In that swtor book where Malgus took on Zallow, I remember how more epic it made the trailer. It was so beautifully descripted and really showed how much GOOD of a sith Malgus was. As well as he respected Zallow eyeing him down. Good read man.
Fun fact most don’t realize:
Qui-Gon was older in Ep1 than Kenobi was when he died in Ep4 by 1-2 years.

Qui-Gon gets a lot of undeserved flack. If you look at his fight with Maul on paper, he should have been killed in the first minute.
Inferiour physicality? Check
Fighting in areas where movement is severely limited? Check
Unfamiliar opponent with a weapon pretty much nonexistant in that era? Check
First real Sith in forever? Check
Going by this, Qui-Gon had no business being close to Maul, let alone actually contending and even occasionally gaining ground.
He's not one of the alltime greats, but he's MUCH better than most people give him credit for.
Motoruven I know right, jinn probably would've killed maul too if he didn't lead him to that Lil room where jinns former was compromised so badly
he did it to press the offensive thinking he could beat Maul if he didn't have time to recover, we don't see it in the movie but he injured maul quite a bit, sears and a few cuts nothing heavy, but enough to make him press the attack. There's another reason though its not really stated just a theory, but if you watch the duel of fates again, there's a part where obi wan starts to rush in and Qui-Gon blocks a strike from maul that would have killed him so I think that he pushed maul to get him away from obi wan, maybe even to get maul in the circular room so they could flank him on either side. Again merely just a theory.

The fact that Maul was struggling and had to use basically a sucker punch to kill him should tell you do not screw with him
Motoruven That's a pretty good point. When you consider how many fan's excuse for Kit Fisto's quick loss to Sidious was because of bad/limited terrain for his fighting style, Qui-Gon by comparison makes Fisto look like a padawan, and that's some high praise.
Although, I often disagree with Fisto's verdict and contribute it more to Sidious just being overwhelming in combat, but I'm pretty sure EvanNova95 stands by the Fisto excuse, so he should apply it to Qui-Gon (although I still think Maul would beat Qui-Gon even if he wasn't at a disadvantage).
Wolfgod 64 Not really sure considering Qui-gon was describe to be Maul's greatest opponent by Maul himself so yeah not to mention Qui-gon was pushing 60 while Maul was actually younger than Obi-wan so by all means Qui-gon without disadvantage should beat Maul

jensarai's sound is too low compared to evanova's louder sound...
The sound issue really came down to the equipment we use. My Mic is more sensitive then Connor's plus his voice is naturally deeper then mine. Also the audio he sent me was so quite that if i turned it up to much it would cause speaker feedback. I apologize if its distracting but believe me i synced them up the best I could.

Asajj Ventress isn’t winning at a 30 percent success rate against Maul…. She is winning a 0% percent success rate being one of the least component lightsaber wielders for example Dave Filoni confirmed Obi Wan toys with her in his duels and doesn’t view her as a threat in combat he literally plays with her….

She got beaten by a Count Dooku in 8 second duel…. She was utterly ragdolled by Yoda…. She lost to a blinded Dooku with two other partners…. Asajj Ventress is the most overrated duelist in lore she in Nick Gillard tier system Obi Wan (AOCT) is a level 7…. TCW movie where Ventress is confirmed to have not been a threat to Obi Wan was a level 7…. This means that Ventress at most is a level 5 since we know Qui Gon (level 7) was atleats able to threaten Level 8 Maul to the degree that he wasn’t comfortably toying…. On top of that she lost to Savage Opress who Maul was able to one shot stomp
Jensaarai's volume was way to quiet
Truth be told, I am surprised Qui-Gon was victorious. Not because of the reasons that lead to his victory, its just that after seeing through so many versus series battles with Qui-Gon across your channels (Eva, Jen, GreyJedi, Antoine), I actually can´t remember the last time he came out triumphant against anyone else.
In my opinion the reason why he often losses is because he is often put up against duelists who have had opportunities to evolve during the clone wars and later on. Obi-Wan Kenobi for example started out as a pure Ataru fighter but during the clone wars he refined himself being a primary Soreesu master and though he didn't master other forms he still used Ataru and others as back ups. If Qui-gon had survived his fight with Maul there is little doubt in my mind that he would have continued to evolve as a fighter and thus wouldn't lose as often. He stands an excellent chance against most duelists from before the Clone Wars (as shown by this match) or who are long past their prime (like Old Ben Kenobi) but he will likely lose every time he is confronted by an opponent from during or after the Clone Wars.

