@@doug4371 Japan doesn't care about what the world says about them. But when over 80% of Japanese cars sold overseas get affected, losing billions of dollars, Japanese government will worry. The Japanese people are paying their price (billion dollars in tax revenue).

@ Mr. Doug. You said "you live here in Japan, you obey Japan rule " and "Ghosn committed crime in Japan....".
You and many people living in Japan probably didn't know Ghosn didn't live in Japan and didn't commit crime in Japan. Having a private party in Versailles is not "live in Japan and commit crime in Japan". Staying in many homes around the world that owned by Nissan is not "live in Japan and commit crime in Japan".
Nissan money is not Japan money. Nissan property is not Japan property. Nissan Corporation makes more than 80% money from outside of Japan. Majority of Nissan Corporation is owned by foreigners (more than 60%). Ghosn was invited by Nissan for an 'important' business meeting from oversea and Japanese prosecutors detained him at the airport on that day. So what part of Ghosn is "live in Japan and commit crime in Japan". Many people living in Japan for too long and think Ghosn is "live in Japan and Committ crime in Japan".

Of course he had a home in Japan for work and it had been a detention place for the large part of his time there. What ever unproven guilty Ghosn and Kelly had done involved Hiroto Saikawa and many others.
The audit report identified 70 people in Nissan misused company money.
Only Ghosn and Kelly have been long time jailed and punished before trial or proven guilty in court, that is simply prejudice.

Doug. Sorry for these facts. According to this article in 2017. Ghosn had always been an outsider and foreigner working hard all over the world, getting oversea teams to talk to Japanese teams.
*They call Ghosn Mr 7-11 because he worked from 7am to 11pm.
*Nissan was profitting $7 billion in 2017, when Ghosn gave his CEO job to Mr Hiroto Saikawa.
That is part of Nissan history.

I've spent 27 years in Japan. I ve been once in a courtroom, in front of a Japanese judge, about a speed limit.just for that they can crush you. Ghosn's story is a classic in Japan, among long-time residents.I have met acquaintances, foreigners, who went to jail, for minor mistakes they made, against local laws, and almost no ways to defend themselves, many simply lost everything. They had same experience than Ghosn as he's saying from his arrest to his escape. Some even committed suicide. What I can say is that Ghosn has been the target of high ranked people, not only Japanese, because he started to make serious jealous competitors, even colleagues. And in Japan, there's a way to push someone out of the game; by letting him committing himself a "mistake" ...it's very common in Japan, like in some martial arts.., and then they can use the argument to blame you finally as responsable. Ghosn wasn't prepared about that. They were waiting for him at the corner. Unfortunately, they couldn't prove his guilt fairly. Now, Ghosn can work on his case without "handcuffs", and not anymore in a clown juridical so-called system.

@Mat King Ill try to do it short. First, where you able to understand his complete 1rst explanation since..his arrest, and to 150+ worldwide "free" medias.and he just got back.
He 's not stupid enough to say how he escaped, sounds logic. His house in TK was monitored but videos were checked only once a month by authorities. You can escape Japan when you have money. Human trafficking also exists there. He was allowed to carry FFrench passport maybe because they thought he would never be able to use it anymore at least for some unknown period of time, behind their bars.About Versailles, did you notice that Renault was a sponsor for Versailles' refurbishing program, worth 1M euros, so whatever the parties they had there, it wasn't taxpayers money. Also, who really cares about who was attending. His onions.Surely, what do you expect when you reboot from bankruptcy Nissan, run successfully 3 auto makers, 400,000+ colleagues, you won't host VIP's at the bistrot next door and serve them McDonald's. You know the mistake "they" have done., is that they did arrest the very last gaijin-guy on this planet they wanted to arrest, and keep silenced about the backstage. Is it criminal to escape a system ( and then show-up on TVs) that do not give you any "chance" for a fair self defence, don't respect UN protocols and detention conditions, Human Rights, without facts/proof of wrongdoing. His mother? I don't know nor care. The real origin of this is political.the rest is diversion.imo. don't get anyhow involved with police in Japan, you'll be wrong, period.

