This is your brain on math.
hahaha
Not even once. Odd always.
+I'm Very Angry It's Not Butter Maths* ;)
***** Mathamphetamines?
Yes, Exactly.
You put a magnet inside a Klein Bottle?
I think you mean you put a magnet outside a Klein Bottle. ;-)
+Alex24757 nice
+Diggnuts They're also inside one another. There is no innermost and no outermost klein bottle.
+FreeHomeBrew Woah! My head exploded. Fortunately the mess is contained in a klein bottle.
+TheChipmunk2008 Inside every klein bottle!
+Alex24757 I can't get enough of this guy. Actually bought a Klein bottle off him and made the mistake of filling it with wine. Really hard to clean, even with a magnet. Just noticed that the Mathologer channel also just posted a video on cutting Klein bottles into crazy topological musical instruments. Not sure who is more eccentric.
I feel like he's so excited out his, he's broken hundreds of his 1000 Klein bottles by jumping around.
I'm inKLIENed to find this funny.
Ich habe ein KLEIN Problem mit das. Hehe, puns in German
I'm inKLEINed to spot your misspelt "KLEIN"
+Ishwar Karthik KLEINally!
du kannst anscheinend nur ein KLEINes bisschen deutsch
I don't know why but this guy makes me oddly happy
same.
Because he shows passion at what he does.
Exactly, it's just pure joy from maths!
He makes me unhappy. Mostly because I cant relate to his levels of unironic joy and enthusiasm for life. However, I believe it is an act for the purpose of making educational youtube videos more engaging, so every cloud.
@@JG-nx3jg Maybe you're depressed.
A real life mad scientist (in the good sense).
You just gotta appreciate that man's enthusiasm
+d3rrial I agree so much with you on this xD
I honestly idolise his creativity and enthusiasm. It does not matter that he is a little nutty because he is doing what he loves.
He's so fixated on one thing.
Richard Jones His goal of working with Klein bottles may be the same, but how many people do you know, who would hook up an Arduino to an eletric drill, to make sure a diamond saw cuts evenly through glass?
+Richard “Supreme Leader” Jones He's not though, he just gets so massively excited about everything. It's contagious and really cute, I love him.
The first thing we need is a diamond saw.
Okay! Here's a diamond saw!!!
I mean everyone has one of those lying around right? .-.
+Shenpo You never know what you'll find in the backyard of a dedicated physical mathematician.
Actually a lot of people do. They're not super expensive or anything, they're just blades tipped with bits of diamond scrap, super useful for a lot of things.
Yeah, wet saws with diamond blades aren't really uncommon at all.
Diamonds are actually really cheap, it's only the 4 Cs that made diamonds you see in a jewelry shop so expensive.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 LMAO😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
"By slicing an Acme Klein Bottle, they generate one left handed Möbius loop and a matching right-handed one. Unlike matter/antimatter couplets, these can be placed next to each other without fear of total annihilation." - From Cliff's Klein Bottle website. I love this guy.
Oh my gosh that is the best.
He has a website for this? What is it?
@@IndigoGollum google acme klein bottles
??
I wanted to make a joke about klein bottles, but it was too one-sided.
Kaas Kaas yep jokes about Klein bottles are not edgy enough
it wasnt edgy enough
Your jokes are very 1-dimensional
Its okay, just tell us a joke :)
**Topological cringe intensifies**
If we ever manage to travel into greater dimensions the first thing humanity needs to do is make this guy an actulal klein bottle.
Y e s .
Make him into a klein bottle
@@moosemoosington1441 Make a klein bottle into him.
false.
Watching cliff has put the biggest smile on my face. Best depression cure I've found in ages :)
I know right!
yeah
Same!
I’m a proud owner of one of this man’s klein bottles. I ordered one in 2012. This is still to this one one of my favorite items in my possession. The order confirmation I received was one of the best I ever received. Just made my day, with pictures of the klein bottle being packaged and carefully wrapped into bubblewrap. I have kept everything, the papers he sent with Acme literature, invoice, and topological propaganda (using his own words) and the little white package with a smiley glass written on it. I love my klein bottle !