@@savagenature1 You're underestimating Qui Gon. His skill as a fighter was not why he lost. Maul simply outsmarted him, barely, and you cant blame Qui Gon. He had every disadvantage there was and yet was still on equal ground with Maul the whole fight. So, Mauls weapon first off was almost unheard of. Qui Gon likely had no experience against it. Maul has trained since he was a kid to kill people like Qui Gon. The Jedi didnt expect to fight again, they thought the sith were completely wiped out.
Maul was much, much younger and still in his physical prime, while Qui Gon was past his prime. Also Qui Gons form doesn't do well in small areas. Maul managed to separate Obi Wan and Qui Gon so he could pick them off one by one. Maul studied the Jedi to find weaknesses so he could win. He often took trips to coruscant with Palpatine to study them. Despite all this Qui Gon nearly prevailed, he was pressing Maul hard and could've won. Qui Gons form was fine, he mastered it. Obi wan even said that Qui Gon was the finest swordsmen he's ever seen. A lot of people underestimate Qui Gon.
15:48 Yes he was, in the Deceived novelization, he sends Lord Adraas flying, granted while he was trying to get in between Malgus and him. And there's a sheet where he's attributed with Tutaminis (probably blaster-level), Resist Stun, Force Heal, Battle Meditation, Breath Control just like Qui Gon and "Dim another's senses", perhaps a slightly less powerful version of Mind Shard ?
But yeah, this video being dated, these oversights are acceptable.
I remember watching previous videos with Qui-gon when all of you guys claimed that he was "predictable"... Dooku pretty much learned all of Ataru's weaknesses because of his many duels with Qui-gon and nothing more. I like how Qui-gon changed his style of fighting. His Ataru style is actually close to being similar to Makashi.
Ven Zallow is one of the best... He went toe to toe with Malgus and almost won.

I had one issue in regards in your evaluation of Zallow, How can a renowned swordmaster of one's era be declared a master when he only has practical skill with an incomplete martial art? Obviously I think we are missing pieces here. I think your analysis of his usage of ataru is completely accurate given the information. But I would like suggest that it would make sense, given your analysis of his combat style, that he was simply fighting that way since in that situation ataru is most effective. Though something has to be said about how often he leaves himself vulnerable as exploited by Malgus. Hope I made sense, and i love your videos!!!!

I totally agree, +Shelli Lalime Sullivan. The lack of info makes this one hard to call, but actually believe that Zallow would have won, based on his greater experience and clearly superior capabilities in combat.

Finally you get the lightsaber analysis right! In (almost) every other versus video I've seen from your group, it is just "This character is better, here is why", but this video seemed to have a good back and forth feel, that not only related the combative applications of each contestant's styles, but had a very give and take feel, making the analysis feel like an actual battle. A+ Job guys!
That’s the thing about putting two Ataru masters against each other, one variation is said to be better then basic version
Has anyone else heard Jensaari's description of Qui Gon and thought that none of what he describes sounds like Ataru, but something meant more for open battlefield engagements. Now I know that Qui Gon's cannon form is Ataru, but between all the material I've read about both Jinn himself, and the lightsaber forms, I think that he is actually using Shii-Cho. Now I know you guys already answered a similar statement in another video concerning Jinn, but if you look his use of heavy strikes, long sweeps, high effectiveness against multiple attackers, his stating that he was an instrument of the force itself, lack of acrobatics unless absolutely necessary, and his reputation as a great swordsman. It just seems to me that Shii-Cho is a better fit.

I've seen the SWTOR digital brochure and in the film Zallow matched Malgus's hybrid form blow for blow until he fell for Malgus's faint. But had a good defence.

sharangcool no problem!!! I just thought it would be cool to see an avid practitioner of sith sorcery stacked up against the dark lady lumiya. Personally i think while lumiya's lightwhip will give her an edge due to it's unpredictable nature, zannah's natural talent for sith spell would help level the playing field.

KyleMC 22 he is actually a maul level opponent. Zallow is actually likely stronger than maul based on feats. So I don’t know why qui gon won. No one in the prequels era aside from mace, anakin, Obi Wan, Dooku, palpatine, and yoda should be able to beat him.
Fantastic episode guys, the end of the saber the verdict was so well thought of and executed very exquisitely in great detail. I used to think Qui Gon was a little dull; this video, however, changed my view of him COMPLETELY.
Always thought of Qui Gon as the consular type, not specialised in ligthsaber combat, but a better force wielder, while Kenobi is the jedi knight archetype.
Was expecting him to lose in a fight against a jedi knight, by what we can tell from his cloths and armor (Zallow)

Theres a part of me that would love to see these two duels. Eeth Koth vs Agen Kolar due to the fact that they are both Zabrak Masters who sat on the Council with Kolar replacing Koth due to actors switching. The other being Darth Malgus vs Darth Kryat/A'Sharad Hett due to them both being important and powerful Sith Lords of their eras that ushered in Sith Empires.

Glad to see a battle that qui-gon is well suited for, as he tends to get stomped in most of his appearances. It's nice to see justification for his reputation as a master duelist, even against an opponent who has spent almost a decade fighting the Sith.

