    A couple of weeks ago we gave an introduction to a hydraulic diverter kit for our 1025R from Summit Hydraulics. This device allows you to divert hydraulic flow, acting as a third function on your tractor. This week we installed it, and show you step-by-step instructions so that by watching, you can have a bit of extra assurance that you're able to do it yourself, and able to do it quickly (spoiler: you definitely can). This particular kit from Summit Hydraulics came ready for our 1025R, and in just a little time we were up and running with a new option for a hydraulic grapple or plow.

    As a Millwright (industrial mechanic) I'd like to have channel locks banned because they do SO MUCH damage and on frequently adjusted fittings, eventually destroy them.

    I added one of these to a 3025e with a D160 loader. There is only one way the hydraulic circuits will work, and it results in the control handle go what would be the intuitive movement. In other word, to clamp down with the grapple, you have to move the dump direction. Reversing hose results in the grapple locking up. I studied the hydraulic circuit and determined there are check valves that keep the bucket from falling in the event of a blown hose.
    I also had trouble with the grapple losing its grip on the load. I finally purchased the full third function valve that works off the power beyond circuit. That works great. I’m about to try the diverted valve again on a 5300 with a 540 loader. Not sure the check valves exist on it since the loader is hosed to the 2 rear SCV. Wells see.

    If we need the several extra rear hydraulic connections in the rear anyway, is there any way to tie into that bank of outlets then route the front hoses about the same way with quick disconnects to hoses routed to the rear? I’m a little hung up on how the electrical would tie in but is it possible that a three position toggle (pinch/off/release) could be placed almost anywhere such as on the steering wheel eliminating the new joystick and sacrificing the ability to tilt and pinch/release simultaneously?
    Whew that was a mouthful but I have a root grapple on order and have about a month to figure this out. BTW I’ve got the newer large frame 2038R with backhoe. Nice videos and thanks for any advice!

  • @blackhawkinternationalsecu6962

    I've got a diverter kit for my 1023. It went on pretty easy. The hardest part was running the wires and keeping them out of the way and secure.
    Absolute best part; after my wife has been running the grapple for a little while, I'll swap the two line on the front of the loader so the grapple will open instead of close. Ah, the puzzled look on her face, priceless.

    I am almost done with this installation on my 2016 1023e and was glad I found your video. I agree it would be nice if the hoses were labeled, but they do reference them by length so not to hard to figure out. All I have left to do is the electrical connections and one thing that I did to make the positioning of the joystick handle correct was to buy a 10mm x1.5 nut and thread that on the loader control first then I could position the joy stick and tighten both fittings together. Basically double nutting. Less dangerous than possibly over tightening the fitting that came with the kit.

    It looks like a good kit. Not sure what the price is. I added a John Deere 3rd Function SCV to my 2025R. I know Deere makes a kit for the 1025R too but don’t think they have one yet for the 2032R/2038R. I paid $1025 for my Deere kit and did the install myself. My dealer mentioned 5 hours to install it; I have probably 15+ hours in it. The Deere kit is not a diverter but has an up or down switch in the end of the loader control joystick. I’m not knocking the Summit kit; it looks like a great kit for the budget minded and it will do the job for those unwilling to fork over the Deere price. I would like to point out that for the difference in price, the Deere kit has a cleaner install. Just two additional quick couplers below the right floorboard, less lines hanging on the loader frame, the SCV itself is hidden under the tractor instead of the diverter hanging on the loader frame, the quick connects on the front of the loader frame don’t have lots of extra hose to catch on anything and all the electrical neatly routes from the joystick under the fender/floorboards and hooks on the existing electrical block on the engine side of the firewall. The Deere kit also includes hard lines as opposed to rubber hoses that follow existing hard lines with standoffs on the loader frame. With the Deere kit, prepare to take a lot of the tractor apart to install it and take your time. As Courtney said, if I can put it on (the Deere kit that is), anyone can do it. For me the other alternative was an Artillian diverter and it was $740 plus the push button control knob for another $90 making it almost a toss up for me between it or the Deere kit. WR Long also makes a 3rd Function SCV too, not a diverter and while it seems equally as complicated as the Deere kit, it is somewhat cheaper. Look at all the options before you purchase.

    Any reason you didn't run the new hoses in a protective sleeve?
    Odd that they have the valves reversed from what would seem "normal". You originally connected them as I think they SHOULD be designed. Why wrap 4 hoses around the valve rather than going to the near side with shorter hoses?
    Interesting that the quick couplers on my Mahindra are female on the hoses, the Deere are male. I don't know if there is a reason for the difference.

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  Před 3 lety

      The new hoses wouldn't fit with how it's configured. That's the way the valve comes I guess, so that's the reason for the orientation.

  • @stevog4422
    @stevog4422 Před 3 lety +1

    Why not mount the diverter upside down? The hoses would then connect as you originally thought they should. I can’t imagine that the diverter cares what orientation it is mounted. Maybe you can ask Summit. Would make the new hoses even shorter.

    A few thoughts after watching the video, these hoses could all be shorter for a cleaner, less obstructed install. This is a good prototype though.
    The 3rd function line going to the loader should be straight not looped around to face the other direction. It's just more hose to get caught on something.

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  Před 3 lety +1

      Maybe. Need to have some flexibility in there. Hoses mount on opposite sides so if they are too short, then they might restrict flow at the bends.