Carlos Ghosn had 14 months in prison and house arrest in Japan to think about what he would say to defend himself when he finally had the chance. He used the time well because his press conference was a tour de force of truth.
The former Nissan CEO, who saved the company from bankruptcy, fled Japan in a daring escape rather than risk a trial after months of ill-treatment. He scorched the former Nissan colleagues who turned against him, the prosecutors who interrogated him for weeks without counsel present, the Japanese legal system that assumes defendants are guilty, and the world press that often parroted what he called their “character assassination” against him.
Ghosn-san took reporters, and a global video audience, step by step through the accusations against him as well as what he described as the motives of those who turned on him. His account that Nissan executives and Japanese officials worked together against him seems more than plausible and the closest that we will get to the truth as the Japanese media propaganda machine has started in full drive again- it is rare for Japan to ever to say sorry and admit it was wrong! We experience this all the time in our society in multiple situations and far bigger issues.
Ghosn-san highlighted that executives in Japan chafed at the growing power of France and French executives in the global car alliance that Ghosn-san had put together with Renault, Mitsubishi and Nissan. So they concluded that the only way to end the partnership, or at least assert greater control, was to get rid of him. Their weapon became Japanese corporate governance law, which as everyone knows is defined by its opacity. The details of Ghosn-san's defense will be tested against the specific evidence as it emerges. One of his most compelling points concerned Nissan’s admission of guilt in Japan and they have been fined (!), after he was fired and arrested, to corporate disclosure offenses here. Yet in Tennessee in the U.S., where Nissan has been sued on similar allegations, the company claims innocence.
Ghosn-san also made the common-sense point that none of this should have risen to the level of a crime. It should have been settled in the boardroom.
This is a HUGE point and what the majority of academics and industry people here think but the Japanese media which is controlled by the prosecutors in Tokyo continually drown out this information.
Reading through media reports here (in Japan) we cannot but feel highly ashamed of what is being spread by false assertions from our government officials- Japanese justice has taken a huge global hit by their actions and it will probably never recover- in these times of other areas of Asia where citizens have woken up to manipulative governments using the media to press their agendas that becomes more difficult!
For Japan in it's Olympic Year where it is vital to show the global community that we are are the peace loving country that is kind and receptive to foreigners a large dark cloud has come over us. Our media here easily criticizes bigger countries in the the region but is so two faced as it needs to take a long hard look at itself and be honest and NOT so superficial to our overseas friends.
So considering Ghosn-san's mistreatment, and the unlikely prospect that he’d receive a fair trial, how many media moralists would have done the same. Ghosn-san's case is highly credible. Barring new and persuasive evidence from Nissan or prosecutors which I highly doubt exists, Ghosn-san should stand acquitted in the court of public opinion.

Man, I’ve lived in Japan and worked there as well. Trust me, he’s telling the truth. Japan is not what media says it’s. Of course, its food is second to none, streets are clean, quality of every product is great, most if not all of its people are kind but its justice system is rigged. When a Japanese billionaire does something wrong lawfully, he gets away easily( coz he’s Japanese) but when a foreigner gets an executive role in a company, it’s when they get jealous, search for anything potential to take you down and get replaced by a Japanese. They’re racist culture ( I’m not saying all). I understand there’s racism in every country but why don’t you let a person who is smart and has shown outstanding results run your (Japanese) company ? Instead they wanna screw you up once you’re in a higher level than other Japanese in a Japanese company. If you wanna go solely for career opportunities, Japan is no go. If you love living in Japan, then it’s awesome, go for it. Btw, I speak perfect Japanese and I got JLPT N1 but after careful thought I decided to explore my opportunities in western countries.

