YAY, we are so happy and very relieved that your plants and the greenhouse all made it through the freezing cold spell, but oh no with the ditch but thank goodness you were safe, thats fantastic your plants are all safe and sound, but so sorry to hear you lost one of your barrel cacti and some plants due to the Rat, but well done on getting rid of the hungry Rat, we had a very bad storm on Sunday and we watched out the window as we seen our big heavy black garbage bin fly right over the polytunnel roof narrowly missing hitting it and thankfully it landed at the back of our gate, it was a miracle that the bin just skimmed over the roof as the bin would have gone right through the poly cover and flattened our plants especially at such a high speed of 70 miles an hour, our next door neighbour had his big shed flattened, we have another Storm this afternoon coming but its not meant to be as bad as Sundays, thanks so much for sharing the wonderful update with us Clyde, and not long now till Spring is here YAY, and Hans and I are sending you and beautiful Deb and all the pets and plants lots of LOVE, PEACE, PLANTS and PLANT POWER to Morris park for a fantastic Tuesday XXXX
Holy wind storm guys!!!!! That sounds like the spring storms here !!! Almost hitting the poly tunnel would have scared the daylights outta me!!! Your poly tunnel flashing before you!!! Scary!!! Yes, I've had no sign of the rat. But it did destroy about 8 plants and damaged many others. It even went so far as to bite off half the spines, lay them in the pot and then make a test bite!! Matucana must not taste good . It left it alone after that.just a bite mark. I've seen them test lophophora this way also. Funny how it bit the spines off and layer them in the pot Yes, we are warming now, it got to 46°F today!!! Supposed to warm a bit more!! YIPPEE!! Just lots of rain now. The park is now a muddy mess!! But we need this to fill up our water table as we rely on ground water for everything!! Batten down the hatches guys!!! I hope you two don't get any damage!! Maybe weight down the tunnel base some more. And maybe anchor you bin down to a post driven into the ground!! Mother nature gets rather rude sometimes!! For some reason she has something for killing greenhouses. As we now have battled for mine 3 years in a row now!! I win this round again. But I'm always at the ready to fend her off. I fear the wind storms too. They usually come with tornadoes, dangerous lightning as the weather service says and or hail. That's coming in spring!! We have already had close calls with them. Yes,we made it again!!! Didn't let mother nature take my greenhouse!!! Yes, the ice was a bit of a problem. Tried to drive to work and ended up in a ditch outside our driveway!! At least it was close. And ashes from the wood stove help get my tires some grip to get out ok. Yes, we are supposed to be up in the 50s °F next week!! About 40° F today!!! Come on spring!!! Yes, the old golden barrel I think it's head got too big for that little neck on the bottom. Starting showing signs of stress this summer. And the neck rotted. It was about 38 years old. This all depends on how cool they are going to get in the winter. I keep mine dry all winter, till late February when temperatures start to warm a bit. Now if you live in a warmer climate, then they can take a bit of water during the winter. When I lived in Southern California, I watered a bit during winter. But here the greenhouse can drop into the 40s°F , which is a bit cool. Any water or wet soil at this time can be fatal .