Does it came with his DNA all over it?
??
This is how teachers should be :) Being excited to teach & making the students to be excited about the subject too :)
Rupam Shyamal most probably are at the start till the enthusiasm is beaten out of them
I have a cs professor who gets pretty excited sometimes. It normally requires a creative, unexpected, eloquent solution in code. Nothing like this guy though lol
I wish he was my math professor :D
You guys are so lucky
Unfortunately even great teachers or fun people like this guy can't make all parts of math (or any subject) interesting. When you're taking a 14 week 4 credit course or whatever, there's probably only gonna be a few classes worth of stuff that can be made as interesting as the math videos people watch for fun on CZcams. There's a whole lot of less interesting background info that's a lot more important to learn if you're actually going to use that level of math in some way
if this guy was in The Martian he wouldn't have needed saving. build a whole city out of string and rocks and clone himself some babes.
+ImmaterialDigression And made a time machine spaceship.
He's amazing!
+ImmaterialDigression nah, he would just make a bunch of klein bottles and forget to tend his potatoes
Definitely a film I would have gone and seen. Maybe he could break bad and become the villain.
guess his evil name would be Khaos Klein and he would trap his victims in four dimensional klein bottles from which they can never escape
+Azivegu Or maybe slice the potatoes into Klein Bottles!
someone should make a bong out of a Klein bottle
+Scratch I think he already did.
There is no hole in a Klein bottle. It's one continuous surface..
sure you can, inhale through the bottom, modify it so it suits the mouth a bit more, pour water through it, drill a hole in the side, put the holder for the weed, and you got yourself an upside down klein bottle bong. The bend will have to be made as more of a pit so it holds the water without it acting like a straw I assume
Hydrantdude how does this crazy dude make a klein bottle hat without a hole to put his head it
+Scratch That's what you get if you cut off the loop instead of taking a cross-section.
I like this look the hat gives him! Like some kind of... hippie druid wizard professor!
He sells rare items
A dank mathamagician you say? I agree
@@bramcorvus2198 meta-mathe-magic

only somebody who has thousand of glass klein bottles under their house would think to cut one in half in real life. :D
false.
i wonder how he'd freak out if he met klein xD
Dr.Kuhmilch Great Scott!
Dr.Kuhmilch ya hahahaha
Ok, ok, if we learn to time travel, we get him and take him to meet Klein
It's hard not to love this guy.
i want to see this guy making a rube goldberg machine
...he would make it entirely out of Klein bottles.
Have you seen his saw setup? His Rube Goldberg machine would be the size of a city block
It would probably be the never ending kind.
??
how long until there's a youtube channel where cliff cuts random things in half?
Rachel Evans it's cause it exists already
its called howtobasic
Its called mrgear
roowco1
hello fellow whovian
Mikaela Forte hi :)
He's really passionate about Klein bottles and building stuff. Adam Savage would love this man.
+llgla Agreed
+llgla Two of my favorite public speakers and fabricators in the world. If someone got them together for a day and just filmed what they did, I would absolutely watch it.
+evilcam Probably they would weld a gigantic Klein bottle. And then make it explode using C4 shaped in moebius strips.
I don't think Adam would have access to C4 any more. Unless he knows someone who knows someone who is willing to do it for him . That's only my theory. Anything could happen.
I can pretty much guarantee Adam knows how to make C4. If not C4 than a whole host of other explosives.
Cliff is like Doc from Back to the Future
I really do envy this guy. he's found Somthing that makes him truely happy.
2:04 - Pure joy. First sample of pure joy in a grown-up discovered.
The subtitles there is just “!!!!”
@@dezcubing5844 Hahaha that's great
I love this guy's craziness! Its creepy but so amusing!
He reminds me of Doc Brown
+Richard Returns Great Scott!
+Lucky Abat Not creepy, but it is very charming to see someone with such lvoe and passion for mathematics
me too.
+Lucky Abat
He's not creepy.
You're just "normal".
Young at heart :)
+snaleks He's like a kid who just got to play with his favorite toys for a living his whole life.