Zallow's entry sheet on SWTOR Galaxy's Guide says "Dim another's senses", Battle Meditation, "Remain Conscious" which is probably Crucitorn, Instinctive Astrogation, and Resist Stun. It's not much, but that's a little bit of info on what he could do.

That's a great video, love how you share your opinions on versus videos. I am more in for a cyan-bladed curved-hilt lightsaber, because I value fighting with one hand while brandishing; therefore the curvature can give unpredictable attacks that can turn the tide of battle. A cyan lightsaber symbolizes high devotion to the force while having excellent combat skills.

As always, your conclusions, and the reasoning behind those conclusions, are solid and believable. You guys have lost nothing in this collaborative effort (except perhaps audio consistency).
One question I would like to pose: Jensaarai said that Mace Windu had not only mastered his chosen form (Juyo), but that he had effectively completed the form, addressing the one notable weakness of Form VII - susceptibility to Force attacks. Could an argument be made that Qui-Gon Jinn did the same thing for Ataru that Mace Windu did for Juyo? Had Qui-Gon survived the duel with Darth Maul and lived through the Clone Wars, might his rendition of Ataru have become the new standard by which Form IV would be taught to Jedi?
It’s more likely his ground based Ataru would go down as a variation, a “if you’re exhausted from normal Ataru, use Jin’s variation” But yes I agree that Jin’s Ataru variation is better then normal Ataru
Ven Zallow was able to stand up to Darth Malgus, which I believe was the Sith Battlemaster. He was the greatest Djem So master at the time. Although Malgus did kill Ven Zallow, he did it through fighting him hard. Ven Zallow was the Anakin Skywalker of this era (except this version stays at the same strength as the Skywalker of Episode 3). If Qui-Gon faced Malgus, he would have been killed far quicker.

Would you please do a Starkiller(FUII) vs Satele Shan. Here are my reasons:
1. Both are good practitioners of niman, and I believe ataru.
2. Both are known to use the force to augment their speed.
3. Both have knowledge of both the light side and the dark side, I say this because Satele's master had an interest in the dark side.
4. Both are very strong with the force.
5. Both defeated their most powerful adversaries using their force abilities.
6. Satele's mastery of tutaminis could be able to counter Starkiller's lightning.
I believe that this is an even match, with Satele having an edge as a duelist and Starkiller having a slight edge as a force user when and if he uses dark rage.
Please respond to tell me what you think.
Satele Shan in what age? If it's for Grand Master Satele Shan, Starkiller (FUII) might loss marginally.

Vader would slaughter stomp Satele in terms of dueling skills. Marek is superior.
Relax Vader, the only reason I gave the edge to Satele as a duelist was due to experience. Also, remember that Galen defeated you before A New Hope, where you were considered a "shadow of your former self", as said by the Emperor, you were constantly training to the point that when you fought Starkiller, Marek's clone, you were much stronger in the force and more skilled as a duelist and you made you suit able to resist lightning, though it wasn't very useful against the emperor's lightning, I believe that that battle took place after ESB and before ROTJ. Basically, if you rematched Marek in some alternate universe in the time ROTJ, you would've won indefinitely. And of course you could beat Satele, hell, you could beat Malgus.
Shan survived the encounter with Malgus because a trooper caught I. Of guard and was exploded by a grenade giving Shan time to make a powerful force blast. If the grenade never explode Malgus can dodge you blast or the push. If the trooper never came Malgus would break her totaminus and finish her. She was losing the entire time
Very awesome video guys. Loved the collaboration. Don't know if anyone has done the Luke Skywalker vs. Sidious battle had they actually engaged each other in such fashion?
You make too many assumptions on battlefield experience. Just because one is heavily involved in the battlefield dosen't take away any form of incentive to innovate. On the contrary, it gives way more incentive to innovate because utilizing an unfamiliar form against an opponent, who is so experienced in fighting the old fashioned way, will be taken off guard. Innovation is the key to victory when heavily involved in the battlefield, so there should be a lot of incentive to innovate. This is shown when Ven Zallow managed to surprise Darth Malgus with his lethally flamboyant bladework, even managing to stun him in the chin, only falling when Malgus exploited a small opening when Ven Zallow attempted to lunge for the kill.
We only have one scene when Ven Zallow is involved, and the impression I get from him is that he is very flexible when it comes to adapting to different situations. While he might not be Malgus' equal in terms of the saber, he is definitely on Malgus' league. And let me get this clear. Qui Gon CANNOT take on Darth Malgus. Old Republic Jedi and Sith are underrated in terms of skill if they are not well known, and Ven Zallow is one of them.
Ven Zallow is clearly more powerful than what you have pictured him as. Whether he is superior to Qui Gon is debatable, but he is at the very least his equal in terms of the saber, and more durable in combat.
Qui-gon would give Malgus a better fight and what has Ven Zallow done to suggest that he is capable of adapting and changing his style?
The problem is we don’t SEE this from Zillow, we don’t know how he’d handle other fights
I completely agree constantly fighting in battles forces you to innovate in every way, just like how mace windy and obi wan’s strength doubled after the clone wars. Zallow was able to take out at least four other Sith Lords within seconds before confronting Magus. Can qui gon Jihn say that he’s done that? Zallow just has overall more experience and knowledge which is why I think their skill gap is not that far.

