  • Since last year, Haiti’s government has been asking the international community for help to restore peace and security. This week, the United Nations Security Council approved sending an international police force led by Kenya to Haiti. Kenya signed on to send 1,000 police officers, with Washington pledging $100 million and logistical support. The Caribbean country has been gripped by spiraling gang violence as well as poverty and food insecurity. And if assistance does succeed in pushing back the gangs, there’s still a need to address Haiti’s lack of governance and political power vacuum. The last UN mission there lasted from 2004-2017 and faced accusations of rights abuses, sexual violence, and starting a cholera outbreak that killed more than 9,000 people; so, can this foreign intervention avoid repeating those mistakes?

Kenya 🇰🇪? This must be a joke. Kenya itself needs international help.....we live in a comedy world. Kenya sends its incompetent police force to another country to fight gangs; this is the end of 2023, the best comedy line. It is going to be mass surrender of the Kenyan police force. Poor Kenyan

What makes you think Kenya is incompetent? Anyways the question is for more than decades Haiti has been in the situation. Why haven't they solved the issues. Kenya is offering to help because we don't believe in doing nothing. Something needs to happen and when everyone is silent it won't help. Kenya is going to do it's best.

Jamaica became independent in 1962, and it is doing better than Haiti, independent in 1791

Jamaica wasn't cut off from global trade, forced to pay back it's former colonial master for a century and a half, & wasn't occupied & robbed of it's resources & money & resources for 20 years & 200 years after independence

If Jamaica had any natural resources to offer it would have been worse than Hayti. But since it has nothing to steal and fight for, Jamaica has been itching to colonize and rape Hayti. I hope the blood deals and money are worth it.

No it won't help. They have already received very large sums of money and nothing changed

Can you prove that Haytians received the money? It rebounded right back to where it came from.

I really really hope this isn’t just another cash grab for Kenya and route for the more developed nations to wash their hands of the situation by throwing some money at it and nothing else, and then say they tried. I am Dominican and we cannot sustain Haiti’s problems on our back. It’s not just Haitians that need the world to help Haiti, the whole island is feeling the effects.

Well, has it ever? The answer is a tragic no. What is the definition of doing something over and over again, expecting a different result? Oh yes- It is called insanity.