+snaleks Suggest looking up Cliff Stoll's TED talk, it's amazing, the topic is nothing in particular except math
Am i the only one who was almost screaming: don't cut off your fingers on that diamond saw, doc!
dont worry he has the machine that reattaches them somewhere
I hope to become as awesome and excited about something as this guy when i get old
:)
Ew. It's you 🤢🤮
Shows what enthusiasm can do for presentation.
This guy is a joy to watch.
What a character!! Reminds me of Doc Emmett Brown from BTTF!!
That was the idea, i suppose...
This guys is amazing. More videos with him.
plz
This man is so happy. I giggled when he was so excited about the difference between the two mobius loops.
This man looks so excited about everything he explains, I love it.
This guy's enthusiasm is on point. Awesome Video numberphile ..
OMG I knew I recognized his voice. Then I thought he sounds like the guy from "The KGB the computer and me" and I googled it and IT'S HIM!
Cliff builds these little machines that, to most of us, are so spectacular and ingenious...but he does it just as little steps along the way in his various Klein Bottle endeavors. His TRUE passion...
Real-life Emmett Brown.
Dr. Emmett L. Brown
That's who he reminds me of!
+aMondia I came here to say the same thing!
+aMondia GREAT SCOTT!
+aMondia Gyro Gearloose
There's something about an eccentric guy like Cliff using a band saw that scares me.
"Here, let me unzip this Klein bottle beanie."
-Universe explodes
This guy's excitement is contagious. Even when I'm depressed, he still makes me smile inside.
this guy is off his rocker for those damn loops.
+cr0nosphere He's not off his rocker. He just converted his rocker into a musical instrument Dr. Seuss would be proud of, which also functions as a snowmobile.
^ And it would be the shape of a Klein Bottle
+woodfur00 dont get me wrong I love this guy. He is more Dr. Seuss than Dr. Seuss.
There is the theory of the Moebius, a twist in the fabric of space where time becomes a loop. Where time becomes a loop. Where time becomes a loop.

2:04 makes me so happy!
6:18 I love how he already had two halves of a Klein bottle all along and just wanted to show us the fancy diamond saw in his garden. xD
This guy is amazing, and not just for his love for the Klein Bottles, but also for his skill in tackling problems and inventions to show things.
This guy is soooooooo happy 😄😃😆😀😄😄
He makes me happy 😃
Micha Grill he makes me happy in my pants.
I love how enthusiastic about everything he does.
I love it, youre so crazy and excited about maths ;)
...About Klein bottles, indeed.
he's on crystal math
1r5Drooodle you are a genius

I've had teachers that made learning mathematics fun and exciting, and some that were pretty boring. On my experienced scale of 1-10, Cliff Stoll is at an 11. He makes me want to go back to school to learn more. But not just from any teacher: just him. I only hope I can inspire excitement of mathematics in my students the way Cliff does in these videos.
We better get an episode about lenses. I can't get enough of Professor Stoll
This guys lives like i do, crazy lab inside house, and a wilderness outside of the house, i love all the plants!
I filled a Klein Bottle… Physicists & Ghost Geometrists alike are stunned!
he's not crazy, he's not broken, or smoking anything, he's happy. and it's lovely.
"and i'd love to talk about it some other time"
why you do this to us klein bottle man
His eccentricity tells me maths is not the only thing he's using those Klein Bottles for.
crazy scientist stereotype found
This dude's enthusiasm is Amazing
More videos please with this person :D
I love how excited he is about everything :)
Cliff Stoll FTW!!
i love just how the klein bottle is so nicely made and he's cutting apart with a contraption that's almost literally held together by string. it's actually amazing.
It would be so fun to have him as a teacher
My goodness, his enthusiasm is just pouring out of him!
Dude reminds me of a doctors sues character
When you cut a Klein bottle in half
You can easily do the math
Two Mobious loops
No longer in a group
It is easily define
One continuous line
I know the bars don't flow right.
"The first thing you need is a diamond saw. Okay!"
Because of course he has a diamond saw in his backyard, why wouldn't he?
