the original, it looks so much cleaner for a dress watch. plus it's the original!!
I love your production!!! Great shots!
Really enjoy your channel...Keep up the excellent content Teddy!!!
I have the SRPB41 which is one of the earliest in the line, but I still believe to have the best colour. Put it on a black leather strap and it's definitely one of the most eye catching pieces in my collection
It’s a great watch! Enjoy it and thanks for watching 🙌🏻
beautiful shots
That green and gold....GO PACK GO!!!
I just got my hands on the "snowflake" power reserve presage limited edition.... It's unbelievable!!! The dial detail is incredible. Definitely under the radar as far as the presage line goes! :)
I loved the watch and the dial, I got one but the internet turned me down as they criticize the hardlex material
Teddy, I’m guessing the big ass, 47MM, Invicta Ocean Ghost II, salmon dial is too much watch for your wrist! But, it’s awesome!
I went with the dark blue dial. I consider blue as neutral.
I just picked up the dark blue too, beautiful watch.
@@Goob2112 Mine was supposed to arrive on 11 May - so just waiting.
Lovely watches, I have a SRPB46 and love everything about it!
I think the sarx or sdgm models are much better buys for 1-200 dollars more ....those dress style case designs blown up to 40mm look a little chunky and clumsy...the oyster style cases at 40mm look much more natural and look much better
I already had the srpb41j1 in my wish list... I think I will have to add the white dial now too...
