In this video we shall be diagnosing and fixing a Ford Transit Tourneo Custom which has an airbag light on and after a quick code scan a permanent B1405 code was found to be stored. Using a simple but proven diagnostic method of live data and visual inspection, the route cause was soon identified.
Hope you enjoy the video.

As usual, great diagnostic
Excellent find there 👍 the comment at the end there ,I found very funny replacing the loom is a shit job to do ,as I’ve done a couple before 😀
Great video, look forward to seeing your next one 👍
Love it mate . That’s what changed my mind. The comment “that’s what we get paid for” . Your absolutely right
Great job Steve in finding the fault , on first glance we all thought , screen has been cut out , but in reading the comments it's a chafing issue , definitely a form to be filled out there for the factory to make sure it is taken care of on production, a hire vehicle on warranty it is then, I bet the punter is relieved not to be paying , and it's another nice job for you to do , when the parts eventually arrive , good job were good at jigsaws in our lovely job , it's a shame we just dont get paid enough , either self employed or working at a dealers 😉👍
As usual, experience and logic win the day. I also like the reassessments of your plans, shows a dynamic approach reacting to new information. Thank you
Great video. Experienced logical diag as always. Fully agree with not repairing for the reasons you gave. particularly as it’s still under warranty. Love your videos mate, keep ‘em coming.👍
Great video as usual! No one would replace the complete harness because of that where I live😅
Trust me.... I didn't want to and it was a 16hr job in total. But it was warranty and repairs not allowed..... Now, if I hadn't had been as honest, then I'd have repaired it
SUBSTANTIAL
Thanks 👍
Good Morning 🙏 🌄

Apsolutly spot on as always
Good find 👍🏻 in the beginning it would’ve been quicker going to the airbag module To do a continuity test. And as the module is mounted to the floor and underneath the carpet would be more likely To have a problem.
In hindsight you still would’ve had to do what you did anyway 👍🏻
I've managed to get the harness replaced. I've not done a video of it due the time scale, but I have taken photo's. I may do a little montage . Thanks for watching
Cheers Steve bang on
Well done Steve
Awesome work Steve, thanks for sharing.
Wouldn’t fancy doing that loom to be honest.
It would probably have a few more rattles afterwards if I had to do it 😂
Watching that what a great find mate and on the other hand what a pain will be to replace harness hope it a warranty job otherwise job well in four figures there
Great job take care
yes, its warranty
Another great video.
Good video
If this isn't fixed under warranty then if I was the customer I'd be thanking you for finding it, ask you to put it all back apart from the a pillar trim and I'll get my soldering iron out at home. I expect it's your companies policy to replace the loom, but I don't see an issue fixing a broken wire as all it does is pass electrons through it and the computer will tell you if your repair is poor and you'd have to be pretty crap at soldering if that was the case. If the fault was in the airbag or control module itself then that's a different issue and those should be replaced.
Regardless, its a good video showing how much time and effort goes into the diag and potential repair. Also how simple a lot of these issues are.
With airbag systems using very tight resistance tolerances its not recommended to repair a broken wire
Hi, thanks for the comment. As mentioned by the other viewers, its not the company policy, its the manufacturers policy and not just Ford, it would be all manufacturers, unless its a repair that they authorise as part of a recall (which I've never seen). The risks may well be worth taking, but its a safety system and I for one don't want to end up facing a judge for any unauthorised repairs. Thanks for the comment and for your support.
Fair enough. Out of interest did the customer have the loom replaced?
@@robthomas7232 the loom is still on order, they often take at least 3 months to arrive!! Ive a loom on order for another job i didn't video thats been on order since July
@@SYDiagnostics wow is this just the supply chain issues currently? That's a lot of time for a van to be off the road.
Oh no, that has sunk me. My light came on so, I checked this video, it looks a nightmare. Expensive and difficult for me to do.
Great video, great arent they Ford, not only is the information given incorrect but the fault is hard to find and an absolute ball ache to fix … oh the joys
Very true!
"mad frentch"ahh you kill me
English humer
Good work. Do you think it might have had a replacement windscreen? Causing the issue?
Hope it’s not a common fault!
screen hasn't been replaced, i think this is a manufacturing issue that's took a while to manifest
I had my money on replacement winscreen too. I've done numerous repairs after the winsdcreen bandit has been and gone.
@Simon Manley Auto no signs its been replaced , the screen is Ford and no "splodged" goo everywhere
😀😀 could have been a good replacement process though, but can't prove it
Please tell me your not on bonus to do that job and can just tick along during the day. Least you have access to ford technical data to remove the dash etc unlike us lot having to work it out. Good job bob
Unfortunately, yes I'm on bonus (lower target) to me, i'd sooner diagnose it correctly than guess just to satisfy figures
it’s cool you’ll get 1.2hrs for it😂
I don't see a problem with repairing it. Customers will be walking away if every broken wire is a new wiring harness. That's stupid. Manufacturer just want to make money
SRS (airbags) are a safety feature, the manufacturer cannot guarantee any repairs susceptible to human error, I/you may well be capable of repairing it, but the next guy may well not be. So it will require a new harness and as its still under manufacturers warranty, then they will foot the bill not the customer. Thanks for watching
@@SYDiagnostics Yeah that's great. But wire is a wire. It's nothing special. Luckily is under warranty
@@ErikTheVikingMechanic I have to abide by the rules of those who pay the bill. I'd never show or advocate repairing airbag wiring. Have I done it before?....... Can't say 😳
made by a mad french man, only if you work on cars would you fully understand that comment, very funny....