If anyone would, it's Cliff
I wish I was half as excited about anything in my life as Cliff Stoll is about klein bottles. You can tell he's passionate about his work.
I love how excited he is!
How can _anyone_ dislike this guy?
They probably dislike the constant focus hunting, improper white balance and shakey cam. It takes away from how awesome this guy is.
Such a great teacher, he's so excited and driven. All teachers should be like Cliff.
With his enthusiasm, Cliff could teach anyone anything.
this man is a hero
Still under the impression this guy is completely insane
+GrenYT all mathematicians and engineers and also architect go crazy 100% of the time at some point if they live long enough
+marlonyo so they go crazy sometimes all the time
Damn. You are making me reconsider my major now man...
atleast I'm already insane
+GrenYT Nah, sanity is overrated.
Oh I just love this guy so much. He looks to have pure enthusiasm and curiosity, and always can't wait to share whatever he got.
omg i love this guy.... he is so energetic
pGpants cocaine is a helluva drug
I love this guy! I had a math teacher, he looked the same and acted the same! That's sooo crazy!
This guy is a gift to humanity
Some people call that dude crazy, but his passion for cool shaped bottles just radiates positive energy to him and everyone watching!
I bet if you were pissed off, and you watched this guy, I bet you aren't pissed off anymore!
What do you say we rename Klein Bottles to Stoll Bottles!
I can only hope to one day become as enthusiastic about something so esoteric as this man. A true legend.
I LOVE this guy! It makes my day everytime I see him talk about something.
I want what this guy is smoking
+Tyler Pittman Not "what"- "In what"- in a Klein Bottle
+kmyc89 He smokes klein bottles... With klein bottles.
Sulthan14 *Everyday*
+Tyler Pittman He's smoking science.
He smokes Math.
This guy makes you feel happy because that wonderful fascination and appreciation for how reality is that he has, that its contagious because it has a natural cause that we all can perceive. This fascination and appreciation makes you HAPPY because makes you love the reality you,re in
That's awesome! And it's fantastic that this man is so excited by these things he knows that it's like a kindergartner playing some game for the first time. It seems that most old people are tired of life. I don't blame them. Life can get you down. But not this guy.
He has a thousand Klein bottles under his house.
He is... the most interested man in the world.
"I don't always wear hats, but when I do, I prefer non-orientable ones."
"Stay four-dimensional, my friends."
Seriously, Cliff is just so damn enthusiastic, it amuses me every time.
You just can't help but love this guy
I love this guy. If only everyone had passion projects that made them so excited and happy.
the way he gets so excited about it is amazing.
i love this dude, he's so energetic and excited for math related things(especially Klein Bottles)
4:23
Do you expect me to talk??
No, Mr. Klein Bottle, I expect you to break..!
I love how passionate this guy gets! He's just so excited about wierd shapes!
This man has truly put his life to something beautiful. The passion, the excitement, the happiness... Everyone should find what they love and put their entire life to it.
This guy is awesome! He'd be like that awesome uncle or grandpa that everyone loves.
so enthusiastic love it!!!
The enthusiasm! The energy! The passion! This guy is awesome :D
Something about this Jolly old man is so heartwarming
Ack, I want to watch him cut a camera in half but I can't click the video link in android, and the link isn't in the description! Anyone help me out with the link?
+ninjafruitchilled there is no link - that is just a little extra snippet I popped on the end as a bonus!
+Numberphile Oh, so sad! Make a video with the rest of it :).
+Numberphile I would like to see another video with him about lenses, btw where can I buy the hat?
+Numberphile Shame! It could be included in the video on the mathematics of lenses that you're already planning, RIGHT? :D
I'd really like to see that lens video.
This man for president 2016
This man's enthusiasm is contagious. I legit would have probably LOVED math right from the get-go if he was the one teaching it.
I love the pure joy that mobius loops give this guy
"To show you the power of upper dimensions, I cut this Klein Bottle in half!"
Old guy needs supervision with diamond saw or else he'll make 5 Möbius strips out of his fingers.
I love how excited he gets about his job. Truly following his passions.
His gesture at 2:03 is amazing