It was a bravura performance and truly well executed and VERY VERY fair- he has finally spoken and what he shared was true! Most people commenting are totally ignorant about the situation in Japan and cannot imagine what he has suffered and what was done to him and it would be far better if they did their homework! Watching the whole of the conference you can see his brilliance and intelligence and obviously his love for his wife Carol who has been amazing! The Japanese media are puppets of governmental justice system (they work hand in hand) and are not to be trusted at all- simply they follow the sheep mentality-Top academic minds here have for along time berated the coverage of the Japanese media and their lack of fairness! What everyone fails to remember is what has gone on before this saga happened where Japanese executives were simply given a short slap on the wrists and walked away without any charges which were far greater sins than what Ghosn has been accused off - Check Kobe Steele- Takata- Olympus etc etc there are many and now we have the IR scandal where bribed politicians(Japanese off course) are walking free- He was never going to get a fair opportunity and his decision was 100% correct- Petty revenge is what the Tokyo Prosecutors are about now- targeting Ghost's wife with a warrant and pressuring his kids is very very low and yes the Japanese public can see through this! Despite what the Japanese media try to sell to us there are enough smart people who know it is rubbish and we can see the fake news that has been spread by them at the request of the Tokyo Prosecutors office - this was always about Saikawa and internal politics of Nissan - what has happened to Ghosn and his family is so shockingly embarrassing to us We are angry about this as it is so obvious to see the terrible injustice has occurred So although I would have liked Ghosn to defend himself in Japan I understand fully his correct reasons of what he did...we will never forget the amazing work he did for Nissan and the group that is his legacy...and finally if you are a foreign executive think twice about taking a position here because as this episode has seen you will NEVER be treated fairly if anything goes wrong!

I'm an Australian, been living in Japan for 20 years, was arrested in 2009 for buying a kitchen knife for home ... I bought the knife at Joyful Honda, was walking home, the knife was in my backpack, police drove pass, turned around and came back, asked for my gaikokujin card, as I reached in my bag to obtain my card to show them, they saw the knife, which by the way was still in it's box and sealed .... Well they tried to arrest me for violation of the Sword & Firearms act ... I told them I just bought it, showed them the receipt, and I was on my way home. ... But NOPE .. They wanted to arrest me, long story short 8 police in hospital, I was arrested for carrying a knife and assaulting police ... Spent 41 days in a police cell before the Chiba Prosecutor's Office finally had the police release me ... I never sign a confession that they wanted, and I never backed down ... In the end the Chiba Prosecutor's Office said my actions were justified and the police were in the wrong, I also got a letter from the NPA saying sorry .... Police kept saying to me to sign a confession I was armed in public ... and if I did they release me right away .... They had a snowballs chance in hell of me signing anything ... and because I never signed the confession I ended up spending 41 days in a police cell ... and it put a lot of pressure on my Japanese wife, who the police kept trying to force her to get me to sign the confession.

Must admit the Japanese judicial system has many problems, but Ghosn is just appealing to emotion without mentioning any of his injustice. Being thankful that he rebuilt Nissan, but it should be noticed that in return for it nearly 10,000 Japanese employees were fired and suicides occurred, while he had been extravagant and embezzled the company's asset for his relatives. This should be mentioned first.
Besides if French Renault sells Nissan shares to China, as is well know France cooperates with China's BRI, Nissan's technology will flow to China. This tech can be converted to military use. The US is wary of this, but unrelated Europe doesn't care what would happen to Asia. Germany also has experienced similar events in the past but now regrets. Japan's Hokkaido has already begun to erode, so it is a very serious matter and Nissan's technology must be protected desperately.

Yet accounting scandals at Olympus and Toshiba - along with safety-data fudging at Kobe Steel, Mitsubishi Materials, airbag manufacturer Takata and even KYB, maker of earthquake shock absorbers for buildings - show that Japan Inc. still answers to no one. All these scandals were Japanese led....no surprises as they were not punished in the relentless way Ghosn has been - sadly this says a lot about Japan these days!

He never correct his surname Go-s-n if he has pride to be Lebanese.
When the situation suits him, he uses Lebanese, he uses the Netherlands (where he never resides) to evade French tax.
He is certainly not on the average Lebanese people's side but on the rich.
If you want to cheer for the rich and corrupt, go for Carlos Ghosn.

Japanese judicial system is broken but, Ghosn has still good chance to win in the trial.
This case is from a plea bargain. The prosecutor’s office just supported the idea of coup architects. There is a possibility that the court regard charges against him as false accusation.
Even without him, Trial will start for Kelly and Nissan as a legal entity. Nissan will entirely admits the charges and Kelly must defend himself alone. Hope that Kelly will also be able to return to his home world in the near future.

To those saying he's innocent, why did he flee Japan in the first case? He should of gone through the trial if actually innocent and can prove a point that he's innocent. He's a con artist and had other people he used left in Japan and got them arrested so he can run away.

Basibally he does not have any faith in anybody.
He says he loves Japan, referring to Pearl Habor.
