    Argh those awful Rat's, they really can do a lot of damage, I used to have mice in the house when I lived in the south of Ireland about 10 years ago, and I bought a silent high frequency ultrasound anti rat and mouse plug in especially for getting rid of rats and mice that you plug into a wall socket, it would give off a frequency noise that only rats and mice can hear, the sound is meant to drive mice and rats away as they can't stand the noise, it seemed to do the trick as we never seen any mice in the house after that, I think I got mine online from Amazon, Scale is a never ending battle on my opuntias and cereus spiralis, thanks so much for sharing your war against these beastie Rats Clyde, and Hans and I are sending you and beautiful Deb and all the pets and plants all lots of love and happiness and PEACE, LOVE, PLANTS and NO RATS to Morris Park for a wonderful new week XXXX

      Yes Lyn, it's been quite a battle here!! We have tried the ultrasonic in the house, but with no success. In the house for mice, peppermint oil seems to have worked the best. But the rats are a tougher species of rodent. Not much seems to deter them in a greenhouse full of food! Mothballs worked under our house for a rat. But this one, and the one in the fall didn't care about the Mothballs or the Irish spring soap!! As long as it had a stocked pantry ( greenhouse) full of food, it was staying!!! These guys are tough!!! And huge!! This is why the aggressive measures. It really scares me that they could burn us out !! But for now this one is gone. That's life in the country!! There will always be another!! Just like all our other beasties we have to deal with. There will always be mealies, scales & spidermites and here...... RATS!! Thanks for watching Lyn!! And your wonderful comment and idea!!! From Morris Park in the Ozarks, to across the emerald isle, have a wonderful week ahead!!! Peace, Love, Plants!!!✌️💖🌵🌷🌴🌸🌿🌻🍀🌾💐🌱🌳🌹🪴😃👍🐀

Not scared of them... it's what they can do!!! Including threat of life and well being!! Quite dangerous with what they can do!!! Thanks for watching!!! I'm glad you can say "Leuchtenbergia principis" as I can't 😁 Wise advice. We had mice in the Cactus house till they ate the Kalanchoes down to the ground. It killed them 😲 Hope you have a lovely evening 🙂🙂🌵🌵

      Yeah, these marauders can be so very destructive!!! It's sickening when you come out to empty pots !! Great plants from great people like Lyn & Hans and Daz & Edith. Gone!! Not to mention all the damage!! The fire potential is so great!! Also besides the nests, the rats have a " Loo " they go to and the feces are left in a big pile behind and under things!! Yeah they really scare me not for the fright effect, but what they could do damage wise!!! This is a never ending battle, just like spidermites!!! Thanks for watching Ziggy!!! From Morris Park in the Ozarks, have a wonderful day!!!! Peace, Love, Plants!!!✌️💖🌵🌷🌴🌸🌿🌻🍀🌾💐🌱🌳🌹🪴😃👍

      @@morrisparkintheozarks6831 The rats used to make nests out of used tea bags 🙄 Have you tried peanut butter mixed with plaster of paris? It sets in their bowels and they can't get immune to it 😲 You too 😊😊🌵🌵

    Be careful with the poisons. Birds of prey can eat the dead or dying rat & be killed by the poison as well. :(

    Good video on the topic and control. I have many cacti, succulents and fruits in the yard and greenhouse so control is key for distructive rats and mice. I used all your suggestions except rifle, including hot pepper, baking powder in food, and the five gallon trap door trap didn't work for me. My best eradication methods are the tomcat type black plastic snap traps in one gallon pots and small live traps in greenhouse and yard. My best bait so far is bird feed with sunflower seeds and wonder what baits work best for you? I give live traps a five gallon dunk bath. More of an evening activity for me, cover traps and sticky traps in day so you dont kill friendly animals. Just like the common insect and disease pests, inspect your plants regularly and be vigilant on animal pests is a necessary part of what we have to do. Sorry for long reply.

    • @morrisparkintheozarks6831
      @morrisparkintheozarks6831  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Great reply James!!! Yes I tried the bucket trap also. The rat was too big and just hung on to the trap door , licked off the bait!! As bait I have used , peanut butter, chocolate, gummies, which stick to the spike on the rat trap pedal and being sticky, they have to pull on it!! And the tomcat bar bait. Living in the country, this happens at least once a year. Some are easily caught. Some can be tough depending on how smart the individual is. And yes, always be vigilant!!!Thanks for watching, and your great comment!!! From Morris Park in the Ozarks, have a wonderful day!!! Peace, Love, Plants!!!!✌️💖🌵🌷🌴🌸🌿🌻🍀🌾💐🌱🌳🌹🪴😃👍🐀

    Hopefully you get this rat problem under control, Clyde. That would seriously annoy me having rodents chewing up my plants. It's annoying enough when spider mites are doing it! Thank you for sharing with us my friend. Have a lovely day and week from Edith & myself to you and Deb 🌵☀️🌼🌺🌸🏜

      Thanks Daz!! They really give my plants a rough way to go!! Unfortunately , they are kinda like the rest of the beasties. More will show up sooner or later. Just have to deal with them as they come. Living in the country, we see a lot of this. The cats seem to be the best at catching them. They got 4 last summer. I've got two so far. What really scares me is them chewing through wires!!! And burning the greenhouse down or our home. I've had our lawn tractor in the repair shop three times for chewed wires!! We now put a bag of mothballs under the hood to keep them from nesting in it during the winter. Hopefully spring will be here soon and I can let the cats at them and if necessary a good ol black rat snake under the shop portion of the greenhouse building and help patrol for these rats!!! Thanks for watching Daz!!! And your wonderful comment!!! From Morris Park in the Ozarks, to the UK 🇬🇧 and Singapore 🇸🇬 have a wonderful day!!! Peace, Love, Plants!!!✌️💖🌵🌷🌴🌸🌿🌻🍀🌾💐🌱🌳🌹🪴😃👍🐀

    Omg! This is war against those rats. 😝 I used to have a desert rat in my backyard but thankfully, my big Opuntia ficus indica is the only one it liked. And I had plenty for it. Might have over-stuffed itself to death. 😂 My husband set up those rat traps but all it trapped were birds. 🙁 Good luck on your battle, Clyde.

      Yes, I believe these are invasive " Norway rats" and boy do they love the plants in the greenhouse!!! This is a constant battle, much like other beasties, you get rid of them, and later they come back. I expect more when I open the greenhouse this spring. Hopefully by then the rat patrol can take care of most of them!!! Thanks for watching Ana!!! And your wonderful comment!!! There’s a bucket lid mousetrap that fits on a five gallon bucket, but I don’t think it would work on your giant Ozark rats. Might do if you sprayed it with cooking oil spray, possibly?
    Sorry for your aggravations and good luck!

    What about CATS?

    • @morrisparkintheozarks6831
      @morrisparkintheozarks6831  Před 5 měsíci +1

      As I discussed in the video, I can't leave a cat in the greenhouse closed in because of the damage to both plants and cat while plowing through the cactus and Euphorbias. We have our rat patrol outside, Big O, Twiggy calico peach paws, and jinx. They do a fine job outside the greenhouse. 4 rats this last spring, summer season. They keep the park cleaned up. So to avoid plants damaged and a vet visit, I keep the cats out during the winter when the greenhouse is closed up. Thanks for watching and your great comment!!!