Ven Zallow never stunned Malgus. Malgus FAKED being stunned to give himself the opening to kill Ven Zallow. I'm pretty sure this was said in some kind of novel, Evan has used it alot in his videos with Zallow and Malgus.
More durable in combat? Wheres your proof for that claim? That's not even fair to compare durability, as Maul never used his force abilities in their duel, while Malgus was throwing around Ven Zallow. Qui Gon got kicked once and shrugged it off like it was nothing. And I do believe Ven Zallow is Malgus' equal with a saber. The cinematic speaks for itself. However, there's no proof that Qui Gon couldn't keep pace with Malgus, even at his age. He's known as one of the most skilled duelists and most powerful force users of his era. He was trained by Dooku ffs. It's actually impressive that he lasted so long against Maul when you look at all the disadvantages that he had.
Mauls double bladed weapon was nearly unheard of in the Jedi order, and Qui Gon Likely had no experience fighting against it.
Maul studied the Jedi with Palpatine. He likely knew Qui Gons style and how to counter it exactly. He trained from almost birth to kill people like Qui Gon, while the Jedi were completely unprepared as there was peace for 1000 years and they thought the sith were completely destroyed.
Maul separated Qui Gon and Obi wan most of the fight.
Qui Gons form is the most physically taxing form AND isn't great in small area.
Ven Zallow is a great duelist but I see Qui Gon winning 7/10.

Also I think youband the rest of the Council forcecast should organize a Vs tournament. By throwing 40-50 favorites in a hat and randomly drawing them to decide the first string. I think this would be an interesting and fun idea that you all could Multi host through your various channels. I know that is a tall order but imagine the possibilities. Heheheh

Great break down guys the audio for the second commentator was terrible though hahaha but I put up with it for the intricacy and depth that you gave to the match up. Qui-Gon Jin is my favorite Jedi so I was happy to see him pull it out as well. I've always said that if you watch that fight with Darth Maul closely I believe Jin would have defeated Maul at the start had Obi-Wan not been there but could just be my biased opinion hahaha Anyways really enjoyed the video thank you

As much as I am not a Jinn fan I finally see why you all use him so much. Likewise overhauling Ataru was genius on Jinn's part. Not to mention his ability to exploit chaos in battle is awesome as well as using Aturu with a Makashi mentality.

The sound issue really came down to the equipment we use. My Mic is more sensitive then Connor's plus his voice is naturally deeper then mine. Also the audio he sent me was so quite that if i turned it up to much it would cause speaker feedback. I apologize if its distracting but believe me i synced them up the best I could.

General Grievous isnt a force sensitive. so i doubt that its going to happen. Darth Maul on the other hand would be very interesting

While I may argue that a couple of Qui-Gon's other Force abilities were left out in this video (please check out the Wookieepedia article), I approve the result. Qui-Gon seems to be the wiser duelist. Comes with being the apprentice of Count Dooku.

Caedus would likely win this fight, unorthodox weaponry isn't likely to work against such a talented and experienced lightsaber duelist and Caedus surpasses Kun both in terms of physicality and as a force user. The only wild card for Kun is his amulet

Unfortunately, the audio differences stems from both our natural tones and the Mic's we use. My setup is more sensitive then Connors so the audio gets picked up easier. Not to mention Connor just has a deeper voice then I do. I tried to sync them up the best I could but if I raised the volume on Connor's too high then you get feed back from the speakers and if I put mine too low you can't hear me. I apologize for the in-conveyance but this was the beast we could do.

I think the problem is that he's portrayed as nearly invincible. There aren't many people who could challenge him other than the ones he already fought in the books.
I think characters like mace and the count could definitely challenge him

Hi Evan. I have a question. Can you make Yoda vs. Sidious video? I know, there was a fight between them in SW III, but I think that this fight should be different. Why? First, Yoda couldn't kill emperor because of the 4, 5 and 6 episodes where emperor lives so it was clear that Sidious can't lose. Second, Yoda stop fighting and I don't know why. He was pushed away by the blast but he was still alive and he was avaible to fight longer. Can you make this vs video? (I hope my english isn't that bad and you can understand everthing :) ).
