    Hello! This week's video is a little narrated painting video! I thought I try something a little different this time around and talk you through what goes on through my head while I do a painting. For July Patreon rewards, all the artwork is based on vintage packaging/ads! Join within July and get a print of this painting!! I've been pretty absent from CZcams, but I'm gonna work hard to being more active and (hopefully) post once a week! I'm so close to getting monetized! Please share, like, and subscribe!! :^)

    Love hearing your thought process when approaching colour. :) Also your instagram is not as haphazard as you think. It actually really reflects the variety of art genres that you like and that is refreshing to see. It tells us alot about you as an artist. Limiting yourself can be so suffocating and it doesn't really allow for personal growth. Keep exploring. Keep sharing what you want to share in that moment in time.
    Hope you're doing well! Thanks for sharing your art with us. :)

    100% right there with you on liking a lot of things and feeling weird about not having a brand like other artists. Your work is lovely, keep striving and doing what you like to do!

    But if you change the look and feel of your Instagram. Then you'll just be like everybody else. I think your account is beautiful and i love that it changes and grows the same way you do as a person. 😊❤️

    Your brain and technique is so similar to mine. My biggest problem is keeping my acryla gouache wet. How do you do it? Also do you mix your colors together with water like you would with regular gouache or just straight out of the bottle then mix?

    • @megguran
      @megguran  Před 2 lety +3

      I place a wet paper towel underneath some parchment paper in a butcher pan to keep my paint wet the entire painting session! I also treat this paint somewhat like regular gouache by mixing it with a little water to get the consistency I like. It tends to be a bit thick straight out the tube. I show a little bit of how I do this in an older video called "PAINTING TIPS: How to Paint with Holbein Acryla Gouache" czcams.com/video/ndaZK9YWMnA/video.html hope this helps! :^)

    Interesting and very nice work! I heard that for mixed media that this Acrylic Gouache is not really suitable for finishing with color pencils, any thoughts on that?!.. I know that traditional Gouache or Watercolor is allowing color pencils very well and almost seems like it is made to work together.. But the pencils become dull on top of this acrylic gouache and so people recommend Flashe Vinyl over Acrylic Gouache.. If only the acrylic Gouache would take pencils just like traditional gouache or like Flashe Vinyl, it would actually be the most premium art medium.. What I do like much about Acrylic Gouache over traditional, is less color change when dry, more cheap than traditional gouache, it does not crackle being flexible, less brush stroke textures and it does not reactivate after drying.. Though the big downside is that it does not take pencil/mixed media, which is huge if not able to potentially be the base layer for hyper realistic pencil drawing and or just semi realistic pencil renderings ect.. It just seems like acrylic gouache is purely made to work on its own.. So the search for my desired workflow medium keeps hitting dead ends..

      Oh! Interesting! I haven't heard about that before. Maybe for archival reasons that it isn't suitable? I am not very sure. I didn't really have an issue going into my acrylic gouache paintings with color pencil, however I don't use a lot. It's really just to touch up any areas of shadow for a more textured blend, but I found the acrylic gouache to have a nice velvet texture when it is dried for color pencil! To each their own methods I suppose!

      @@megguran Hey thank you for reaching out and yes for sure for each there own methods, just being curious here =) many artists use pencils to finish the whole painting in there workflow not only touch ups.. Mostly for hyper and or semi realistic art ect they use watercolor and gouache for base layer only to setup light, shadow and color tones, to then draw on top with pencils until finished.. That is more like considered the basic method for full blown mixed media where also fineline inks ect can come into play.. Anyway another channel 'Moni Dmajor' has a comparison video that shows the surface difference, if you are interested in this eye opener, that is called: Colored Pencils over Acryla Gouache? Try Flashe Paint, instead! Swatching & Testing Demo
