Wealth is not divided equally and a situation in which a car like that is on the road here is unimaginable, but it's beautiful to see the love people have for their vehicle and the freedom that comes with driving, to keep it going for so long

    Oh, I can smell the city from here. I've driven in Turkey where a constant stream of old Tofash cars and overcrowded minibusses can make the the narrow City streets smell like chimney. The pollution is so bad your car becomes completely covered in dirt like a rally car in under a day of driving.
    I am privileged to have a functioning air recirculation button in my car so i don't have to lose any brain cells to toxic fumes but watching the guy ace those traffic jams with the windows down gives me a headache from here. Damn.
    Amazing skill and dedication either way. Making a living in Africa is hard enough on its own and the mechanics are doing a valuable service for those who need to keep moving on the road despite it all.

    I love Peugeots. The 504 is extremely reliable. The 505 not so much. I'm glad he's a mechanic, else no way you keep that going on African roads.

    • @Matt-ne6de
      @Matt-ne6de Před rokem +1

      the 505 is just a 504 with a styling and safety update. Almost all the mechanical parts including suspension, engine drivetrain and brakes are the same. The 5 speed box is from the 504 v6. The 505 gets optional fuel injection but it is the same famously reliable L and K systems used in BMW, Merc and Volvo. In euro and later in north american cars the aluminum block Renault engines were introduced with the 505 but those are as reliable as the 504 XN pushrod motors (which crack heads if overheated so arnt that good) long as the timing belt replaced on time. Cracking cylinder heads on the very rare Chrysler/Talbot Turbo n9t engines are the only possible claim I can imagine to the 505 being worse than the 504.

    • @rebeltvr6046
      @rebeltvr6046 Před rokem +3

      @@Matt-ne6de Well living in Africa, 504s could handle the horrible roads there and so were really popular. 505s were breaking down over the same roads so they fell out of favor. Something changed. Maybe the quality of the parts used in the subframe, suspension, the steel used was maybe thinner, something was definitely off about the 505.

    Unfortunately, in many countries, cars that are younger and in better condition than this old Peugeot are being scrapped.
    My country's environmental authorities subsidize scrapping diesel cars below Euro 3. How many resources are wasted to build a new car!
    'Buying a reliable and solid used car and using it for a long time.'
    African drivers are, on the one hand, people who know how to protect the environment.

    • @epiccarguy892
      @epiccarguy892 Před rokem +6

      true i live in Germany Euro 6 is the minimum for vehicles vehicles like Euro 5 are sent off the country and we focus so much on green motvation we are in Wastern Europe while in Eastern Europe you will see many old Wastern european cars on the road but Western Europe is Wastern Europe
      and yes it's true the production footprint for a new car accelerates the problem + production for their electronics
      keeping old cars will reduce the impact of production of new cars

    • @Snufkin812
      @Snufkin812 Před rokem +5

      @@epiccarguy892 nice to meet you! I heard that Western European countries, including Germany, are active in eco-friendly policies.
      Meanwhile, that's not welcome news for classic car enthusiasts like me. :(
      I'm from South Korea and here it's getting difficult to own a diesel car produced before 2005.
      Governments install surveillance cameras on roads in big cities to give tickets to cars without emission reduction systems.
      Still small cities or rural areas are free from these problems.
      Of course, environmental protection is an important issue in the 21st century, but cars are private property and I don't think it's appropriate for the authorities to interfere.
      The stupid fact is that while rich countries are protecting the environment, other poor countries are still polluting it.
      Brazil is destroying jungles, India is suffering from garbage disposal problems, and Africa is importing a lot of old cars from wealthy countries.

      @@Snufkin812 also e- waste recycling appliance and battery etc do you know where they end up ? In Poor Countries in huge dumps
      search up e - waste landfill you will be shocked
      all of this was meant to be "RECYCLED"
      People Believe that Germany is a Zero Waste country but in Reality all the "RECYCLEABLES" actually end up either incinerated along with Non Recycleable Garbage either shipped in SE Asia also the rest of EU does this also USA Canada Australia NZ and Singapore Japan and South Korea also send their recycleable plastic abroad in countries of SE Asia Like Vietnam Thailand Phillipines Indonesia Cambodia Laos China India
      also Mexico and the rest of Latin America is Western World's Dumping Ground also Africa Turkey Pakistan and More
      all of the Millions of Recycleable Electronics every year they end up to the Dump thanks to the Planned Obsolescence
      companies like Apple Samsung etc each year they present their new model that they make in Child Sweatshops in China and Vietnam now the new model is released in masses the old one is now getting obsolete
      imagine buying the Iphone 14 next year they will release the Iphone 15 Iphone 14 will be obsolete and they won't be making parts for the 14 if something breaks your whole phone goes useless in attempt to buy the new one to bring them gain that's a practice of Planned Obsolescence
      which has huge environmental impact
      same with cars the EV and modern cars have an expiration date they won't last long like the old beasts in a few years this cars produced today they will be piled up in a huge landfill by fooling the people that they will be "recycled"
      also Clothes
      most clothes are made by child labor in countries in Asia Like Bangladesh Pakistan Indonesia etc
      and many people buy clothes they never gonna wear and they end up being thrown away clothes recycling is an other scam they actually end up in huge landfills in Africa
      same with furniture many people throw their old furniture to buy the new one even if it's in perfect condition this happens because of the companies contributing to Planned Obsolescence

      @Snufkin812 Před rokem +1

      @@epiccarguy892 You know the waste problem all too well! Since the 20th century, humans have polluted the Earth too much.
      Obviously, in the future, the population and waste of the earth will increase, and it is impossible to imagine the amount of garbage that everyone on earth throws away every day!
      Germany was believed to be the most perfect country in Europe, but I was surprised that it exported waste.
      Then it means that the 'world's best recycling country' that the media is talking about is a lie.
      Sadly, the shipping of recyclables to Southeast Asia was controversial in my country as well, a few years ago. It may be that it continues even now, forgotten by people.
      I live in an apartment in the city where I recycle plastic/cardboard boxes and paper products/styrofoam/glass bottles/metal cans.
      Trucks come and pick them up every week, and I don't think they're going to be 100% recycled.
      Many people throw away the label without removing it, or it is dirty because the inside is not empty. I also heard that recycling centers do not recycle small pieces.
      Meanwhile, my grandmother lives in the countryside and burns most of her garbage in steel barrels.
      (She always burns after sunset to avoid being watched by the authorities.)
      Environmental authorities will tell you that burning trash is bad, but burning it may be better than dumping it. It's quick and easy instead of generating a lot of toxic fumes.
      The waste problem is clearly a responsibility of both companies and consumers.
      Cars are no exception to this, and the problem of scrapping electric cars will probably become serious in the near future.
      For example, a Ford Model T produced in the 1920s will work fine in 2023, but a Tesla built in 2020 will work after 2050?
      A car that runs on a battery and computer system doesn't last as long as an internal combustion engine.
