I love Gerald McRaney from the old "Simon and Simon" days. To see him play such a ruthless and despicable character with such relish is pure crack cocaine in an already incredible show packed to the rafters with staggering talent. Best show HBO ever did. Period.

Is that a Red Dead quote, or is it perhaps a quote from this time period? I remember that it is said in Red Dead 2 but it might also be that the character is quoting something else.
Anyways, it is a great line.

@@LoudaroundLincoln I remember that it's Dutch, I believe he says it to agent Milton. But I was wondering if it might be a quote from the 1800s.

LordKoehler_TheImpaler....because Odell had the location of the deposits, simple, brutal stuff. Hearst did not GAF about anyone who was in his way, he bought up most of the claims via his agent in season 2, and finally got Alma after killing Elllsworth to sell, but Alma had already accumulated massive wealth from her diggings already and set up the Deadwood Bank. Although Alma mined with Ellsworth's help all the gold from the quartz, she did sink only a single well and that one well saw her mine massive amounts and she'd already transported again huge, massive quantities to a central city, so she was a millionaire already from her mining [and as the only lender of big money in Deadwood her new bank that by the movie we learn a decade later has expanded even more as she oversaw it from a different city] but Hearst knew, and Ellsworth told this to her that she could/should be running at least 25 shafts to REALLY fully exploit her fins it was that massive, but Heart knew this too from his agent and in the end he got a massive amount and drained it dry sinking a huge operation/number of shafts and work force into mining those huge deposits that Alma was unable to get herself. So in the end sure Hearst won control of her claim, and all the other claims, some which were also massive but she did not walk away poor, she was a financial giant for a woman at the time. It was her decision to leave the camp, she had 2 options, fight him and stay in the camp, and the camp would've been subjected to a civil war as Pinkerton's had already massed working for Hearst and Al and Seth just did not and could not match Heart's muscle. Brilliant series, acting, writing, cinematography just sublime, and it was part factual and part fiction. Bullock was a legend in law enforcement, a life long friend of Teddy Roosevelt, and his story could fill another series alone, while Heart's influence was akin to the giants of the Rockerfeller family and other industrial and industry giants as the turn of the century came fast and change was rapid as was technological invention. Gerald McRaney is a brilliant actor, he nailed Hearst. Vale 'the captain', minus one eye.

@@dt4236 The argument that is oft used in this country to avoid any hint of socialism is everyone "earned it". True some did but the seat of wealth has just been handed down from generation to generation and as an American ideal of fairness it does not cut the muster. The hated government attempted to level the playing field with such items as estate tax and progressive taxation but the right wing as deftly co-opted the Christian right and fears of "socialism" to stymy any real progress. I accept this as they way it is from those that make it so, my anger is at those least benefitted by those in power are voting against there own interest and values of fair play. Duped, hoodwinked? yeah sad but true. I do praise America for at least caring enough to have social security and roads and mail, food stamps, infrastructure and the rest of these "socialist" things.
