The crazy thing about Casey is he does everything different than any other car youtuber I seen he does all the work himself in basically a three car garage doesn't outsource anything has a very cliff notes style of filming but he's doing awesome look at the sick variety of cars he has you rock casey

Budjet wise, if you can pull it off for about five grand, its going to take a miracle. I see you as a guy who pulls the rabbit out of the hat tho. I can’t wait to see this swap. I have a 2014 Chevy Caprice cop car with a 6.0. It’s basically an Australian import from Holden just for U.S. Municipal cop cars. A G8 with crappy interior. I still have my dod delete and cam to do. I’m cutting mine up too. For a roached 1959 El Camino body on it. Wheel base is within a couple inches.
A caprice is not a "G8 with a crappy interior", a G8 is a Commodore and the caprice is a Statesman, the statesman is actually a long wheelbase "cadillac" luxury version of the commodore.
Also, Holden already has an El Camino "truck" version that existed before, during and after the El Camino, it's called a Holden ute, and the ute body is largely stiffened to allow it to be a ute.....
Just drivetrain swap the LS2/6l80e into the Elco X frame and be done with it, using a monocoque chassis without the body and supplementing it with a body that needed a full frame chassis is a very dumb idea, especially if it's a utility (truck body style)

@@jack002tuber It's displacement on demand. They have 4 longer lifters that can collapse under hydraulic pressure from solenoids in the valley plate to deactivate valves opening in 4 cylinders when cruising then reactivate to a V8 under load, supposedly a fuel saving measure.
The problem is the system is prone to failure, the solenoids fail as do the the lifters themselves with junk oil or internal wear that forms a ridge or slide and they stay collapsed or can compress, the lifter then bounces around where you'll hear a "tick" that if left will wipe out your cam and the metal goes through your engine making it a good candidate to make a coffee table out of..
You can "unstick" a collapsed lifter by removing the valley plate and putting a shaped metal rod down the solenoids oil gallery and hitting it with a hammer, then once released checking the lifter isn't collapsing by trying to compress it with the pushrod, if that works then you'll want to remove the oil pressure sender from the valley plate to block the oil feed to the solenoids, then deactivate DOD/AFM in the software using something like HP tuners.
The proper way is to take the heads off, swap cam, use LS7 lifters and a non DOD valley plate then deactivate DOD/AFM in the software, if you upgrade the cam at this point you also need the associated valvetrain and a full tune.

Love the Z platform, Built and manufactured in Australia then shipped to the US to be LHD converted for consumer use in the the states! Also known as the VE Holden Commodore here and was the 3rd last body style Holden released before shutting down in the late 2010's.. after this one was a VF commodore with an updated front and rear end but same body and chassis, then the shitbox ZB commonwhore was the last and failed successfully and killed holden for good unfortunately, so no more sexy aussie sedans and utes 👎🏾 gonna be a sick build Casey 🤙🏾👌🏾🇦🇺
It wasn't converted to LHD in the states, it was built direct from the Elizabeth factory in LHD. They were also building the LHD VEs in the early days of the car for the middle east (UAE etc).
Love seeing you use an aussie car for a body swap unfortunately that model is the second last made we call them ve commodores last one was a vf basically the same shape such a shame we don't build them any more

I love how relatable you keep things. When you said you were reusing those ugly 'headers', I cringed. I was yelling at the screen: "Just upgrade them while they're out... like every...other... content creator...." But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that's exactly what I would have to do as well (reuse parts that is). 😅 I love that this brings things back down to a realistic level and reminds people that you don't need to go broke on upgrades to have a bitchin' project! ❤

I Had a g8. Hard to find a better overall driving car. It’s not a factory 12 second car but can be with bolt ons. Certainly will run 12’s with cam, headers, cold air and a tune…. still plenty fast in stock form.… handles and drives great. I loved the interior on mine. It was basically a way cooler faster 5 series bmw knock off when it came out.
I was very impressed when i rode in my buddy’s years ago. I had no idea how quick they were
I put a tune in my bone stock ‘09… didn’t make it much faster but tweaking the trans portion of the tune made a huge difference. After the tune, it would break loose on 1-2 up shift and of course monster Smokey burnouts. .. with my kids in their car seats lol
Holden picked the right 5 Series to benchmark it off, the E39.

Good to see you are using an Australian built car. It's a Holden commodore.
FYI. Try welding a washer to it first and weld the nut to the washer a older man taught me this trick 20 years ago and to this day I still use it. It adds way more surface area to weld to. Hope this helps.

Don't go too cheap because you have a good chassis and motor and the body is super awesome looking. So it's something that you can make extremely nice and have good handling so don't be afraid to buy some extra things you need to keep it nice by setting ur budget too low...that's my opinion

My dream has been to do something like this with a C5/6/7 Corvette drivetrain running gear and a 63 Pontiac Tempest. It would require a 10" wheelbase stretch, however, instead of trying to lengthen the torque tube, I considered moving the front suspension forward to make the car even more front mid engine and making a dog house under the dash(where there is a lot of space) to fit the engine. I would imagine that beginning with a C5Z, C6Z/427 Vert or other widebody C6 would be really awesome. You'd get all the performance of a modern car and I would keave it looking as stock as possible on top like something Icon would build as a derelict, the only thing to tip anyone off would be the wheels and tires and the center exit exhaust if I kept it. The car also has plenty of space in the trunk for the transaxle unit. As far as I know nobody has done it yet, the closest thing I have even seen was a Corvair truck with a C5 or C6 trans axle without a torque tube and the LS engine bolted directly to it without a torque tube in the bed.
Bummer about the timing chain and the tensioner but hey it happens when you least expected it. I would say you could probably do it with a $4500 build by the time you are done. Thanks for the video Casey.

That G8 will make a great chassis swap, lots of power & shit right out of the box! I think you should aim for a 5K build, I think that's pretty realistic.

Casey is a madman, which is essentially a requirement for the kind of work he does. Working alone i imagine any sane person would be easily overwhelmed by the number of projects he has in the works. Not this guy. This project has serious potential, but I'm most excited to see that abomination of a CRX take its first rip.

Sow, I believe that would have afm lifter and you could have checked valve lash when you were taking it apart to check for lifterfailure. The timing chain tensioner is a common problem on then. I have done lots of oil pan gaskets and found that surprise 😅 but to be honest, I haven't seen one jump time yet. Also, if it is an afm system, it will be cylinders 1,4,6,7 for the lifter that actually disabled to make it a 6 or 4 banger

The easiest way to get those keepers out quickly is with an over sized socket and a hammer. Put the socket on top of the spring and smack it with the hammer. The keepers will fly out but the socket will retain them so you don't lose them

If v10s fords had them flex pipes at end of manifolds, there would be alot less broken exhaust bolts.
