      Same here especially catacombs. I know the dead rest there and bones. It's terrifying even seeing it in movies and documentary movies. I could never go in there not even for all the money in the world. Evil or something sinister lurks in there, that doesn't want to be bothered or will kill you. Those arrows are sketchy and once seeing that I would've retreated cause could be a ruse and exactly what happened to this poor guy. Rip.

    One can actually easily access the Paris catacombs. I would never recommend this. These tunnels have an estimated length of 180 miles. I've had my experiences before social media. They are ancient sewers combined with ancient burial systems. I've witnessed them in several countries. Do not go down there. GPS does not work, One must literally line their position with a chord, or they will loose location. I've snuck down there. I noped out. Not because I was afraid of morbid exposure, I immediately realiized without adequate equipment, it was impossible to navigate.

    • @Dilligff
      @Dilligff Před 5 měsíci +29

      I wouldn't say it is easily accessible now as there has been some considerable efforts in the past decade or so to seal off any entrances found, which unfortunately has the side effect of removing potential egresses as well for those unfortunate enough to become trapped. I'm surprised, especially given our advances in technology, that no official efforts has been put forth to map out the catacombs, as I'm sure there is a wealth of archaeological data to be gained and it would create the side benefit of potential 'virtual' explorations to dissuade people from physically entering them.

    Personally, I think the only way that we're going to keep people from getting lost in the Paris catacombs is just give the urban explorers what they want. They want to explore, let them. Allow them to apply for permits to enter the catacombs at their own risk and document them. If they can do that, then we will likely have better maps and find far fewer people lost. And when someone does get lost, we have a better chance of locating them.

    I actually remember quite a bit about this. And some people seem skeptical being someone managed to find the footage. And how he got there if it was unexplored. The thing is people get trapped down there constantly. They get lost and end up deeper and deeper into the tunnels. And many have been stuck down there for days or weeks before being found. That or not at all. There’s a guy that does tours in the searched part of the areas where he remembers his way around. He also told a story about how a girl went to climb one of the ladders to get out and a step broke on her and she fell and broke her leg. I think he said she was trapped down there for a week or two before firemen found her. But it was because she went exploring on her own and leaving her group when she wasn’t supposed too. So it’s very easy to get lost and separated in the tunnels. Which is why majority of it is off limits to the public and most entrances have been blocked to avoid more missing persons and injuries, along with deaths.

      In the 1970s my Dad and his best friend went to Turkey on an archeological dig, where exchange for the cost of the trip you would work during the day doing the basic digging etc. work for the dig. On one of their days off they went exploring somewhere. They found a tunnel in the middle of nowhere and decided to go in. It keep getting smaller and smaller until it got to the point where they were on their bellies having some trouble getting their bodies through. They realised that if they or the one on the end, got stuck or something happened like an earthquake or medical emergency that we (their families) would never ever know how or where they disappeared. So they backed out. Yeah, only the parts you have access to. There's miles of tunnels that are restricted to the public that are pitch black and mostly unmapped and/or unknown. Therefore, unless you know your way around mazes like Theseus, it's a death sentence because you'll most likely get lost and probably perish. Makes it even scarier considering you're in a place surrounded by human remains.
      I bet the tour is pretty sick tho :D

      Yes, for the tourist portion it is well lit, etc etc. however, you do realize there’s more to the catacombs than what you saw, right? And this dude being a local most likely didn’t pay a fee and go on the tour- he went in one of the many other entrances that are still there, just not advertised.
