  • This mini ammo can battery box just continues to grow on me. Video covers comparison to one of my bigger cans as well as charging through the SAE port. Smaller is better. Check it out, 11 DIY how to videos later on the MINI Ammo Can, here we are.

    One suggestion for this might be a video to add a secondary small ammo can with just a battery that can be daisy chained to this project to double the AH of the kit.

      Bradley, you're one smart man.. Wait until you get a look at the new project I'm working on. .. I was planning on building it first then unveiling it, but since you mentioned it, I'm going to be doing a design build as we go along.... Thank you for the inspiration! Thanks for watching.

      @@thisoldmanchannel you are too kind. I have enjoyed your approach to the build design and details. I will mainly use this for ham radio and such. I like the small portable box you have designed but for extended activities an additional battery or two would be nice. I have started to gather the components to build one and follow along. 🤙🏼

      Hey Marty, thank you for commenting... Publishing a parts list after the fact is kinda hard since a lot of items are purchased on eBay and don't have designated part numbers and quantities are all over place so you'll end up buying more stuff than you actually need. I pretty much show everything that I used so start at the beginning. You might end up buying stuff and building something that more uniquely fits your needs and taste. Thanks for watching man!

      @@janiceemery2008 Janice it's not exactly rocket science, anybody can build one. I don't have any real skills.. Just tripping ignorantly through life trying stuff and failing miserably and trying again. That being said, I think there's an even better idea out there that's far simpler than building an outlet box with a self contained battery.. I'm going to shoot that video this weekend and post it.

      Casey you're 100 percent right! So people built bigger cans and more batteries, including me. Check out my build for the Universal Ammo Can Battery Box. It's really a distribution box with no battery that works off any external 12V. See what you think. Thanks for commenting!

    I HATE asking you questions because I know you are busy. But I ran into a snag and I really need help. On the above video at time stamp 3:47 you show a receptacle attached to your box for the charger plug. I have scoured the net including the Battery Tender website in search of this receptacle to no avail. Where can I find one? As always Thank You for your knowledge and time>

    When storing in you vehicle for long periods of time, do you have/recommend a DC\DC charger?

    • @thisoldmanchannel
      @thisoldmanchannel  Před 2 lety +2

      That's actually an excellent idea and I did some casual research on it and only solution I found was using a power inverter to plug a charger into... Typically, what I do is periodically check the voltage on the inboard meter and charge as necessary or after heavy use like running a tire inflator.

      @@thisoldmanchannel You be perfectly fine just plugging SLA batteries into the car system, and depending on just how elaborate you want to get with diodes or relays to prevent it from back feeding to the car system when not running so it's always charged when the car battery goes dead
